brasil
fyi for anyone that isnāt up to date or aware about brazilās new president elect, let it be known that he (Jair Bolsonaro) recently accepted a portraitĀ that is made entirely from bullet casings from artist, Rodrigo GonƧalves.
bolsonaro ran his entire campaign on 1960ā²s nostalgia (when brazil was under a violent dictatorship) and hyper militarization against the countryās most vulnerable, whom happen to be the poor and non whites.Ā
brazil already has an incredibly high police brutality rate against blacks and the poor (even more so than the U.S)Ā
if we continue to normalize this type of behavior and ideology, conservatism will rise in this country and peopleās lives will be in danger.
Oi gente,Ā
I had my first solo trip to Lisbon, Portugal and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Lisbon was definitely one of the most beautiful cities I have visited in Europe and i was so happy I could experience the language, its people, and so much more.Ā Ā
If anyoneās interested, you could view my vlog about it here!
Saudades, Lisboa

imagine how much easier romance language learning would be if accents didnāt exist
not to be such a cliche but whenever I speak spanish I automatically feel more elegant, romantic, and wiser. it might just be the idea of me feeling empowered knowing more than one language.
racism in the latino community
people often believe that latinos canāt be racist because weāre all placed as minorities in the u.s census but thatās obviously not the case. latinos in the u.s includes a variety of ethnicities, races, and religions. while brown, black, and other marginalized latinos in the u.s donāt hold the systemic power to be racist, that doesnāt mean that white/white passing latinos canāt. white latinos and latinos of fair skin have always played into the colonial racial hierarchy of society and still do. latinos especially those who live in latin america love to believe that racism isnāt an issue because their countries donāt focus so much on race in the media compared to the U.S. however, white latinos in latin america still hold the majority of the power in elite spaces such as the government and academia. anti-blackness and discrimination towards smaller minority groups such as asians in latin america are unfortunately very common. this post was kinda messy but i just feel like this is a conversation to be held.Ā
brazil
im so tired of people especially of non latin descent to be criticizing my passion for studying brazilian politics and culture. the stigma behind any latin american country is so exhausting and overplayed. brazil is one of the top 10 economies of the world and offer more than we could possibly think. more than 200 million people live in brazil and that includes an incredible range of diversity. people from all around the world migrate to brazil and thousands of brazilians are migrating to other countries such as the u.s, canada, and europe. the erasure that people want to place on this country and its people is tiring. brazilians, like many other latinos contribute so much to the world and never recieve the credit they deserve. iām proud to be interested in such a beautiful country and i will always defend it!

Why is everyone using an X in Lantino?
SO WHAT ITS A GOD DAMNED O? I DONāT CARE. Look, weāre destroying an entire language for the sake of āgender equality.ā I think the o is fine, because its a part of the fucking language.
What is wrong with you people, yaāllāre destroying my culture for your stupid pc crap. Who the hell cares? Why do you care? Why do you care so much that you have to dismantle an ENTIRE LANGUAGE just to make everything more inclusive?
And for all you feminists, I dont understand, because men get generalized here. If you want to talk about a woman, the gramar of the sentence gets changed up, entirely for that woman. Just for her. Because she is special.
Sincerely: la guerita de mi familia.
men donāt get generalized, women and other genders do. if there is a group of all girls and one boy you would sayĀ āestoy con mis amigosā notĀ āmis amigasā because of the menās presence. also the x in latinx is for all the people who donāt identify with boy or girl... its for all the genders in between. nobody is trying to destroy an entire language... we are IMPROVING it + we are just trying to make the traditional sexist spanish language inclusive for everyone. plus nobody is forcing you to identify withĀ ālatinxā, you can proudly label yourself as latino or latina if you want. language evolves just like society, you should too.Ā
Latin American Studies
Iām so tired of people belittling my major (Latin American and Caribbean Studies) when they literally have no idea what it consists of?? My major consists of history, language learning, media, geopolitics, economics and so much more. I get to learn about the latinx population that is rapidly increasing in the U.S and other nations as well. The U.S and europe have great ties with several Southern American nations, so I donāt understand why people would think my major could be a waste? Latin America and the Caribbean is a huge community that contains millions of diverse ethnicities and religions. Latinxs are everywhere and I am so proud to be representing my people.
SPANGLISH
Growing up bilingual has been a blessing but has anyone ever struggled with both their native languages?? For example, I grew up speaking both spanish and english at the same time so sometimes i feel like i canāt perfect one or the other ever. Sometimes my english is sloppy when Iām around spanish too much while somedays my spanish completely crumbles apart. I know they are two different languages but for me it can feel like one. Anyone relates??
Random selfie taken in the car while waiting for my friend. Anyways yaāll, ever since iāve been back at home from college I havenāt practiced my portuguese much and Iām kinda worried. Now that iām done with classes, I donāt really study the language anymore especially the grammar and verbs. I try to listen to some brazilian sertanejo but thats about it. I ran out of netflix portuguese shows to watch so that sucks. I feel pretty confident with my intermediate portuguese but I donāt want to forget any vocabularyā¦. do you think that can happen?

FEW SPANISH LEARNING TIPS
⢠Watch Spanish languge TV and movies

⢠Record yourself speaking a few phrases everyday.
⢠Try to meet a spanish speaker near you or even online. Apps like Tandem are great for this!
