Background
Daisy was a lovechild, itâs something she takes great pride in. She thinks itâs beautiful that her parents were once so carefree and in love, and she doesnât consider herself an accident at all, just like her parents donât. Though raised primarily by her father, she still always had a close relationship with her mother. Her fatherâs interests had always just lied in more lucrative fields, in particular, successful investments, but her mother ticked off âstarving artistâ as her occupation. Though her parents split when she was too young to even remember them actually being together, they were amiable enough when they had to be, and she would frequently spend weekends at her motherâs loft flat when her father went away for business conventions. There were times, of course, when she would wish more than anything that her parents were together and both in the same house and both always there for her, but sheâd long ago accepted the reality of her position in life and knew they both did the best they could for her.
Though she grew up in the city, Daisy was kept relatively sheltered, both because of her own actions and those of her parents. Sheâd always been suspicious about the kind of âbusinessâ her grandparents and aunts and uncles seemed to be involved in, and that suspicion, but also curiosity, was only enhanced by how little her parents tried to interact with them. It was only as she grew older that she started to realize what some of her family might be involved in, and she didnât try so hard to try to interact with them. Instead, she filled those gaps in her life with friends, always able to find a friend or make a friend in any room. In high school, she started and led a number of clubs, including the newspaper and the science club and book club. Her father tried to insist that she should take a year to go abroad, all on his dime, before she went to university, but she didnât want to do that until after sheâd matured and learned more in college.
The idea of college has always been romanticized by Daisy. She always loved the idea of decorating her own dorm room, never realizing just how small they were. The âfree timeâ that came with college classes being so spread out was easily filled by having to study until her eyes couldnât stay open anymore. She jumped into joining every club and activity she could, but she slowly had to back out until she was only left writing for the universityâs newspaper and working as a TA for Introduction to Biology. Sheâs just finishing up her second year and looking forward to spending the summer in the city with all her friends, and meeting even more people.Â
