I have a horrible love|hate for Erik

Kirk is a lover. Jim Kirk is in love with Space and the starship Enterprise and the great unknown. But there is part of him that wants to love and be loved. Kirk has had to work and sacrifice and forfeit a personal life for all of his young adulthood and the better part of his thirties. One does not become the youngest captain in Starfleet history by indulging in their romantic and carnal desires--but Kirk is, at the very end of the day, an utter romantic. It's in the way he speaks, so gentle and quiet when he isn't commanding and stern. He's a dreamer. He's a star-searcher. He goes to new worlds and new civilizations and finds beauty. That is not a man who loves them and leaves them. That is a man with a sensual heart, a screaming desire to love and nobody to aim it towards. His affairs are not taken likely by him or the people he shares them with--but he is a wanderer, an adventurer. He takes a part of everyone he loves with him, attached to his mosaic heart, and hopes for the day that someone will come with him and he won't have to leave love behind.

Then, of course, there's Spock. A scientist to the core. A Vulcan, a being of (ostensibly) pure logic, but his mother's son nonetheless. Careful with his touch, covetous with the almost-smiles he bestows and the person he bestows them on. Deep voice, elegant hands. Straight posture and raised eyebrows. Always, always just one step behind Jim. The most constant and consistent presence in Jim's life, aside from the ship itself. Of course the clamoring bit of himself begging to love attaches itself to the side of Spock's heart, somewhere in his left side, and burrows in. Of course he falls in love with the man who offers himself, body and mind, to the alter of Jim's command. Of course he falls in love, if only because there are smiles and secret touches that he doesn't have to walk away from. Kirk, whose so very Human heart beats red blood into his pink cheeks, his smiling lips, has dreams that are patinaed in shades of green.
