the grossest repeated procedure I do is also my favorite. we have an old mastiff with an autoimmune disorder which makes his body reject his toe nails. it's super painful for him, so to try and manage it he occasionally comes in to be sedated, and I just go to fucking TOWN on his horrid nails.
imagine. you trim these disgusting curled nails, a huge stream of pus shoots out. the quik is gelatinous. the keratin just crumbles and oozes, the paw pad peels away in chunks, everything is pirulant yellow or black. spend an hour shaving away the layers of crust from the nail beds. everything is bleeding and smells like infection, YOU smell like infection. it's horrifying. it's...AMAZING.
like seriously if I have any medical peeps following me can I get a what what for that specific satisfaction that comes from clearing up a truly disgusting, putrid mess? there's NOTHING like it I'm so fulfilled rn

Puppy stuck in the birth canal for over 6 hours and mom couldn't urinate. Both puppies were stillborn and mom and the other four puppies doing great!

14yr MN chihuahua came in in respiratory distress. Hz of trachea stent sx 3yrs ago. Patient had syncope episode/heart stopped while discussing euthanasia with o and we got him back by inversion, coupage/sucsion of bloody fluid from lungs, and flow-by O2. Patient was humanely euthanized.

Didn't get the zoo job (they filled the position internally), but I started work at a walk-in only practice that will see any animal. The local wildlife sanctuary also brings in animals who need surgery as the surgeon here does it pro bono.
Yesterday, they brought in a 5 to 6 week old eagle who's nest had been knocked down in a storm. His right wing has a compound fracture of the the ulna and radius right about in the middle of both bones. We got radiographs and took the young male into surgery. Dr. K placed a pin in the ulna after reducing an inch overlap and reduced the radius with no need for a pin. We took another radiograph and as you can see it looks beautiful! We then fully wrapped the wing with vetwrap.
He recovered well and will hopefully be able to go back to the wild (same forest where he was found) or into a program where he will be adopted by a set of eagle parents waiting for a baby.
