I started this project back in my first year of highschool as a short story, which was originally going to be based on the character Renfield from Dracula that I had started in 8th grade, but it was quickly scrapped. (A lot of Alice’s character came from that idea) I knew that I wanted to do a story based on a Victorian novel or Halloween story, because the project I had before the Dracula one was Sleepy Hollow which unfortunately didn’t go anywhere. But then I found Jekyll and hyde, for some reason we never read it in school, but I fell in love with the story and all its complexity’s. It was a story people were familiar with enough and yet had so much potential to add to it. It was perfect. It took me from my second semester of my freshman year all the way to graduation to get it completed, with 3 or 4 different drafts. And in the beginning of writing the first book, I was already writing the sequel, which was a blessing and a curse. Out of anything Ive ever had an idea for, this is the one that I could say I’m proud I stuck with it, it has the potential to be something great, and I really hope others will feel the same.

I find it hilarious Hyde calls Jekyll “small man” when in cannon Hyde is shorter (somehow I still see Hyde saying this out of spite)

And when Jekyll talks about how Hyde is no better the dr Frankenstein! In my opinion J&H is better, but I’m bias.. obviously.)

Hastie Lanyon was born into comfort and expectation, raised in a family that prized reputation, education, and visibility within upper-class society. From an early age, he learned how to move easily through drawing rooms and dinner parties, his charm polished yet genuine. Conversation came naturally to him; laughter, admiration, and attention were not merely enjoyed but expected. He carried himself with the easy confidence of someone who had never been forced to question his place in the world. Academically gifted and socially ambitious, Lanyon pursued medicine not solely out of scientific curiosity, but because it allowed him to remain both respected and visible. The profession offered status, influence, and a stage upon which he could shine. He never pretended to disdain the privileges afforded to him—indeed, he embraced them openly. While he valued science, he valued people just as much: spirited debate, close companionship, and the pleasure of being admired. To Lanyon, life was meant to be engaged with fully and unapologetically.

When Henry first met Lanyon, the two quickly became friends. Lanyon, indulgent and amused by Henry’s curiosity, introduced him to wine and smoking—habits that soon landed Henry in considerable trouble. Yet despite this, Henry’s parents were fond of Lanyon, viewing him as a respectable influence and a model of success. It was largely through Lanyon’s presence and encouragement that Henry was steered toward medicine, eventually studying and working alongside him.

October 17th, 1863

Born in France to an English family, Gabriel John Utterson spent his early years among vineyards and estates in Bordeaux. Educated in England, he developed habits of quiet diligence, careful judgment, and a reserved manner that made him seem older than his years. He observed more than he spoke, listened more than he acted, and formed opinions slowly—but once formed, they rarely wavered.

Utterson pursued law out of principle rather than passion, valuing structure, precedent, and discretion. His meticulous, dependable nature made him a trusted counselor, indifferent to social excess and more comfortable with order than excitement.

Among the few who understood him was his cousin Richard Enfield, whose sharper wit complemented Utterson's steadiness. In grammar school, he also met Hastie Lanyon, whose warmth and sociability balanced Utterson's restraint. Their friendship, built on respect and complementary strengths, united caution with approachability in the ideal Victorian pairing of judgment and charm.

Mr Irving Poole-

Poole was born on February 27th, 1846, in Glasgow, Scotland, into a family bound by service. His father, a respected butler, served the Jekyll household faithfully for decades, and from an early age Poole was trained in discipline, discretion, and loyalty. Service was not merely a profession to him, it was inheritance and identity.

As a boy, Poole entered the Jekyll household as an apprentice, learning the exacting standards of a gentleman’s home. Years later, he helped raise Henry Jekyll from birth (1875), even helping his family move from Scotland to London. When Henry finally got his own place, he insisted Poole come live with him, because some bonds are too strong to let go.

Sure, Poole fusses about Henry eating and sleeping (someone's gotta keep him alive ), but there's more to him than that:

Behind that quiet diligence is a heart that loves fiercely, though he rarely gets the recognition he deserves.

August 5th 1864

Born to Reginald and Emmeline Lumsley in Sussex England. Set for an arranged marriage in homes to stifle her caouse, to markis Caldwell. Upon meeting, she bit the boy, and her parents saw no other choice.

Curious to a fault, young Henry collected odd little treasures, questioned strangers without shame, and devoured books, with Treasure Island forever holding a special place on his shelf.

After his grandfather’s death, Henry’s family moved to London, a city that overwhelmed and inspired him in equal measure. There, his brilliance sharpened. Through relentless study and quiet ambition, he became a respected young doctor, one fascinated not just by what science was, but what it might become.

Now living in a townhouse near Leicester Square, Henry stands at the edge of independence, possibility, and consequence. Beside him is Poole, his constant, still reminding him to eat, to sleep, and to remain human as his ideas continue to grow.

June 12th 1884 ~ In June's jubilant golden dawn, when sunbeams frolicked and pirouetted upon the emerald earth and across the sky. The air was alive with the sugary whispers of summer's sweetness distilled in every breath. The world unfolded like a delicate pastry, filled with fluttering petals and leaves. The heady aroma of freshly baked waffles wafted through the air, mingling with the giggly promise of summer's endless shine. Summer's warmth unwrapped like a rainbow-colored blanket, snuggling all in its cozy embrace. The sky with hues of azure, and the air was alive with the whimsical stirrings of summer's magic.
