Addition to the Glossary of Haunting #6
Assemblage: Jasbir Puar in Terrorist Assemblages states that “intersectionality privileges naming, visuality, epistemology, representation, and meaning, while assemblage underscores feeling, tactility, ontology, affect, and information (215).” Furthermore, “assemblages are crucial conceptual tools that allow us to acknowledge and comprehend power beyond disciplinary regulatory models, where ‘particles, and not parts, recombine, where forces, and not categories, clash’ (215).” I conceptualize assemblages in relation to unpacking spirituality and the expression of spirituality centering the senses alluding to feeling, or embracement of spirituality beyond imperial anchors of religiosity that reflect and reproduce the violence of naming, visuality, epistemology, representation, and meaning. Similarly, assemblages counter the dependency of visuality (the gaze) in determining the social-construction of our realities.
