A film about a little girl who has never met her father. She feels left behind. She wants to find him. Her Turtle helps!
Hello all! So Iām sure youāre all aware that I donāt post much anymore unless Iām in need of help and support. And Iām reaching out again. If youāve been following me for a while now, youād probably have also been following Leila (darkmylightt). She is awesome with excellent tastes and is now working on a film and needs your help. It is partially funded by the Hungarian Film Fund and a modest contribution from all you guys would easily push it to its goal. Iāve contributed myself as well. So check out the link and if you dig it, support!

Honorable Mentions // 2015.
Moving up from the worsts, these are the films that are worth mentioning or recommending because they had some supremely excellent moments or elements, but also unfortunately counterbalanced by falling notably short in one way or another.
These shortcomings include: the directorās or studioās usual lack of faith in the audience and thus adding unnecessary or redundant elements (The Revenantās failure to let us accept nihilistic man vs.man, man vs. nature brutality, constantly adding in forced reasons for sympathy or motivation, or By the Seaās explanation for it all nearing the end), redundant subplots and torpid narrative progression as gravitas or introspection (CiaÅo, Murmur of the Hearts, and Bone Tomahawk are all guilty), and very poor extremely shallow semiĀ ātwistā endings that almost destroy the weight of everything prior (Goodnight Mommy and Schneider vs. Bax).
But overall, these films, not only have some decent repeat quality and conversation starters, but also minimize my guilt of recommending something I donāt particularly consider great. As much as I enjoyed the music and sex scenes of Gaspar NoĆ©ās Love, the droll and ultra-stylish rendition of Justin Kurzelās Macbeth, the precision direction and cinematography of Denis Villeneuveās Sicario, or the very straightforward goodness of Cary Fukunagaās Beasts of No Nation, I highly doubt Iād ever actively watch these again.
In any case, these are the honorable mentions:Ā
Bone Tomahawk (S. Craig Zahler)
By the Sea (Angelina Jolie Pitt)
CiaÅoĀ (MaÅgorzata Szumowska)
Goodnight Mommy (Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala)
Murmur of the Hearts (Sylvia Chang)
The Revenant (Alejandro G. IƱƔrritu)
Schneider vs. Bax (Alex van Warmerdam)
Spy (Paul Feig)
The hatred for By the Sea is absurd. Hardly the disasterpiece everyone claims it is, and leagues better than Jolie's previous two textbook personality-less exercises. I like how the reviews I read go on and on bashing the vapidity of depressed monotonous bourgeois beautiful assholey people drinking and existential crisis-ing in sunny beachside villas, and they've four-starred everything Antonioni.
Worst Films // 2015.
It is indeed that time of year again. Iāve been generally inactive on tumblr this past year, but I still want to post these up for the few handful left that may be interested. So here we go, letās get the garbage out of the way.
As with every year, I generally try to avoid films Iām certain will be fucking awful. But, whether forced along with friends or casually background viewing in whatever setting, I still manage to see terrible films... but terrible films that were expected. This year I saw mind-blowing stupid shit like Get Hard, The Gunman, and Sinister 2. But these donāt particularly offend me due to the expectation of awfulness, and itās too easy to name shit like that the Worsts.
But these movies listed below, have me scratching my head and tearing my hair in dumbfounded confusion. I normally will make a comment about each item on the list but I really donāt want to. Just, avoid these...
Diary of a Chambermaid (BenoƮt Jacquot)
Every Thing Will Be Fine (Wim Wenders)
The Martian (Ridley Scott)
Spectre (Sam Mendes)
Terminator: Genisys (Alan Taylor)
The Walk (Robert Zemekis)
White God (Kornél Mundruczó)
