So all of you complaining about SNW breaking canon here, it's not. It's really not. Kirk knew and wasn't involved. He didn't care enough to be involved. Yes, I know the movie frames it as honoring Carol's wishes but that is such a lame excuse. Kirk's a deadbeat dad and he always was. He might feel bad about it, but he chose going to a conference over spending time with his son. Deadbeat.

Like, for example, T'Pring, Sybok, his parents, pon farr, what a katra is, Michael, etc?

Oh wait. He knows none of that. Jim, never stop beating those dumbass allegations. Allegations made by me. Because you're a dumbass.

A Case of Chiaroscuro

Now Spock can't give her the slightest benefit of the doubt and worse, the show makes it look like he doesn't even care about La'an's feelings.

All the intimacy and understanding and connection between them suddenly gone without an explanation (because the show doesn't take time to actually explore their feelings and relationship).

And apparently they don't talk about anything anymore because he didn't know about her worrying so much about her Augment side and the appointments with Christine.

Once again I'm left with the feeling after the episode that there was not enough focus and too much left out to explain the changes between La'an and Spock, those real conversations about them addressing their issues and where they're standing with each other.

The amount of sloppy backpaddeling from what they started and already did build between them last season and not even giving them real scenes together to sell the break-up with emotional payoff is very annoying and frustrating to watch.

At least they looked very pretty in black and white.

They're not scared of her. They don't Actually think she'll do anything bad. Erica went toe to toe with her in the commandeered yoga classroom without fear, and while she didn't leave Scotty alone because she was worried he'd hurt himself despite how much he annoyed her, she had no problem leaving La'an to her own devices because she didn't think she'd do anything properly regrettable.

Scotty is, actually, kind of afraid of La'an, but canonically in a way where he trusts her and respects her. Not the kind of afraid where he'd sleep with one eye open.

If M'Benga and Chapel Actually thought she'd do something very bad with no inhibitions, even After she went to them for scared in 4x01, it's not like they'd have let her go to a planet specifically designed to be a drunken bender.

Una, Spock and pike were even aware that she'd been itching for a fight.

I'm just struck by, narratively, how La'an has so much fear over herself and how none of the people she's closest to are afraid of her. Admittedly, I'd forgive Kirk for being weary of her because honestly, ghost possession or not you don't just forget the feel of a huge ass knife shoved into your guts. But he didn't seem to be having any issues hanging around the enterprise regardless of the stabbing. I assume we'll be getting a deeply awkward moment between them eventually, though.
