I Am Computer by Docubyte
‘I am computer’ celebrates the visual character of desktop computing machines from a colourless period in industrial design.
From word processors and video terminals, to the very first desktop personal computers, these compact machines heralded a beige age, a period of microcomputing from the the 1970s and early 80s when design standards had conformed to realise a palette of neutral coloured machines throughout offices and later the home.

One from the archives…
“I’m from Basra. In the seventies we were the economic capital of Iraq. It was beautiful once. The only city with two rivers. We had one million people but ten million palm trees. In those days everyone was optimistic. Our oil reserves were better than the Saudis. We assumed the oil would be invested, and that our lives would keep getting better. But our leaders failed us. It was war after war. Without all the fighting, things could have really been great. But the palm trees are gone now. There’s no potable water. We have a shortage of electricity. Healthcare is very poor, and cancer is everywhere because the Americans used radioactive bombs. Our whole land is contaminated. The food that comes from the soil is poison. But please visit, you’ll be welcome. The people are friendly. You’ll be met with hospitality. We understand that governments are the warmongers. You’re victims just like us.” (Cairo, Egypt)
Illustration from a Japanese anatomy book. Before the 18th century, Japanese anatomical knowledge had been based on Chinese religious beliefs; it wasn’t until 1754 that the first autopsy was performed.

Friendly internet reminder
It’s okay to say “I don’t have enough information to form an opinion on this subject”. It is okay to say “I have been presented with new information and I decided to change my opinion on the subject”
We have a whole big internet to look up information. We have all kinds of reputable, free scholarly studies (Google Scholar is a GREAT resource as well as ResearchGate) as well as website that shows the multiple sides of all kinds of arguments (ethical issues, science issues, law issues, among many other things).
Don’t be afraid to ask for help from the experts. Don’t be afraid to ask for information from people who have been studying the field for a long period of time.
This is so fu**ing relevant.
