i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is âinternationalâ pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isnât our pride, itâs theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that âyou owe your rights to Black trans womenâ is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) MÄori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa donât even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we donât.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. iâm truly sorry that most of you donât see the negative impact your nationâs culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and cultureâs queer history, donât accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
There's straight up no such thing as an apolitical fandom space btw, there are participants in fandom who are privileged enough to not notice the politics, and there are people who, if they speak up about bad experiences in fandom, are Making It Political.
There's a choice being made when saying you want a space where people can escape from political issues and just have fun, which is between the following options:
Address the issues that prevent particularly vulnerable, marginalized people from joining the fun
Silence the ones who bring up the issues, contribute to the barriers that prevent them from participating in the fun, and squeeze them out of the space
There's a wrong choice here. It's made way too often by people who claim to be progressive.
Making the right choice is fully possible and will result in a better space where more people are able to have fun btw. You literally just have to stop babygirling the people who need it the least.
something ive learned from being a fan of weird media is that very commonly when wide swaths of people unanimously claim something is badly written they actually just don't pay attention to the words on their screen. and this happens more than you'd think.
i hate the word âspicyâ so much, oh my god. say erotic, sexy, sexual, horny, sensual, hot, attractive, literally anything else. iâm only fucking with spicy if itâs on a menu

Dead wife montage but it's all slow motion shots of your dead wife throwing grenades and doing backflips and oneshotting the enemy with their long range weapons

The thing about writing trans characters is that it is 100% guaranteed that at least a few trans people are going to be unhappy with whatever you write â not necessarily through any fault of your own, though that is certainly a possibility, but because there is such a dearth of trans representation in general.
Trans people are hungry and weâve mostly been getting by on crumbs. Iâm not saying that there are NO media with trans characters, but you have to admit that there are not a lot of really good things to read/watch/consume that have trans characters (and this is without getting into the question of whether or not those characters or the media theyâre presented in cater to your particular tastes!)
^ This is usually the real problem. Certain genres and mediums have it worse, too! Think about how expensive it is to make movies or TV shows and how many people you have to get approval from and how many people need to be hired and paid to make one that makes it to cable, streaming services, or theaters, as an example.
Books and comics give us more to choose from in part because the barrier to pushing one out into the world is lower, though still not as much as I would like.
Personally, I want to make a TV show, but I canât. So, Iâm making the story into a comic that could maybe get adapted someday. This brings us close to my point:
Two of the protagonists (and many more of the side characters) in my current project are canonically trans. To some people, these two will be refreshing / the representation that they have been waiting to see for AGES. Those people will feel like they are being presented with a feast. To others, it will feel like being handed an empty plate and told to eat up. Those people are not wrong and I will not take it personally. The way that my writing makes them feel will be extremely real and undeniably valid.
What I want fellow writers to understand is that these feelings are not always going to be the fault of the individual author of the individual project that inspired these feelings (with the caveat that it does kind of suck when a new fictional trans person turns out to be exactly like all the other crumbs weâve been forced to call a feast.) The people you make angry by breaking away from the norm could simply be mad because theyâre used to feeling seen rather than because you've done something terrible.
People will be angry if a trans character is conventionally attractive or if they arenât. Theyâll be angry if you make the character pre-everything, non-op, HRT only, 10 years into a âdo everythingâ transition, fat, thin, tall, short, etc. Theyâll be angry if you make the character gay, straight, bi, pan, aro, ace -- I could keep going, but I wonât.
My point is that while you should definitely take the reasoning behind the anger your work may inspire into consideration and you should ABSOLUTELY remain critical of your own work if you want it to be the best it could possibly be...
You also have to be aware that you CANNOT please everyone, especially not with a single trans character in isolation, and you should not work yourself half to death trying to meet some imaginary guidelines of what âgoodâ representation is, because it doesnât exist.
"Good representation" means something different to everyone.
Also, someone already made basically what I was trying to express in this post but better and also in a single image:
If you hate narcissistic people you need to unfollow me. Only people who love and support narcissists are allowed on this blog.
For anyone who's still around and wants to be educated, "narcissism" is a personality disorder, which is a fancy way of saying that it's a way of existing, which has real disadvantages, but which has also been effectively criminalized by the medicarceral system. If you hate narcissists, you are complicit in the ongoing social processes which deny them bodily autonomy, human connection, and basic dignity.
Narcissism/being narcissistic/having NPD is not a moral failing. Treating narcissistic people like shit is.
If you don't have NPD it's actually more important you reblog this. It's been really great seeing a lot of people with NPD react to this really positively, but I need everyone who does not have NPD to enforce this for their own blogs too.

so staff might be terminating random transfems like dozens of times within a day on pride month and they might be literally taking the trans colors out of the progress flag and they might be perfectly happy letting nazis openly doing constant sexual harassment campaigns with the express purpose of trying to kill the target. but at least they brought pjackks blog back! that makes up for it! happy pride month!
why is pjackk back unbanned?
đŹ 1  đ 0  â¤ď¸ 60 ¡ reference post about the "phantom report bug" ¡ this post is not rebloggable because i need to be able to update it and ed
^^^ i spent all night and yesterday compiling information about a "phantom report bug", where people are getting emails from tumblr support about TOS reports they did not file. pjackk was banned off one of these phantom reports, i told tumblr support about it, and now he's unbanned. i think @garaks-padded-bra was also banned erroneously off a phantom report, so hopefully that will get reversed soon as well
PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR PHANTOM REPORT EMAILS. if you spot any, even if theyre old, tell me about them so i can add them to the list (linked above), and report them to tumblr support. POLITELY. tumblr support wants to fix this.
In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly donât get it. I call it the Pascal Method.
Taylor Swift does this
no she doesnât
You clearly don't go here or to queer history and signaling, or both, enough to have this conversation and I'm not going to explain it to you. You could have asked questions, you could have done even a modicum of research. You didn't and you made yourself look ignorant. Goodbye.
Anyways, this pride remember the Egg Prime Directive is bad and more than a little transmisogynist!
Iâmma keep it real, a number of people seem to equate âsuggesting to someone they might be a trans womanâ with âremoving their agency on the matterâ and I think these people need to take a long look at themselves and ask why thatâs their assumption.
I'm really trying hard to be a "It's everyone's first time learning something everyday" kind of guy but also if you don't know shit and you know you're, for whatever reason, a person who doesn't have context about something, why fucking talk. Like why are you talking. If you know you don't know what's being discussed why are you opining about it and getting confused when everyone is like, shut your empty headed mouth for the love of god? Are you ALSO learning for the first time that this is insufferable?? As though half the time these people aren't also insufferable pedants who'd blow a gasket if someone started talking about their loser hobbies wrong
"Here are my thoughts on this topic"
"You are completely off, you have gotten multiple basic facts wrong, you also lack x and y context"
"Well I didn't know that because I don't really involve myself in this topic" THEN SHUT UPPPPPPP OH MY GODDDDDDD
