I wanted to be where nobody I knew could ever come.

I wanted to ask more questions, I wanted answers. Realization struck that I didn’t need to know. I didn’t want to. Knowing why people do the things they do, wouldn’t change the fact that they already did them.

There is no warmth in February sunshine. (But plenty of light.)

Learn to let the little things go. Learn to forgive the small mistakes that others makes. Yes, your best friend snapped at you but maybe she had a bad day. Maybe she’s under a lot of stress and she feels like she’s drowning. Sure, your boyfriend was cold but maybe he’s got a lot on his mind. Maybe he’s trying to figure things out and he’s feeling a little lost. Okay, your sister was rude but maybe she’s just tired. Maybe she didn’t get enough sleep last night because she was tossing and turning, crippled with anxiety. What I’m trying to say is, cut people some slack. We’re allowed to have bad days. Nobody is perfect. Leave people room to mess up every once in a while.

Rule 1: Stop giving yourself to others in gallons and leaving yourself aching, thirsty. Love yourself more. You are worth drowning for.

We find, sometimes—often—to our surprise, the depths at which we were formed by others. There’s little logic to the architecture of our souls; we like to think blood matters, and time, but sometimes a glance or a touch, a half smile on a movie screen, a cover song, a piece of lightning bolt makeup, a Christmas card, an afternoon’s conversation, a book read once in childhood, can be a pillar on which the roof of us depends.
