As soon as Vera and DĂ vid reached the room of the schoolâs best music engineer, they knew that something was off: there were clear signs of movement behind the door left-ajar, a shadow that swiftly paced the floor as if waiting for something. Vera knocked loud and clear as her voice whilst she called for âBonnie Babineaux? Are you in there?â and the shadow stopped immediately at those words, followed by a quick turn towards the door. The journalist didnât wait for a response and pushed the door open, revealing a pink haired teenager standing in the middle of the room, an aggressive expression crowning her heavy makeup and skinny figure.
âSo you are indeed hereâ Vera entered the room uninvited and Bonnieâs gaze narrowed as she bit back with a âWhat do you want?â. The journalist smirked, knowing they were closer to the truth than thought, and crossed her arms as she paced around in search for clues. âIâm investigating, my dearâ she took her time to carefully look through every item in the room without touching anything, not having (yet) the right to do so, âabout the murder that happened last night.â Her eyes quickly moved to the girl still standing in the middle of the room to check her reaction to her words, to which she replied emotionlessly by raising an eyebrow. âWhat were you doing the night of the murder?â
âHello? I was the DJâ she replied, waving a hand in front of Veraâs face, âI was putting songs on and checking on those weird kids that keep touching my stuffâ. âSo you do know about themâ the journalist got closer to the girl: she just states she had connections with previous persons of interest and her room clearly looked like it had just been cleaned - perhaps to hide proof. That was it, Vera felt she was so close to the truth and could already see the headlines on the next number of the schoolâs newspaper, and maybe even a local one!
âOf course I do, everyone does!â Bonnie rolled her eyes, wondering what kind of dumb question was that, âIâm sure they did something to the karaoke machine, itâs completely fried!â.âWell, they did confess that crimeâ Vera chipped in, and the pink-haired girlâs eyes widened as she let out a high-pitched sound followed by âI knew it! I knew it had been them, oh, theyâre so in troubleâŚâ
âSo, prone to violence arenât we?â Vera smirked again, reducing the distance between them to make sure she felt uncomfortable, although now she did thanks to the girlâs height, âWhat were you doing when our dear teacher slowly burnt through the flames?â.
Bonnie stared straight at the girl in front of her and got closer, hands on her hips as she revealed the truth. âHonestly?â she narrowed her gaze, âI was about to commit another murder!â. Vera gasped at the reveal, but the pink haired girl quickly corrected herself. âThere was this girl with long black hair and even longer skirt - she justâ Bonnie moved her hands randomly through the hair, paler than before, âstarted screaming out of nowhere just a bit before everything went dark and my ears - God, my ears! I couldnât hear anymore for a couple of minutes, I think she broke the sound wall!â.
âLong hair and skirt?â Vera had to stop for a second to think, raising an eyebrow as she realized the screaming girl. âAsami Yuki?â she asked, only receiving an unbothered âWhy would I know?!â from the other. âIf you saw each other, that means she can prove your alibiâ the journalist concluded, sighing as she realized that it may have been too soon to call it to an end. âIâll speak to her but you-â Vera got closer to the girl, pointing a finger towards her chest, âyou stay put, am I clear? Youâre a person of interest - even though thereâs nothing interesting about youâ.
Then, the duo left, leaving Bonnie screaming her lungs out for the outrage the red haired girl had just left her with, concluding her cussing spree with a âI KNOW YOU STOLE THAT FROM DIRK GENTLY!â before shutting the door close.

Knock knock
âWhoâs there?â
âVera and DavĂŹdâ
â⌠and whoâs that?â
âSchool newspaper, weâre here to talk about the ⌠math teacher.â
âHm⌠hm⌠weâll let you know.â
âWhat?â
A silence befell the corridor as the two waited for⌠whatever decision the kids were making, filled only by a whistling DavĂŹd and Veraâs annoyance at that. Suddenly the door swung open and the reporters were let in, after what had apparently been a briefing.
âOk, you can stay, but be quick, we have things to doâ, the blonde kid said, pointing at what seemed to be a camera filming a chicken eating kiwi-shaped bread, with a kiwi on the side and some funky music in the background.
âWhere were you when the teach-â
âNooo, Lorraine, noo, you canât eat phone chargers, how many times do I need to tell you!â
â-er diedâŚ?â
âWhat?â the kid asked while forcefully keeping the chicken away from the power outlet, as two others filmed the whole scene and her friend helped her.
âDid you commit the crime or not?â finally DavĂŹd asked, inching closer and closer to a mental breakdown.
âWell, I didnât-â Karpina started, âwas it another one of you? Was it you, Lorraine? I know it was you, you canât hide from the police forever, here, take her!â
âSheâs innocent!â Maria shouted, hugging the chicken with tears forming in her eyes.
âWe werenât going to take her seriously, I can assure you.â Vera said, but the kid was already full-on crying, and so was the kid who had been filming chickens just one minute earlier.
âIt was me! I did it! All on my own!â Maria admitted through sobs, still holding the chicken that was trying to escape her arms and go eat something it definitely shouldnât eat.
âNo, it was me!â The kid who had been filming, Karina, revealed through her own sobs.
âSo⌠you two kids murdered a teacher in cold blood?â Vera asked, somewhat perplexed by the recent development.
âWe what? Thatâs the crime you were referring to? Oh⌠yeah, that makes sense.â âMakes total senseâ âWas kind of dumb for us to think otherwise.â âI mean, a teacher was murdered in our school and we just supposed it wasnât thatâ âWe have been very busy with our chickensâ âThat is trueâ â The two children kept muttering between them, having already forgotten about the presence of the two journalists all together.
âWhat crime did you think we were referring to?â Vera asked.
The two kids looked up, tried for a second just not replying, or lying, or ignoring them, but immediately retorted to sobbing and admitting their faults.
âWe broke a microphone!â the two screamed together, in a deafening synchrony.
âThatâs it? You just broke a karaoke mic?â DavĂŹd asked, desperate.
âYepâ Karina replied, as if she hadnât been crying two seconds before.
âWell then, thanks for your ⌠help, bye.â DavĂŹd said, speed-running towards the door, dragging Vera by the arm.
âAre we really done though?â Vera asked.
âYes, yes we are. Absolutely.â her partner said, closing the door behind her, with a headache that wouldnât leave  any time soon.

Vera could feel they were at least one step closer to the truth, perhaps they were still missing lots of pieces to complete the complex puzzle that was the murder of the math teacher, but at least they were one step closer. And that step was made towards a room full of PokĂŠmon posters, various instruments and different bunk beds covering the walls, a chamber smelling of dirty socks, cheese (??) with a hint of different perfumes (the writer hopes no one gets near such a tremendous smell in real life) and the duo couldnât help but wonder what the hell happened in the actually quite small room those younglings were used to live in.
When Vera opened the door the next day, revealing the nauseous smell and possibly a rat that soon disappeared, but it was so big it couldâve been one of the kids for all she knew, a spiky blonde head looked at her confused, his pale face almost completely hid by a huge blue scarf as his big icy eyes stared down at the journalist.
âHello there,â she started, well knowing she wasnât that popular among younger audiences, âmy name is Vera and Iâm the school journalist, and this is my assistant, DĂ vid.â She showed her partner, but quickly frowned when she noticed the guy smelling the room without even entering and rambling something about having tasted a similar cheese before. âWeâre here to speak with Jing and Terek, are they here?â.
âWhat do you want from my friends?â the short kid furrowed his brow, assuming a protective stance in front of the door. âAre you here to fight them? YOU WILL HAVE TO PASS ON MY DEAD BODY-â
âCan you please stop pretending everyone wants to fight you?â a brown headed boy pops up near the blonde one, hitting him with a pillow that easily knocks him down. âYouâre not strong enough to protect us!â
âBut-â the blonde guy cries, raising his head up dramatically towards the other one, his hand reaching out to him as if he was slowly dying, âI gave everything, my pride, my honor, to protect you, how could you do this to me?!â.
âI did what I had toâ the brown-haired kid raised his gaze to no point in particular, acting even more dramatically than his friend, âI know you want to protect me, but I have to do the same with you, or else you-â he frowned, a hand on his mouth for fake crying, âyou might-â.
âWhy are you guys having a play right in front of the door?â a third guy came out behind the two, looking confused. âDid one of you get in trouble again so youâre building this act to make them believe youâre crazy so theyâll let you go? Cause I donât think thatâs gonna work for the fourth timeâŚâ.
âNot if you reveal our plan!â the brown haired guy looked at him with disappointment, sighing as he turned to face the red haired girl just as she remembers why she doesnât like to roam around those hallways. âWhat do you want?â.
âIâm looking for Jing and Terek?â she quickly asked, her question welcomed with a surprised gaze by the three, as the angry kid pointed at himself and the guy behind him mouthing a âus?â. âOh, itâs you, perfect! What were you doing the night of the murder?!â she stepped a bit closer, her eyes widened and fixed on the pair.
âPartying?â Terek answered confused. âIt was a party after all, although it ended in murder!â the last word was spoken with a dramatic touch that Vera liked, but ignored for health reasons, as DĂ vid was starting to ramble about seeing weird stuff, having inhaled too much of the characteristic scent.
âBesides that,â she pointed out, crossing her arms and standing still, âyou guys were accused of having a fight the night of the party, for which you chased each other-â.
âI remember!â Jing exclaimed, furrowing his brow as his gaze shifted from Vera to Terek, âHe was being a dumbass as always and wanted me to be the victim to another one of his stupid pranks!â.
âStupid?â the other looked shocked and hurt, âTheyâre works of art, you wouldnât understand. And either way,â he turned again to the red-haired girl, âwe wonât be answering other questions without our lawyers!â.
âYou guys are what, 5? 6? You canât afford a lawyer!â the girl pointed out, as the kid smirked.âWhat if we do? Our lawyers are in that room,â he gestured a nearby door, and concluded with a âyou should talk with them first!â before closing the door so violently it startled DĂ vid, who slowly came up to his senses. âWhat now?â he looked at his partner, who stood silent as she firmly walked towards the new door, wondering what could be worse than that⌠Sheâd soon find out that thereâs never an end to how bad it can get.

The duo quickly strolled through the room to the other side, where their next suspect stood idly, drinking her punch, completely unfazed by her classmatesâ noble attempt at hiding the body from the younger students. âFrancesca Hepburn, you are under arrest for the grilling of our teacher!â Vera screamed (perhaps not thinking her words through too much). âNahâ she simply replied, and went back to reading her book with nonchalance. âWhat were you doing to the punch?â Vera asked. â⌠Drinking it?â ââŚ. And what else!â âIs that a question orâŚâ âWeâve been told of your suspicious actions around the punch.â ââAight, if you say so, check it out yourselfâ Vera was ready to throw herself in the bowl if that helped her prove her theory, but a stroke of genius prompted her to throw her assistant under the bus. He doubtfully took a glass and drank it, immediately noticing the stark difference in taste from the one expected, but with a taste that reminded him of his childhood and his motherâs tea. Thatâs when he knew sheâd fucked up. âItâs just alcoholâ, he said, returning to his place beside his partner âso weâre⌠Accusing you of getting school children drunk!â âI didnât mean to pour it in, it was just for my glass, when those bloody kids came rushing and pushed me, I donât know who raised them but they definately havenât done the best job!â she said, sipping from her cup in disdain, as if she hadnât just tried to justify alcoholic beverages at a school party. â⌠So itâs them!⌠The culprits? Yeah?â Vera asked, more and more confused but not less ready to kick ass as the case became weirder and weirder. âWe could check it out.â DavĂŹd promptly suggested as they walked away without asking who they were going to talk to. Realised the mistake, they awkwardly went back and Francesca, before they could say anything, pointed in the direction of three kids standing in the corner talking and eating as if somebody hadnât just been murdered before their own innocent eyes.Â

There is only one thing I remember about my mother's tea parties, if not the cries and the laughter, the strange taste of the tea, nice, sweet, but intense and bitter (and weirdly burning in the throat). I have never found a tea with the same taste, but other drinks... (it's something a child doesn't want to know about but renown among teenagers, to give an idea). Those tea parties were... interesting, I couldn't stop laughing - I don't know why- at the scenes my mother and her friends were making, the jokes, Â the tear-jerkers, the problems they often used to talk about. I think I wouldn't be the person I am now if I hadn't observed those tea parties, but they aren't a good way to face your problems, particularly if you like your liver.
