Anger. One emotion that made the nicest of people do the most unthinkable things. It was different for Ettienne though, Ettienne wasnât known for being a nice person. Apart from when it came to certain people in her life, Imogen, Cooper, Zachary, to name but a few. But this time, anger had even made the niceness towards one of those people disappear. Zachary,
Normally, the opinions of other people didnât bother Ettienne, she didnât let it linger in her thoughts, and she certainly didnât act on anything that was said. But when her Mother had text her that morning mentioning that she thought she had an inability to Mother children herself, and that she was too "obsessed with work" it had stuck in her head. Something clicked, and it was the sort of click that meant that whoever was in the tiny tornado of a blondeâs path, had better run, or be able to put up one hell of a fight.Â
That click had also triggered Ettienneâs thoughts about Zach, and her Mother was right, maybe she wasn'y able to Mother children because she simply wasn't ready and Zachary had made her realise that, not that that she was ever going to let him know that.
The weather was matching with her temper, dark, cloudy, and the storm that was starting to stir, resembled something of a sleeping dragon, and she knew, just like herself, it was going to blow, some time in the very near future. Jumping in her car she shook off the shiver that had danced along her spine from the cold and set off on the 20 minute journey from her place of work to the Denver apartment complex. A route she took far too many times a week. The first left she took led Ettienne onto a long stretch of road, one that she never drove sensibly on, one that she wasnât going to drive sensibly on today. Why break an old habit? Cranking the music up high, and stamping her foot to the ground, she felt her car move that little bit quicker. Adrenaline coursed through her veins and for a few seconds, everything that had happened in the previous weeks were forgotten. That was until Ettienne saw the car driving towards her, on her side of the road, and it wasnât slowing down, her heart started to race, and the only thing she could hear was the not so gentle beat of blood being pumped around her body. And then autopilot took over and everything seemed to slow down. Her hands on the wheel, sharply turning to miss the car that was steam rolling towards her own. The deafening sound that followed was one that left Ettienne wondering what the hell had happened, and then she realised. Sheâd not turned fast enough, or sharp enough, and the car that had been coming towards her, had hit the back end as sheâd turned. Itâd hit her that hard it had flipped her black range rover, the deafening sound was that of Ettienne's car roof hitting the floor, the screeching was that of the metal being ripped to shreds on the harsh floor. And that cold sensation that had just hit her? That was because her body was now laid, half in, and half out, of the passenger side window, in a quickly forming pool of her own blood.
