anyway, the 8 hour workday and the concept of “8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours recreation” is outdated and based on the lives and needs of married straight men who had a wife at home doing all the unpaid domestic labor, childcare, and elderly care. We should all be fighting for a 4 hour workday tbh

Even the American Federation of Labor (AFL), a notoriously conservative craft union, briefly campaigned for the six-hour day around the same time.

I completely agree with everything above but I’d like to add that (if capitalism is not abolished) it would be important that salaries (starting with minimum wage) get adjusted in consequence so people can actually survive on less hours! Or else it’s kind of pointless because people will require to do more hours anyways to maintain a basic living standard.
