Plot Bunnies | The Accident | E&Z
Zachary had gone out to take Dog for a walk. Thankfully, Benedict really only needed one walk a day, but Dog was a dog with such high energy all the time, she needed to be taken out at least twice a day. The apartment could be a bit small and confining and with no yard to let her out into, Zachary often diligently took her out as often as he could. Today was no different. Although the weather was dark and cloudy, it didn’t bother his small dog in the slightest. She was just as active and as energetic as ever.
Allowing her to lead, Zachary walked wherever she led. The route often changed slightly. Sometimes she’d take a left instead of a right. Sometimes she’d walk the same route until the end but keep going instead of turning back. Today was no different. She wandered as she liked and turned where she felt like it. What made this walk different was the route, but the loud, booming crash.
The scraping of metal on metal being torn apart and the breaking of glass, Zachary could tell it was a car accident. It didn’t sound like a good one either. Picking up his pet, he began to run, looking around for it. Maybe he was just hearing a particularly weird crash of thunder. It looked like it might rain after all. However, as he turned a corner, he could see the disaster that had happened.
There were few things that could make Zachary look truly horrified, but this happened to be one of them. It didn’t help when he looked down to see a familiar head of blonde hair that was lying in what looked to be her own blood. Moving forward, he bent down next to her. “Ettienne?” he asked hesitantly. He knew it was her, but at the same time it was too surreal to belief. Part of him hoped she was conscious so he would know she was alive. Another part of him hoped she wasn’t so that she might not be feeling what he could only imagine to be unbearable pain. Putting Dog down, he told her to stay and so she sat motionless on the sidewalk as Zachary went to work trying to help her. “What the hell happened?” he muttered.
A single tear rolled over her nose and hit the floor, well, merged with the pool of blood that was forming beneath her face. It was as if time had slowed down almost to a complete stop as she laid there, wondering just when someone would find her, but by the time they had would it be too late. But just as that thought dragged itself through her brain she saw a body, putting a dog on the sidewalk and telling them to stay, but it wasn’t just any dog, it was Dog, and moving towards her was Zachary. She could hear his voice, but she couldn’t give him any physical indication that she was okay, and it scared her, that much in fact that silent sobs started to ricochet through her body as it lay in the same position it had been for what felt like forever.
All she could do was look at him, and hope that he could help her, or that she would be able to just fathom some sort of way of communication, because as she tried to speak, she couldn’t, and she wasn’t entirely sure why, the pain that she was currently feeling wasn’t local to one spot, it was radiating throughout her entire body which was terrifying, but she was sure, that even though she was bleeding quite profusely from somewhere on her head, her jaw wasn’t injured, so why couldn’t she just speak to him. Just one word that was all she wanted, and she couldn’t.
The sobs started again, her eyes finally finding his and tears clouded her vision, blinking to try and get them normal again, Ettienne could feel herself getting frustrated, and with every bit of her body, even through the pain, she tried to move, and though her efforts failed, she surprised herself as she managed to force out just one word. “Zachary.”
