Health Update
So Iâve had on and off chronic pain in my hips (but especially my right) since I was twelve. Doctors said it was growing pains.Â
It wasnât growing pains.
The pain had started to get worse again roughly around February, but I couldnât figure out any triggers or even if it was my hip since I also get referred pain from my uterus. Then in May it started to get really bad. My GP tested for rheumatoid arthritis, which came back negative. I was finally able to get an appointment with an orthopedist (the same one who treated my tendonitis in high school.)Â
One X-ray and physical exam later, turns out I have hypermobile hips. Also possible impingement with my right hip. (Impingement is where the hip joint and socket donât fit properly together). My current really bad pain is probably caused by a labral tear (a tear to the cartilage in the joint.) Iâm having an MRI tomorrow to check exactly whatâs up with the soft tissue though.
I also have hypermobile knees. So elbows + hips + knees = a six on the Brighton scale. So I definetly have generalized hypermobility. (Iâm willing to bet based on how many times I sprained my ankle in junior high that my ankles are also hypermobile but nobodyâs checked for that.)Â
So tl;dr: my hips are hypermobile and my cartilage is probably torn. I also have generalized hypermobility.Â
Oh also my thyroidâs fucked up but thatâs another post because all the doctors are able to do right now is shrug and say âWell thatâs not normalâ.Â
