"Would you stay still!", Crosshair demanded, "You're moving too much I can't get the angle"
Wrecker was holding Gonky high above his head, as Crosshair adjusted his re-calibrated blaster (set to stun of course) to the target that had been haphazardly slapped on Gonky. Clone Force 99 had parked in a large field on a friendly planet, to stock up and take a short break between missions.
"C'mon Cross we've been here for agesssss", Wrecker groaned, "I'm bored".
"Stop whining, I'm not sure the angle is quite right yet", Crosshair scolded.
"Wrecker", Echo called exasperatedly from inside the Marauder, "Come here".
Wrecker sighed, putting Gonky down to Crosshair's complaints, trudging over to Echo standing looking irritated at the bunks.
You watched from a seat in the ship where you were riffling through the medkit, frown settling over your face at the scene.
"The bunks are a mess, you need to sort this out right now", Echo chided Wrecker.
"Awww alright…. alright… keep your head on", Wrecker sighed, getting to work tidying the rubbish, and assorted items strewn around the bunks. He had barely made a dent when Hunter's voice rung out.
"Wrecker, I need you here"
"But.. but I'm…", Wrecker mumbled, both hands full of stuff from the bunks.
"Wrecker!", Hunter's deep voice called more insistently.
Wrecker dropped the items unceremoniously back on his bunk and headed down the steps to outside, where Hunter was standing next to a stack of crates.
"Wrecker, I need you to catalogue the explosives - we can't just have them all thrown in here".
Wrecker nodded, sighing, "On it Sarge". He took the spare datapad and popped open the crates, starting to rifle through the explosives.
You followed behind outside, watching.
"Wrecker", Tech tutted, not even looking up from his spot on the ground under the ships hull, "I need you to hold this panel while I make the repairs, it is very important"
"But Hunter needed….", Wrecker tried to correct, but Tech cut him off.
"Whatever Hunter needed can wait, this is urgent".
Wrecker once again abandoned his task, and slunk over to Tech, crawling under the hull of the ship with him to hold up the panel as requested. You watched, and moved over to look at the datapad where Wrecker had started to catalogue the explosives, intending to help.
"Wrecker!!!", Echo called, angrier than earlier. Hunter, Echo and Crosshair all congregated around the crates, as Wrecker moved to slide out from under the ship.
"Wrecker, do not move from your position I need to continue these works", Tech noted.
"Tech, I need to talk to him", Hunter grumbled, and Tech motioned from Wrecker to slide out from under the ship, grease smudged on his forehead, looking exhausted. Tech stood next to him, clearly unimpressed.
"Wrecker, I told you I needed those explosives catalogued", Hunter scolded, Wrecker looked sheepish, eyes on the ground, he looked like he might start to say something before Echo cut him off.
"The bunks are still a mess?", Echo chided.
"And I still need…", Crosshair started.
"Will you all just STOP? Do you even hear yourselves?", You shouted over their complaints.
The clones turned to you, surprised expressions on each of their faces. Wrecker looked up from the floor, staring in disbelief.
"You've all been demanding Wrecker do things all day, and not one of you have let him tell you he's already been told to do something else. How can he do target practice, and clean, and catalogue and hold the ship up all at once?? You didn't even let him speak!! You've all treated him like a slave all day and not one of you has said please or thank you. Not to mention, he is the only one of you that actually has any ability to communicate any emotion other than irritation, some days it looks like he is literally carrying this squad on his back, and not one of you grown men have said anything nice to him all day".
Awkward silence settled over them, but you looked directly at Wrecker. A tentative grin spread across his face, his eyes wide and surprised.
"Any of you have anything to say for yourselves?", you settled your fists on your hips, looking more a scolding mother than their medic.
The brothers looked at one another, even Tech silent for once, but Wrecker's eyes stayed firmly on you.
You scoffed, frustrated, "Well if you're not going to say anything to me, you should least apologize to Wrecker. I am going inside to help clean the bunks, which Wrecker would have been able to do if you weren't all so demanding".
Brushing past the clones you stormed inside the ship, irritation sitting squarely over your shoulders. You started to angrily clean around the bunks, your hair coming loose from your ponytail as you shoved assorted wires back to Tech's, spare bandanas to Hunter's, blaster cleaning rags back to Crosshair's (Echo's bunk was unsurprisingly, spotless), and just as you had scooped poor Lula off the floor you heard heavy footsteps behind you.
"Hey little lady", Wrecker said quietly. From anyone else, the nickname would have been condescending, but as Wrecker had always delivered it in his warm kind tone you had come to quite enjoy it.
You span around with Lula in your arms, hair flying wildly, looking up at the large clone. He still looked tired, but happier than earlier.
"They apologized", he said, "Thanks to you"
"Good", you grumbled, still annoyed, "It wasn't fair"
"You didn't have to defend my honor like that", he said, warm smile beaming down at you, "but it was kinda amazing"
You laughed, irritation rolling off your shoulders, "I'm glad, I felt crazy watching them push you around like that".
Wrecker lent forward, brushing a stray hair behind your ear. You felt your face heat up at that, assuming you had a bright red blush forming across your face. His hand settled on your cheek.
"It's sweet, for you to care about me like that", He leaned down, bending to look into your eyes.
Your breath caught in your throat for moment, the sound of your heart beat in your ears making it hard to think.
"You would do the same for me", you muttered, leaning slightly into his warm palm.
He smiled, moving forward, your noses bumping together, hand bringing your face closer to his.
"Is this ok?", he whispered.
You nodded, and you barely had time to take a breath before he was pressing his lips against yours.
The kiss was gentle, sweet, lips moving together as you leaned forward, gripping on to Lula in one hand as you slid one of your hands up his chest.
You pulled back for a breath, and pushed closer to Wrecker, kissing him harder. His hand slid up your cheek to the back of your head, other hand sliding forward to rest on your hip, pressing you both closer together.
Wrecker pulled back, grinning ear to ear as he stood back looking down at your flushed smiling face. You adjusted Lula from under your arm where she was squished, making sure your arm was around her tummy and she was looking up at Wrecker.
Wrecker's grin spread even wider as he looked down at Lula and back up at you, pulling you in for a crushing hug. You giggled as you were squished into his broad chest, feel of his mouth still lingering on yours.
"I'll defend your honor any day, little lady", he whispered into your ear.
You pulled back, heart pounding, both all smiles as you grinned at each other.
You took a step back, and held Lula up between you, "Let's clean these bunks, shall we?"
He saluted, making you laugh, and took Lula from you, "Yes ma'am".
