of all the things we know about what etho gets up to, one i think about the most is that time bdubs said he’d once heard etho eat an entire bag of carrots on a call. just think of him there crunching away on an entire bag of raw carrots.

so day one of the death game you get approached by this girl who's psychosexually obsessed with your red life self and the guy who runs the death game. and they say hey we want you specifically for our evil villain team. of course you agree because all you want is to be wanted, and you have practice from that one time when everyone told you you were evil and dangerous and you went with it because no one would touch you so what else could you do. anyway you complain a little about them choosing a notoriously ugly block as the next major addition to the base, so they react by framing you as their moody teenage daughter (you're all about the same age) and implying that you're not really a full part of the team, you're kind of off on your own. then they get drafted into a secret murder club without you and kill eight people right in front of you and you defend them fiercely without having any idea they were completely guilty. after that they promise to do better and go right back to their bullshit. but hey at least they freak the fuck out and get really possessive any time they perceive a threat against you! clearly they care! so after five sessions of this bullshit and you occasionally sneaking out to catch a break only for them to complain about you disappearing all the time, now there's reds on the server and traps everywhere. your one teammate gets the curse and sets up a trapped chest and your other teammate accidentally triggers it with you standing on there, and you die. you decide to gtfo of there and go exploring to destress, but you're so anxious and wound up that you end up dying twice to other traps, and they beg you to come home but you're so overwhelmed and for some reason you can't explain, you'd literally rather be anywhere else than home. you can't stand it there. you meet back up with your team and then some guy blows you all up, and now you're red. and your teammates are so happy you're red. all they've wanted is for you to go red and kill people for them. and all you want is to be wanted so you pretend to be excited even though you've lost four fucking lives and you're a miserable anxious wreck. they send you out to kill the guy that just blew you up with no fucking armor on, like they specifically say to take off all your armor, and you listen because all you've ever fucking wanted in your entire life is to be wanted, and you fucking die alone in the woods because you weren't wearing any armor. your worst placement of any season by a MILE. somehow despite all the shit you've been through you consistently managed to be the best ranking player and best teammate of anyone in the series but all of that went straight down the toilet and no one had anything to say about it besides the guy who had a messy breakup with your teammates. what an unexplainable unexpected tragedy. crazy how this shit happens

I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.

on an even more basic level than that, also, I simply just think some of y’all NEED to learn how to interact with media and storytelling without ships and fandom in mind. like if not being able to write fic about two men kissing is genuinely going to be a dealbreaker for you I think that’s actually something you need to work on within yourself because at that point I think you’re no longer really interacting with art and themes and narrative so much as just kind of playing with toys. which is, like, fine I guess. have fun. but it wouldn’t kill you to disengage from that from time to time. especially if would allow you to actually appreciate rich and deeply moving cultural stories from communities of color that you desperately need to learn how to see as human
