I've read recently that their are issues with feeding dogs a grain free food unless specified by a vet. Are you aware of if the same is true for cats? We've been feeding ours grain free for a couple years and I don't want to hurt them long term. They've had vet visits with no known problems, but I'd like to keep it that way.
There wasn’t as much information regarding cats, but considering their known issues with taurine insufficiency, I’m not a fan. Grain free is almost 100% a marketing gimmick. Grains are not evil. They are not the devil in food form. The vast majority of animals handle them just fine. My own walking-allergy-in-canine-form is on the royal canin pea and rabbit formula, but that one at least is from a company that does lifetime feed trials unlike all those little companies that are the ones with associated heart issues, so I know that Alyssum is not in danger from her food. And if it came in a pea and normal grain form I’d totally be willing to feed that. She’s not allergic to grains. She’s allergic to chicken and beef. My own cats are on Hill’s prescription diets again because they actually do lifetime feeding trials to be sure that their foods are actually giving animals what they need.
So I would definitely discuss this and your concerns with your vet, and be aware that it *could* potentially, maybe, cause an issue down the line.
Marley made it out okay! Thank you for your help!!!
