Radovid’s fingers bled, the strings cutting into them, as the tears fell from his cheeks. His hair, now short and stained brown, disguised the former king. He’d tried, he’d really fucking tried. But being a king meant nothing to him, not once he’d lost his heart. If only he’d practiced more, tried harder. So he became a bard, adopting the name Marigold in honour of his lost love. Radovid had no formal training and his voice was shaky at times, but he played Jaskier’s songs the best he could and he made an honest living. He just… he wanted more.
