Honestly when I truly think about it, most of my love for byler really came from fan theories and analyses. If you take the current canon Mike and look back at post S2 then itâs really just bleak.

Will literally got tortured into coming out to an entire group of people because he was so scared of vecna using his sexuality against him and weâre supposed to feel gratified ??? Weâre supposed to feel seen and understood by this?? You can tell two straight men wrote this shitâŚ
just canât stop thinking about how volume 2 went down.
Iâm honestly losing all hope for byler especially with the recent interviews with the Duffers talking about how having your crush not like you back is important to understand.
But I am just so frustrated with how it all went down. Why spend so much time setting up intimate moments between the two and building up Willâs love for Mike? Why open season 5 with Will being hopeful and giddy just for him to turn around and ârealizeâ that Mike is his Tammy?
I have seen non-bylers already trashing on bylers because it was âobviousâ Mike didnât like Will back, but you canât deny the fact Will and Mike have been continuously given so much more attention and detail than every other platonic duo.
Why have them argue last season about the fact that Mike isnât reaching out to Will as much and that Mike is being a jerk?
Why have Mike be the one to continuously be linked with Will?
Why build up Willâs love for Mike for YEARS just for him to quickly give up after finally having hope?
Why not allow Will to move on during the 18 months after he already had to use his feelings to uplift Mikeâs relationship?
It just doesnât make sense to me. If they were really meant to be nothing from the start, they could have easily replaced Byler moments with any of their other friends so that it was clear everyone was pretty special.
It feels cruel to have set up all of this, even without looking at fansâ theories and analysis, just to have Willâs story end in self-acceptance and rejection. If it wasnât meant to be, that shouldâve been clearly stated or addressed LONG TIME AGO instead of dragging it out until the final episodes.
It just feels like everything was done to tease their queer fanbase and when they realized it was becoming a huge thing, they decided to go âhere, damn.â
I just donât see how byler could come back from this honestly. Theyâve spent no time trying to develop their relationship this season and they have barely even interacted. Not even in a âplatonicâ way. I donât see any hope for the finale, and even if they did do some last minute twist, I will never be happy with how they played out.
All the couples except for lumax, rovickie, and jopper seem to be bones this season. And itâs just ridiculous that theyâve waited until now to start shutting and tearing all these couples down.

Slight spoilers ahead.
This volume was honestly such a huge disappointment for me. Byler and the individual characters were treated so poorly.
no grand exploration of Willâs powers nor of his feelings for Mike. Everything was just so bleak.
Mike was reduced back into being a npc instead of being a leader. Will now has a huge advantage with his powers, yet he barely gets to face off with Vecna.
Not only is Mike completely unaffected by the fact his family was/is in danger, he also canât show any type of concern for Will??? đđđ S1 Mike and S2 Mike were all over that boy for the littlest things yet now he just stands in the background each time. Just ridiculous.
I am also extremely frustrated with the way the writers couldnât even give Will an intimate moment with his closest loved ones for his coming out scene. The fact he only felt pressured to do it because he didnât want Vecna to use it against him is so disappointing to see. This is not what a queer character deserves.
It is also such a huge let down that there hasnât been as much focus on Will vs Vecna as I thought thereâd be. We learn that Will is powerful, yet it feels like theyâre still holding him back. Vecna acknowledges him for a second, and then moves on. I honestly donât care for the new children. I want to see more about how Will is connected to Henry, and I wanted to finally see the victim of the story gain an upper hand and fight back.
Overall. Serious byler doubt and extreme disappointment. I just canât see how any of this could possibly be fixed in the finale. Even if byler does somehow pull through, I am so sad to see how their relationship was handled.
"gaten saidâ" "noah saidâ" remember when noah said will isn't gay. and then half a season later said will's sexuality is up for interpretation. and then after the s4 finale finally said "yeah ofc he's gay but I wasn't allowed to tell you that yet"
