Eating his lunch outside wasnât typical for him â mainly because he hated being outside â but that day he had been out and about and lingering in the park felt more welcoming than returning home. Jealous seemed to have really sank its claws into him lately, now more than ever as it seemed everywhere he turned, he saw Joseph and Luke together. Some of the interactions were just out of coincidence and Gio was being paranoid and overly jealous â he knew that. Deep down he knew that he was going to run into them often because all of them lived together at the moment. It was only natural that he would run into them the very same way that Joseph ran into him and Luke every now and again. But for just today, rational thinking could take a hike. He was electing to enjoy his sandwich in the park â in peace â instead.
Anyone who knew him knew that he was a creature of habit. There were certain things he enjoyed and if he enjoyed them, he got into a routine with them. Once he was in a routine, there was really no breaking him from that routine unless someone wanted to face some serious consequences. One of his things he enjoyed just happened to be indulging in his favorite sandwich from his favorite eatery. It probably cost more than it was worth, sure, and really at some point attempting to upscale a sandwich was ridiculous. Still, he found it delicious and he continued with his orders out.
Finally settling onto a park bench under some shade, content with the location he chose, Gio pulled out the square container that held his sandwich. This was it. Finally, he could just relax and eat his meal without the worry or care of seeing Joseph roaming around, or worse, watching Luke happily tug him along around the house and out the door to do whatever in the hell they did. His joy was quickly cut short though, as Gio looked at the meal in his box. It was the sandwich he ordered, sure, but there was something else that caught his attention.
There, sticking out ever so slightly, was a hint of red. He already knew what that belonged to, yet he had hoped against it as he opened the top of his sandwich, confirming to his horror that they had indeed put tomatoes on his sandwich. Worse of all, the ticket said on it rather clearly that the order was to be without. With a loud groan, Gio set the box to the side onto the bench and leaned forward, burying his face into his hands as he started to grumble to himself. The one joy he had been thinking about â his yummy sandwich â and now even that was ruined. Add that on top of the fact that he had hit a bit of a coding issue in his latest project and quite frankly, Gio was not having the best week.
âI hate this. I hate this sandwich, I hate this town, all of it.â
âWhat dida sandwich ever do to anyone?â Wendy joked as she looked at the devilish sandwich in question. âActually donât answer thatâ allergies are very serious. Did they fuck up your order enough that you canât pick off whatever they messed up?â She asked, though taking his concern over the meal slightly more seriously. âNow the town thingâ I canât argue with you on that one. Iâve lived here my whole life so Iâve seen it all. Or heard about it,â she mused as she brushed back her hair. It was so easy for her to be social and talk to people unless it was him and that was when she frozen.

@wendy-miuâââ:
Wendy felt frozen at his brilliant and blinding smile. It was unfair how he could flash a smile like that and she felt weak at the knees. He was so thoughtful. âI was going to be super early so it is okay,â she lied. She would be late and honestly how late depended on how long she could manage to be around him without needing to run. Sheâd trip up, get nervous, and be the color of a tomato if she spent that long of time with him. âThe store is doing really well actually,â she confessed with a blush coloring her cheeks. âPinterest has a lot of good information on setting up, running, and marketing an Etsy store. Plus Iâve reached out to other successful store owners about tips and the like,â she rambled off as she brushed her hair back behind her ear. Wendy was one to get excited and find herself on a roll but it was different around him. It was a nervous ramble when she did manage to finally say more than three words to him. âOh,â she said suddenly as she turned away. âYou probably mean Isabelâs store- uh that is going really well too.â He totally likely meant the store she worked at and the one she had been flaking on but of course her mind went to her own work which she was proud and excited about.Â
He noticed how she adjusted her words from being early to being super early but Jack never thought to write that little correction up to lying. If anything, he thought it reflected an eagerness he knew well and it made him grin. âDonât worry, I know exactly what you mean.â Jack even dropped a wink as if it was some well-kept secret between just the two of them before continuing. âNothing beats a good work ethic.â He shoved his hands in his pockets with his conclusion. Then, like a perfect self-fulfilling prophecy, listened to her passionately rant on about how much she loved her job. See? He got it right. Alright, maybe, he only picked up and understood half of her droning on and- okay, perhaps it took him until she name-dropped Isabel to realize they were talking about two separate things entirely but⌠but sheâd been smiling, really really brightly, and that had to count as a result of being a good listener. âHey, no, come on, I earned that smile.â He pointed at her, as if he was daring her to drop the corners of her mouth while they walked in the sandwich shop. "Even if I was talking about Isabelâs store, youâre more than welcome to talk about the, uh, other one. I think itâs really cool youâre taking on both those⌠stores.â There almost lay a questioning undertone in there. One that grew within him the more he talked about the (small) part of the conversation heâd accidentally missed out on. And glancing over his shoulder at the counter sadly enough didnât provide him with any answers. âOkay, you may have lost me a tiiiny bit with the Pintrest? part but no one better to remind me than you what it is you do aside from selling clothes, right Wendy?â And as long as he chewed on a bite of lunch at all times, no one, not even Jack himself, would be able to interrupt her.
A wink. He winked. He winked at her. Wendy wasnât sure if this was real life or just a dream merging with reality. Slightly pinching herself but where he couldnât see, she confirmed that this was real life. He winked at herâ though to sell his joke rather than actually winking at her. But it was still a wink and he listened to her. Let her go on and on about her jobs without interrupting. He actually heard her or at least that was how it felt. She felt heard and listened to rather than ignored. She constantly felt like things were being hidden from herâ that she was alone which was she started to slowly act out. But right now? She felt happy. âUm yeah,l she nodded. Slightly recovering from him mentioning her smile. Wanting her smile back. Was he flirting? Just being nice? Gosh, she hoped he wasnât just being nice to her cause she was friends with Alice but that was likely it. âSo I opened my own store where I sell garments that Iâve designed myself on Etsy. But Pinterest just has a lot of good and free information about running an Etsy storeâ so I found a lot of good articles and posts about running a successful Etsy store and tried to follow what they suggested. So Pinterest was just a resource I used to build my own store. It is actually pretty successful. Keeps me up at nightâ fulfilling orders.â
With everything going on at the moment, Isabel only had a few of her workers on payroll and limited the boutique to opening just three times a week. She hated having to make that difficult decision, but she didnât have the means to stay open and pay her workers overtime at the moment to balance out her employees that were stuck in Underland. With the shop closing early at three, Isabel had invited Wendy back over to Casper for her own make-shift happy hour in the backyard. After munching and drinking away, she found herself lying on the grass staring at the sky, dreaming about life far different from what it was now. âOkay, if you could teleport anywhere at the moment, whereâd you go? Personally, Iâd be in a villa off a vineyard in Italy. Give me all the damn prosciutto in the world,â she chuckled. @wendy-miuâ
âThat does sound nice,â Wendy said with a smile on her face as she pictured the story that Isabella painted for her. âI think mine would be Paris,â she admitted. âI know it might be clichĂŠ but Iâve never been and it is the fashion capital of the world. Just being able to visit the shops and fabric storesâ or attend fashion week? That would be my dream.â She didnât go into how sheâd like to see her clothing being worn and strutted down the runway for the world to see. Hungry eyes devouring the pieces she labored over and everyone gushing to her about how they couldnât wait to get their hands on it. Wendy wanted nothing more than that. Sheâd do anything to get it.

âI can work with that. A little tulle never hurt anyone and you can quote me on that,â Wendy grinned. Wendy was totally the big tulle ballgown kind of girl who wanted the biggest and most dramatic dress and obviously one of her own making. âOh uh,â she muttered as Winifred questioned her about the shop. Wendy truly didnât think the other woman would have noticed it or even mentioned it but she had. âI have my own Etsy shop that I do like part-time when Iâm not working here.â That sounded good? Like that she put the job that she was currently working first even if that wasnât true. âI think I have the perfect one in mind but if not then Iâve got a black dress that would look great on you.â
âAs long as itâs a little,â Winifred mused, turning back to see what Wendy was pulling for her. âLikeâŚfor crafts? Thatâs what Etsyâs for, right?â She wouldnât know, Winifred wasnât the type to concern herself with things like that. Her free time was spent brokering deals to traffic weapons and drugs. âWell, Iâm all eyes, I guess,â she smiled politely, leaning against the arm of the plush couch in the middle of the boutique, watching observantly as Wendy moved about.Â
âLittle goes a long wayâ some say though I do have to agree from time to time,â she grinned. Whilst she enjoyed tulle and dramatic dresses, heavily sequined dresses or anything with feathers were things she certainly didnât enjoy. âSome people only do crafting things and run their store as a hobbyâ but you know I heard celebrities bought their wedding rings from Etsy. So it also a reputable business avenue too,â she explained. âOkayâ let me go grab it,â she grinned. If only she had access to her completed designs that she could whip out to present but she had nothing on her. Nothing to prove that her work was more than a craft or a fun project. She wanted to be a designer.
@jxcksummerâ
Oh shit. Heâd been totally oblivious to the fact Wendy may have been otherwise occupied already. He hadnât asked, had he? Heâd just strung her along for the ride and his own selfish needs like not wanting to be alone right now. Man, how did one screw up âbeing a good listenerâ before even giving it a shot? Jack looked back, slowing his pace for her to catch up and walk side by side. âCool, then weâve got already one thing in common today.â He smiled, positive that sounded better than an apology. If sheâd finish her coffee by the time they were back at the counter, he would simply treat her to another one or something. âItâs nice out so I thought of lunching outside on the grass or something but you just run off whenever you got to get back to work then, alright?â He still heard only his own voice and tried to think of something to turn the tables on her. âHowâs that going anyways? Work, I mean.â

âMuch less tulle, at least.â Winifredâs style was very no-nonsense, to the point and elegant. She appreciated fashion but it was never her goal to be absorbed in it. There were far more important things she had to take care of. âYour shop?â She raised a brow, confident that, last time she checked, this was Isabelâs boutique. âWe can try that then. I can always accessorize with them too, if thereâs no dress that suits in that color.â Sheâd probably leave with something, even if she didnât love it, because she knew that the sales associates got commission off of sales made and whatever might be thought of her, Winifred still did care to help where she could. It just wasnât as big as a priority as it used to be.
âI can work with that. A little tulle never hurt anyone and you can quote me on that,â Wendy grinned.
