I lowkey love that so many TES OCs (at least that I've noticed) have the side-shave hairstyle. Some of mine included, of course (like Tilven). Someday we should all make a giant group art of all the side-shaved hairstyle ocs for funsies. They can all be friends.

Question of the week: What are their disabilities/conditions?
This question came to be by a suggestion of a friend
I often think about how with so many different people out there, there are also so many different conditions, which also can manifest differently from person to person. A missing leg, short sighted, chronic pain, depression, epilepsy and many more. So, today I ask you what are their disabilities or conditions? Were they born with it? Do they need aids or some medicine for it? How do they feel about it and does it affect their life?
In this case also includes scars, if you were wondering. Also noticed a bit late conditions could technically apply to Lycanthropy and Vampirism too, but I leave that up to you whether you feel like it's applicable to your OC's case!

Gosan has a missing eye and a very significant area of scarring in their original canon, which we kept. Except since they're a Dunmer, it would be strange for them to have a burn scar, so now their scarring is from shock damage. It also includes their ear, left-side neck, and shoulder. The internal damage to their ear did partially heal, though they're still hard-of-hearing on that side. They also deal with the chronic pain that that amount of scarring brings, along with lasting neurological damage including nerve pain and chronic migraines. They've had migraines & bad pain less frequently over the years, because I didn't want them dealing with it that bad for 200+ years, but they're still predisposed to migraines as a side effect of alcohol or weather changes. I also permanently fucked their left knee up at 250+ years old, because they're my personal pincushion. They take it all on the chin now and try to normalize it, but they've fallen back so significantly in their capabilities with each respective injury that they had a lot of fear & anxiety around not being able to be the one who takes care of everybody anymore. They have an eye patch that they cover their missing eye with when it's cold, and they really should get themselves a permanent cane, though whether they will or not is undetermined.
Dalas has drowning-related trauma that has them occasionally suffering from flashbacks, panic attacks, and nightmares, but other than that I can't really think of anything? For someone who constantly tanks lethal damage they're really healthy. They're narcoleptic in their original setting but for this one it just felt a little too impractical to implement. (Oh actually wait they do have scars. At least one on their side from a dragon bite and one through their torso from Mercer stabbing them [and then the wound later reopening & having to be hastily operated on.])
Gadro is permanently dissociated and has PTSD even if they don't know it. And few other people "know" it either because to the untrained eye their dissociation makes them seem chronically chill. Like insultingly chill. But they're never fully in their body or surroundings, and if they ever do manage it, it's extreme sensory overwhelm, so they nope back out. They see this as a blessing and pretty understandable thing to do.
Ysara has vampirism, but I'm not sure to what extent she'd consider it a disability. Rather, with some prodding she might admit it's a chronic condition, but she wouldn't call herself disabled. She did invent her own blood substitution potions that are made from bone marrow rather than actual blood or meat, so she does rely on those for food, though again she might not consider that medication. Nor is the sunscreen formula she adopted medication to her. What is medicine is the madness-suppression potions she now also relies on after her indirect "reading" of an Elder Scroll. She doesn't know what would happen if she were to stop taking them, but she doesn't want to find out.
reblogging here again cause our blorbos go together.
Felda-ryn has ADHD, depression, cPTSD from their traumatic upbringing, and some pretty severe imposter syndrome. They were raised with the idea drilled into them that their only worth was as a potential Nerevarine, and when that fell through they were to be neither seen nor heard. They tend to mask all of that under an act of grandeur, but those closest to them realize that they aren't nearly as full of themself as they pretend to be. They're also littered in scars from their adventures, some of which would probably still hurt if they were alive.
I'm not sure if it counts as a disability, but Ashagen's consciousness is sometimes usurped by the Elder Scroll (more specifically, the information contained within them leaks out). Usually this leads to them speaking prophecy to people, but sometimes it will completely overtake their senses and they'll mentally slip into the threads that make up reality.
Ciireth has insomnia, and it took help from a dream demiprince for them to be able to manage it. They also have some very nasty scarring (and lingering trauma) from the magical explosion during the College of Winterhold questline, which gave them conjurer's burn.
Varyn has PTSD from his life as a soldier. But he's also the most adjusted of all of them.

Which OCs?
Question of the week: What's their gender and sexuality?
It's midyear, time for pride!!!
Sounds like a simple question, but I really didn't know how to word it in a way that isn't endlessly long. Tamriel is a such a diverse world, of course it's citizens also express themselves in all kinds of ways. So, what's their gender? How do they express it? Their experiences, their feelings with it? Do they like to perform as a different gender and/or change their expressions of it?
What about their sexuality? I know Tamriel is pretty open about sexualities, but maybe they still had some unpleasant experiences or are uncomfortable with it.

For Living History, technically all of our characters (at the start) were translated over from another game, and in that game their entire species goes by they/them with no specified gender identity or sexuality. So we kept the they/them pronouns, but it felt weirdly unrealistic for them to all come from different backgrounds but all have the same pronouns. Between that and just feeling like slapping "nonbinary" on there & calling it a day was boring, we applied a headcanon that elves in general, then specifically Dark Elves, then specifically Dark Elves of each of their given backgrounds, would have more genders than how "male, female, and both" are presented in-game.
"Elf gender" is the broad shorthand category to suggest the presence of more nuance both within and outside of the Imperial genders. Elves as a whole (read: Aldmer and all cultural descendants) have "accepted" gender identities that are tied foremost to position in society, then inclination towards certain physical characteristics including sex, then either pronoun usage or relationship with the outside world. For example, the canon character Karliah is she/her in a nonbinary way to us, because her elf gender is something that's fitting of her archetype: Dunmer rogue with obscured gender-neutral physical expression who has a feminine name and goes by she/her. There's probably some more unique pronoun that would fit her gender better that Dunmer especially might know to use, but it simplifies to "she/her".
Felda-ryn and Gosan both started as "binary genders" and discovered they did not identify with those gender roles at different rates. They're Ashlanders from (initially) different clans who were raised in a way that fit the cultural gender expectations of their given clan: Felda-ryn being "spitfire female warrior" and Gosan being "male warrior who is devout". Felda-ryn also had additional gender complication from being raised as a potential Nerevarine-- obviously "Nerevarine" did not subsume male or female, but "Hero-gender" is very much a thing that potential Incarnates would have had applied to them. When they both had their revelations about how they truly identified-- Felda-ryn as not a female & an adventurer not warrior, and Gosan as not a male and not devout in the culturally expected way-- they strayed from those pre-set definitions and fell off the "binary". Their pronouns (she/her & he/him -> they/them) were a crucial part of this change of identity.
Puraneri is also an Ashlander but despite going by he/him for a long while, their gender identity was both traditonal among their clan and one that we would consider "nonbinary". Puraneri was the brewer and as such they ended up being the one that the whole social network of the clan revolved around; their identity was being the producer & maintainer of the clan's cohesion. Unlike gendered positions such as Wise Woman, "hearth-keeper/community pillar" is its own gender identity because it is irrevocable from how they present, while their specific choice of pronoun is really just a footnote that doesn't change much of anything.
Dalas, my Dunmer Dragonborn, is "mixed" in almost every way you can be. They were born in the Velothi mountains on the Morrowind side but they were born in a refugee group that migrated into Skyrim when they were little, so they culturally adapted to Skyrim and the Nordic lifestyle. They were raised partially & significantly by Gosan and Puraneri, but the refugee group was comprised of mostly non-Ashlanders and was never established as an Ashlander clan/not raised with many consciously Ashlander traditions, so Dalas doesn't really have that cultural identity either. They've also got a lot of soul/incarnation shenanigans going on, but either way in terms of gender they're the most literal nonbinary character I have. They've never even been on the binary because there wasn't one for them to be a part of-- they don't fit into any perspective, be it Mer or Nord or Ashlander or Imperial. They don't have any biney. Once the events of Living History start getting underway they pretty much become Hero-gender whether they want to be or not, but that's still not on a "binary".
Gadro is non-binary in both an elf way and a Daedra way, because they're a Demiprince. Their gender is as incomprehensible to the mortal mind as it is to their own. They figured it out pretty easily, they just can't explain it to you. It's vibes-based, y'know?
Ysara is the only non-elf & binary character that I've got. She's a lesbian woman. She used to be a Breton and now she's a vampire but neither of those has had any significant impact on her gender or sexuality whatsoever. That girl likes girls and she's messyyyyy about it.
Reblogging from here because these are our blorbos. Also lorkhanine covered Felda-ryn for me and I want that on my blog.
Ashagen, before their journey began, would align with the alchemist/poisoner gender. They're similar to Karliah, and honestly they probably used the same elf pronoun, but she/her didsn't feel right to them so they used they/them. The merging of the Elder Scroll complicated this a lot. Their gender is probably something more akin to a god's now. It's weird and kind of unknowable, and it wouldn't be wrong to use any pronoun except that they like they/them the best. They aren't quite "Hero-gender" like Dallas is. I think they'd be closest to "Mephala-gender" and end up using the same elf pronouns that Dunmer use for Mephala.
Ciireth is probably the only character that slots right into the stereotypical non-binary image that comes to mind when binary people think of non-binary. They are a scholar, one of the few remaining spellcrafters in 4e 201, and they want to present as neutrally as possible (this does end up being slightly masc leaning). This probably stems from them being half Bosmer, which I go into a little more detail in Enthir's section.
Varyn is my binary guy, but even he's like... cis in the elf way, you know? He's a "male warrior who is devout." His devotion shows up in his dedication to his family and his cause, which is to protect those weaker than him. As a member of the Redoran Guard, he values Honor and Duty. Enthir isn't my guy but he's also cis in the elf way. I don't know that Bosmer would have as much nuance to gender as the Dunmer have, since they don't follow the Daedra Of Gender. I can see them being looser with it and way less prone to labels. The "male" and "female" terms are much larger umbrellas than what most would assume. There's technically a binary, and thus an existence of non-binary, but the binary is more like a word cloud than a specific idea. Enthir would fall into a Bosmer's idea of a "male merchant," which in itself is an umbrella, and to our mostly Dunmer cast there's a tacked on "in a way that emphasizes how shady he is."
Sometimes I consider having more adversary wrt gender in our world, but it's kinda nice just having all the NPCs be Real Cool With It.
Also: imagine Gallus's delight when Enthir and Karliah explained elf genders to him. What a fucking nerd.
