Guy Field; https://guy-field.com/filter/Design/Parklife-2018
Guy Field was one of the leading Art Directors of the design work for the Parklife festival in 2018. Studio Moross were in charge of overseeing the design of the event with Field working as one of three Art Directors for the extremely popular and well-known festival. Studio Moross have continued to work with the festival until the present day and have become renowned for their style for the festival.
Illustration is a massive, key element within the branding for the Parklife festival with the theme for 2018 being inspired by cinema and 1950’s new world styling. Using illustration as the main design element within their styling gives the festival a cool, modern look and makes it considerably stand out from their competitors. For example: in the promotional video for boardmasters there is a huge focus on the videos and photographs of both their customers and their surroundings however in the promotional videos for Parklife they have an exuberant coolness due to their illustration which leaves the audience feeling excited.
It could be argued that this particular style only suits younger adults that are possibly going to one of their first festivals and that's why ‘being cool’ matters. However, the company including work done by Field within this project, have completely understood their audience here and gone about generating custom the correct way- their videos and posters are hugely popular and work for their audience.
Going forward in my festival creation, I want to work with the idea of illustration and motion graphics to promote my festival however it will be slightly different from the Parklife festival for two reasons. The first being the huge difference in audiences and that my festival has a huge age range in comparison to the type of music that Parklife festival attracts. The second is that I have to keep my promotion in line with the brand and its values as well as other factors associated with Mamma Mia such as the songs or even where my festival is being held.
Jake Matthew; http://www.jakemathew.com/reel
Jake Matthew is a freelance designer and animator who has worked for a number of huge companies. His CV boasts work with: Current TV and the Oprah Winfrey network, MTV Music Video Awards, Aleve Endtags, Redbull and McDonalds- McPlant.
Matthew’s work is full of colour and cool movements which bring a band to life as well as combining illustration, textures and photography into his works. What I like about Matthew’s Reel on his website is that he demonstrates a handful of different ways to promote a brand. My personal favourite and what I believe will suit my brand is the use of colour within his motion graphics alongside the use of text. I have mentioned my focus on the use of colour within my work on the festival as I feel that it is a huge part of the brand values. My work won’t be as technically good as Matthew’s but I plan to use his work to inspire my motion graphics.
Lovebox Festival: Hattie Stewart, Kiwi and Andy Baker

The Lovebox Festival, much like Parklife, has become famous for its creative style and how it uses patterns, illustrations and bold colours to attract a huge audience. As I have previously mentioned within this project, I also want to focus a lot of my attention on my colour palette as I believe that it is crucial for it to be correct as it attracts custom as shown with the Lovebox festival.
The video promotions that lovebox use are also an inspiration to how I would want my motion piece to look. It wouldn’t be to as high a standard but I feel that this should be a good inspiration to start with. I believe that this would also work for the whole of my target audience as everything is easy to understand for all age groups.
Malika Favre: https://www.malikafavre.com
Malika Favre is an illustrator who works predominantly with bold colours in her illustrations. She is known for her bold and minimalistic style which has been deemed “pop art meets op art”. Favre is a French artist who lives in Barcelona and has seen her work showcased in Vogue, The New Yorker, BAFTA, Sephora and Penguin books. She is hugely popular within her industry.
Her bold colour is what attracted me to her work. When creating elements for my festival and brand such as: the logo and the motion graphics, I plan to use bold colour to attract the customer. I feel that colour is huge within my festival as people tend to wear more colour in the summer along with patterns and this is the vibe my festival will have also. Therefore, Favre’s work demonstrates how to use lots of bold colour and how to use it effectively.
There is also a use of pattern within her work which as I mentioned above also links heavily to my festival. I have tried to incorporate colour and pattern into my creative process so far through both photographical elements, moodboards and designing brand guidelines etc.
In Favre’s pieces, she primarily uses two or three main colours (there are some exceptions to add more detail to certain aspects, highlights or shadows within a piece.) This is something that I have to do when creating my branding elements also; I need to make a colour palette which will run through all elements of the branding. This is also something that I could adopt when making motion graphics or it could prove better for my festival to add more crazy colours and more crazy patterns similar to the promotion video for the Parklife festival.
