I’ve used this argument for a long time as a difference between appropriation and appreciation. If you are buying directly from the people of that culture you are supporting them in keeping certain practices and talents alive. They are choosing what they share while making a living from their work. You are supporting them, while enjoying their culture. This is not only okay but it can really help people from these communities.

With appropriation, you are taking money away from the people. While mocking everything they stand for, and giving money to big companies who only care about profit, and have no understanding of the people they are stealing from.

The worst part of Pride each year is riding the subway late at night and seeing the gay guys, mostly the ones riding by themselves, slowly take off their rainbow stickers and beads and what-not in preparation for their walk alone in their neighborhood, doing their best to prevent the off-chance of being jumped. I saw one guy with a flag in his bag turn it upside down so it wouldn’t poke out.

Two years ago in Budapest the organizers didn’t let anyone leave the place until we dropped all the rainbow flags into the trash cans and popped out the balloons, because people were waiting outside the cordons to get and beat us. Sadly the situation was so bad that even without the flags, we couldn’t leave for a good two hours after the event anyway. There were hundreds of people just waiting to be able to get home safely, but we simply couldn’t walk out of the place because of those assholes. In the end, the police made us leave in smaller groups via subway. They closed down the stations closest to ours, so we could avoid running into the people waiting us outside. This was in Budapest, in Europe, 2014. I hate this world we live in.

I know this kid who was leaving Pride, trying so badly to rub off the rainbow paint on his cheek because his dad was abusive and didn’t know he was gay or at pride. I was on the bus with him and he was close to tears, he cheek red, and I had my make up bag and there was a packet of wet wipes, so I went up and sat next to him and helped him rub it off. We’ve been best friends ever since.

Solar Eclipse - August 21st 2017

Of course I can! Let’s dive right into it! (Warning: This will be a long post)

So this moon has a lot of crazy stuff going on. First off, it will be happening on August 21st 2017, and it is a total solar eclipse of the sun and moon both in Leo and black moon.

So what exactly is happening? What makes this one so special? Well my friends this is a total solar eclipse! The moon will completely cover the sun on this day for approximately 2-2.5 minutes. The last total solar eclipse was June 8, 1918… a whopping 99 years ago! These are not a casual occurrence.

Who can see it? Everyone in North America plus parts of South America, Europe, and Africa will see at least a partial solar eclipse! The total eclipse will past from Oregon to South Carolina. Here is a representation of the path of totality, or the Moon’s umbral shadow, according to NASA!

Now that’s pretty cool right? But for us witches and astrology enthusiasts alike, there’s another awesome detail. This eclipse is between a sun and moon both in Leo! Not only that, but we also have Mars in Leo as well, allowing for a great deal of passion to accumulate for this event.

The sun and moon together will create a trine (or create a triangle/be about 120 degrees apart) with Saturn and Uranus. A trine symbolizes three planets supporting one another! With Saturn in Sagittarius promoting balance and growth in a disciplined manner, we seek long term experience and wisdom. Saturn takes its time, allowing us to really soak in this eclipse for the coming months or even years. On the other hand, Uranus is in Aries, encourages revolution and new innovation. Generally, when Uranus transits trine Sun, there is little that can be negative. Now is the prime time to plunge into new territory with courage.

Solar eclipses also cause this really cool thing called the Allais Effect. This may bring along a sense of stillness or uncertainty, and supposedly pendulums will swing strangely. This deals with an interesting gravitational phenomenon! Try to stay in tune with your senses and see if you feel anything interesting.

Eclipses bring about change, intense transformation, and renewal. This is a great time to work with the darker parts of ourselves to allow a brighter self to shine, so one can also do some shadow work, binding/cursing, spirit work and self reflection. Do whatever you must do to leave darkness behind.

Leo Sun and New Moon are a great time for self-empowerment, self-esteem, starting something new, and taking the reins on your own life and gaining control. More about the astrological aspects above.

Black Moons are similar to New Moons as they are great for banishing, cleansing, renewal, cursing, and planting the seed for whatever you want to grow in your life, except this moon will be an enhanced version of that with more focus on our own shadows and negativity as well as binding, banishing, and renewal. Embrace your darkness so that you can unlock strengths.

Overall, I’d say this event will be amazing for some self renewal and major banishment of negativity.
