Detail of an ancient Egyptian granodiorite statue of Lady Sennuwy, dated to 1971-1926 BCE. Found in Sudan. Lady Sennuwy and her husband, Djefaihapi, were buried in the tumulus or royal burial mound of a Nubian king who lived decades after their deaths. It is unknown why and when Lady Sennuwy and her husband’s tombs were relocated to the royal Nubian tomb. Currently located in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Keller’s style evolved from a strict approach in the 1920s to a more relaxed one as seen here. It is a simple, yet sophisticated image of a girl reading; created using flat tones of color and no outlining, except for behind her hair. The focal point of the image is the girl’s eye, which irresistibly draws the viewer to the poster. To accompany the straightforward design, the poster simply reads, “a good book makes you happy.”
