He didn't have his sight anymore. He had purged himself of his righteous eyes. The defect still plagued his other senses. Scent, sound, maybe even taste. He could burn his nose, gouge out his eyes. Anything to limit the effect the glitch had on him. He was so tired of being alone.
So he forced himself along on this exploration with Takumi. He tried to keep his spirits up. To pretend the other wasn't merely tolerating him. He could still hold his own, appear like there was nothing scary about walking in total darkness.
They were exploring the ruins, looking for something. Eito felt useless without his eyes in this moment. He couldn't help Takumi dig around in the ruins looking for a specific item. All he could do was stand there and listen.
And that's why he heard it. Footsteps. Not of a person, but of an invader. One of the big ones. Takumi was too focused on the search. Eito tried to pinpoint exactly how far away it was. But before he could even get the words out, he realized it wasn't walking.
It was running. Straight to Takumi. Eito couldn't see, but he could hear it perfectly. Running, what direction is was coming from. He moved quickly to intercept it before it attacked Takumi. But his timing was a little off.
It dug its claws deep into his stomach. That's when Takumi seemed to realize what happened. A whimper fell out of his lips. He tried to swing his scythe, but his arms felt too heavy. He didn't even realize he had dropped it until he heard it hit the ground.
And next thing he knew, it lifted him. Claws were buried so deep that went it flung him away, it tore three huge gashes in his body. The pain was unbearable. He hit the wall of the old building, wood collapsed on top of him. He didn't even scream.
The sounds of a struggle. Maybe his name. Eito was on the edge of passing out, holding on by a thread. For a moment, he slips into deeper darkness. The sudden sound of something above him woke up. The shelving that had covered him. Takumi's awful voice reached him. Oh... Good. He was safe.
"T-Takumi-kun...? Sorry, I..." Eito's pain tolerance was higher than average. Maybe he was made that way so he'd be more useful. It didn't matter. The sheer amount of pain made him keenly aware of the fact that he was dying. "I don't... think I can... walk."
It was a blessing that he couldn't see the damage. The pain alone was maddening. He was shaking, rapidly flashing between hot and cold. He could only imagine how terrible the wounds were.
Right when he was about to tell Takumi to leave him... He says he's going to lift him. He really wasn't worth the risk. After all... He was a traitor. He could almost laugh or cry. All of that just to... Die like this? At least he managed to do one worthwhile thing in his entire short life. Saving Takumi.
"Stop... No." He couldn't see how gross Takumi looked anymore, so the fear was reduced ever so slightly. But he knew he would just slow him down.
"Nnng!" Takumi picked him up and Eito choked. Blood poured out of his mouth. The smaller boy had him on his back. He was dying. If they could get back quickly enough, he might be able to die and be revived. But... That would require Takumi to risk himself and Eito to survive most of the journey.
"Just... Just leave me... I... I'm not..." He's not worth the risk. Takumi had shown himself to be too kind to Eito so many times. It was too much... He... he needed to give up on him.
"I... I won't make it... Just... Take my crytoglobin...." At least then he'd be a part of the person he.... He...
