Except that Jayce DID understand. Sure, it took time but he did eventually and when he did he immediately accepted his inevitable demise simply to be with Viktor again. He wasn't afraid of dying, he welcomed death because it would come from Viktor's hands (and mind you, he fought through hell and back in the dystopian world just to get back, he didn't want to die but he knew what had to be done, he understood what it would take to fix things and heal their world)
