- for someone that broke your heart into a million pieces and in return you broke his at a party, he sure has the confidence.
cast: h2h stella&ian, cortis, jennie as reader's older sister, jisoo as seonghyeon's older sister and rosè as martin's older sister, Ingshot & newjeans.
martin sat in the third row with mina and james by his side, waiting for seonghyeon and juhoon to run through the locker room doors. they already waved over to keonho who was sitting im the front row, he probably went here super early just to get a good spot especially since it was seonghyeon's first ever game.
"there's so many people." mina grumbled, clutching onto herself and trying to block her ears.
james looked over awkwardly, hinting a little piece of judgement for her expecting that there wouldn't be many people at a high school basketball game. honestly with anything mina did, neither him or juhoon were big fans. the friendship between martin and mina was the reason why
"when is this even starting?" she asked meanwhile the blonde was busy searching in the crowd of heads, wondering if you came as well. he used to always bring you along to the boys' games, whether it be james or juhoon's.
the crowd suddenly went wild at the doors opening, revealing team captain kim juhoon leading the team with seonghyeon right behind him.
the three could already hear keonho yelling over everyone with his pom poms, making it his mission to embarrass seonghyeon who was waving at someone in the crowd.
" he's got a girl or something?" martin snorts, looking for the person sean was waving to but with the crowd blocking his way, he couldn't see.
mina stared into the crowd, noticing a familiar head through multiple ones - it was you. she had a definite feeling you were going to be here, after what she saw at the party and with hanni's twitter post, something told her that there may be something going on between you two.
she couldnât let but enjoy the thought of it, maybe this time, itâs her turn.
maybe he could finally let you go.
-
your face nearly gets hit by keonho's stupid pom poms, the boy making the biggest ruckus everytime seonghyeon had his hands on the ball. the crowd was entirely impressed by the new boy's skills, working together with juhoon against the rivals.
"you know sean keeps looking at you?" stella teases, her eyebrows raising up and down in a jokingly matter - she noticed it right away, with the way seonghyeon kept making small glances on court just to check up on your reaction. after every goal, he did so.
"what?" you stumble, " no he isn't." yes he was, you had to deny it to her face but you knew he was looking at you up in the bleachers with that face of his, a grin on his mouth - especially after seeing the t-shirt change. you wore his jersey over the shirt you were wearing.
"comeee on y/n, he's cute. you've already admitted that, it's been like a couple weeks since you two met and you get along with him!" she continued - but you knew exactly why it was taking time to ease into seonghyeon.
he reminded you of martin. the same enthusiastic personality, dealing with your attitude, of course it was hard to let seonghyeon in - your ex boyfriend broke your heart over another girl and it took you a while to come back to yourself.
you weren't proud of the way you become after the break up, distracting yourself with parties, having the other girls have to keep your phone away from cursing out martin, barely showing up to class. it had to take your older sister, jennie to sit you down and wipe your tears away. you somehow remember that night, it was a party at yunah's, where it got so bad that hyein had to call jennie.
she reminded you that martin lost you.
he was in the shittier position, she even let you know that rosie didnât talk to him for two weeks after she found out what happened. you never wanted to see yourself in that position ever again, to wonder what was so wrong with you that you couldnât be the first choice without hesitation.
â just not yet, bells.â you smiled, the orange haired girl easily noticed the shift in tension and nodded back - never wanting to step over your boundaries. keonho interrupted the chat, swinging an arm over you and stella. hyein and ian were busy chatting about something else beside you, they only came to check out the other teamâs guys.
you quickly made your way into the empty hallways, hearing the muffled yells from the crowd. to be honest you just needed a small break from the amount of people in the gymnasium mixed with the volume, it was so annoying having to be surrounded by people like that - but oh well, you wanted to support seonghyeon.
â y/n?â a familiar voice called out, stopping you in your tracks. fuck. no. no. no. youâve fallen asleep to that very same voice you didnât want to hear calling you out, your body tensing knowing it belonged to martin edwards.
â oh um hi.â
your head turned quicker than you wanted, looking at him standing right behind you - holding onto a water bottle.
â what?â even after these past few months, you still treated him the same way. he tried speaking to you but you blocked him on social media and from your life, martin would try get your attention in the hallways but either hanni or ian would shoot him down.
jennie even told you that rosie told her martin asked if she could talk to you, but she refused.
â you look nice.â he blurts out as if you didnât spend nights in his arms.
â i should go.â you mumbled, unable to properly look him in the eye. it was easier to see photos of him on your feed or in a crowd, but face to face was horrible. he immediately moves after your words, trying to reach out but you step back. the look on his face seeing your reaction made your heart ache.
â just one minute, please bab- y/n, sorry.â martin replied, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand trying to calm himself down from this interaction.
seeing the desperate look on his face, you sighed.
â i didnât know you still went to these games.â
â iâm just here for my friends.â you wanted to keep the conversation simple, although there was a part of you that had a soft spot for the boy.
â oh um are you having fun then?â what kind of question was that.
no iâm not having fun. iâm here talking to my ex boyfriend that broke my heart with a crowd ass crowd behind us.
â yeah i guess.â it wasnât like you could tell him to fuck off, right? okay maybe not. no matter how angry you were at him, you still had some place in your heart that belonged to martin edwards. no matter how mean he was.
he nodded his head, opening his mouth before the door opened wide revealing mina. in your head you just felt another wave of disappointment, bringing you back to the moments that caused the catalyst of your break up with martin.
his face drained completely, seems like you werenât the only one whose mind brought them back to old times where you and martin got into heated arguments over mina calling, asking for his presence.
â iâve got to go.â you scoffed, pushing past him. he tried calling after you but you already rushed back into the gym doors, running his fingers through his head in frustration. this was the first time youâve properly allowed him to actually speak to you in three months, and it was easily ruined.
â oh, everything okay?â mina asked walking over to him. martin stared at the ground, nodding his head. â letâs just go back inside, mina.â he completely curses at himself in his mind, another chance fucked over.
-
right on time when you got back to your position with keonho and stella beside you, the crowd got even wilder. you stare at seonghyeon who was breaking ankles, multiple people telling sean that he was the guy. â fuck yeah eomsean!â keonho screeched, using every piece of energy in his body to show support for his beloved best friend.
the timer went off as soon as seonghyeon dunks the last winning goal, the crowd going absolutely insane at the newbieâs talents. keonho throws his pom poms up in the air, the fluffy objects getting lost into the crowd. the team immediately crowded seonghyeon, juhoon and heeseung lifting the boy up.
â come on!â keonho grabbed onto you as he brought you along to the court, the girls giggling at the fact that he was basically bringing you along to congratulate seonghyeon.
on the other hand martin and james were cheering for their friends win, focusing on where juhoon and seonghyeon were on the court as they were being congratulated by people around them. mina stayed in her spot next to martin, focusing on the crowd instead.
her eyes suddenly widened at recognising the familiar sight of you and keonho together on the court, rushing to seonghyeon.
to her luck, martin noticed that as well - noticing the number on your back that he didnât see before, seonghyeonâs jersey.
he didnât even know you two knew each other, nevertheless close enough for seonghyeon to wrap his arms around your waist in front of everyone like youâve known him for years.

idk if you take request or ideas but here is one!! itâs 4 am as iâm writing this even tho i should be asleep!!
okâ i thought about this today while looking though my seonghyeon magazine cause thatâs bae but!! imagine like the reader is an idol as well (debut around the same time as cortis also under bighit/hybe) and like the reader said on live by accident how badly she wants her cortis bias (the bias being seonghyeon ofc) and like how she would shoot her shot if she wasnât an idol but she realized she was on live, thankful she didnât say his name tho. It stirs a big thing in the kpop community, going on interviews and getting teased for it, always getting asked âwho is your cortis bias??â and always giggling and deflecting the question but sheâs like embarrassed (??) and gets all shy because her and seonghyeon are friends and worried that if she gets rejected, the industry would never let her live it down. eventually like the public finds out who her cortis bias is because of something stupid (i.e. reposting a bunch of seonghyeon edits on the official random girl group acc instead of her own private acc by accident). seonghyeon teases her about it but he doesnât know itâs him sheâs been talking about the whole time. ofc her members know who it is but like obviously
love your works pls donât explode
WAITTTTT first request ever kind of nervous AND IT'S ABOUT SEONGHYEON TOO đ i've recently fell for his charms and im ngl he makes my heart flutter so bad so this is extra exciting to me hehe <3 and this is super cute hello??? lemme kiss ur brain for this idea
though I don't know the exact timeframe when i'll finish (im lowk a slow writer) but I promise to write this for u đŤĄ

âââ ⸠now playing CariĂąo by The Marias
âAre they at least trying to be subtle?â you murmured, still scanning an opened document on your laptop resting on Martinâs lap as you leaned in close. So close that he could count your eyelashes.
They, as in the unexpected audience you gained as soon as you and Martin walked into the cafĂŠ, because it seemed that visiting a fairly new establishment wasnât an idea uniquely your own.
There were four of themâfour pairs of eyes belonging to four girls in your year seated a few tables away from the couch you had previously made a bee-line for. It sounded like a fair enough distance, sure, but considering the brutalist, yet spacious concept the place had, the four girls still had a clear view of you two in your own world of coffee, matcha, the occasional appearances of a treat from the pastry displayâcourtesy of Martin minding your sweet toothâand your organized pile of study materials.
Martin hummed in response to your question, pretending to give the cafĂŠ, that was slowly, but surely becoming busier by the minute, another routine sweep with practiced curiosity that would have belonged to someone genuinely interested in the new environment. However, this was Martinâs fifth time doing just that, where his initial curiosity had long morphed to caution by the fourth.
The threeâalmost fourâhours that youâve been here, neither of you could really shake the feeling of being watched, and it was a littleâwell, veryâdistracting, especially when you were going over both physical and digital notes with the hopes of retaining the myriad of information.
It had been funny at one point; the whole RPF gag, but despite it feeding his ego (and delusions), Martin would like to enjoy his weekly alone time with you. Alone was the keyword hereâwhere there was no audience to witness what you and he built from years of closeness.
Normally, he would have complained about you subjecting him to study with you, but with finals coming up soon, Martin had quickly complied if it meant it would lessen the need to cram. You still made the not-so-date fun regardless, and thatâs like killing two birds with one stone.
âNope,â Martin responded just as quietly and caught Gehlee, who had been doing a horrible job at being less obvious since the very beginning, in the act. She flinched and whipped her attention back to the other girls. Martin snorted, shaking his head. âNone of them know how to be subtleâthatâs like the ninth time I caught Gehlee staring.â
You let out an amused huff. âEverybodyâs just nosy even outside of school.â you closed your laptop. âThink we should call it a day?â
âHuh?â Martin sputtered, already missing the heat emitting from the underside of your laptop when you placed it on your lap. âBut itâs still early.â
âI know that, dummy, I meant,â you emphasized with a tilt of your head, âwe should leave and go somewhere else where people we know won'tâI dunnoâbe there to stare at us?â
Martin sat up straighter. âWhatâd you have in mind?â
You then get this look on your face. This exaggerated version of contemplation with overly pursed lips as you tap your chin in thought. Martin couldnât help the short laugh that came out of him, covering his mouth when a few people whipped their heads to look for the source. His shoulders still shook though, even more so at the smirk you flashed him.
âThe weather looks nice,â you commented, letting your gaze linger beyond the windows framing the lush greenery outside. âWhy donât we take a walk?â
So long as Martin got to be with you, heâd probably say yes to sky-diving if you asked.
âSounds good,â he said and moved to put away your stuff before you even had the thought to do so yourself.
You let him anyway, seeing how fascinating the sight was.
It was almost like watching yourself gather your pens one by one and stuff them neatly into your pencil pouch, down to Martin lining up your notebooks from size to thickness was almost exactly the way you did with measured precision. You handed him your laptop just to see what he would do and as expected, Martin plucked it from your hands without much thought to it, gently pushing the laptop into the designated compartment in your bag.
You didnât even try to keep the fond smile from spreading on your lips when Martin did one final check in case he missed anything. Then, with a satisfied smile aimed more to himself, he zipped your bag closed and slung over one shoulder while standing up.
The entire thing had you letting a giggle slip, which in turn pulled a wry chuckle from Martin. More of an automatic response if anything, as he glanced down at you, gaze softening at the way your cheeks bunched up from the wide smile brightening your face.
âWhat?â Martin asked, grinning as you composed yourself.
âOh nothing,â you tittered, waving him off, still tickled pink by the fact Martin had, over time, picked up on your habits. âYou sure you wanna carry that?â You nodded towards your bag.
âLight work.â Martin shrugged, hooking his thumb over the adjustable strap and then offered you his other hand. âReady?â
âYeah.â
Although Martinâs grip was firm, he remained careful when pulling you up from the couch and earned him a softly uttered âthanksâ while fixing your skirt, your fingers still tingling from the warmth of your best friendâs hand.
On the way out, you caught the eyes of the four girls who all had the decency to appear chastened once you gave them a playful, narrowed stare, only for the tough act to drop completely when Ella gave you a thumbs up. Heat flooded your face as you scrambled to herd Martin out of the cafĂŠ before he could glimpse at what flustered you that bad.
Martin made a startled sound. âWhat? Whatâs going on?â
âDonât worry about it,â you said, feeling the urgency once you picked up the sound of giggling from the quartet of girls and then stage-whispered, âhurry before they get the idea to follow us.â
Braving the late afternoon with nothing but Martinâs jacket and your knitted cardigan wasnât so bad. The sunâs rays were less harsh around this time and the mild breeze was a perfect addition to keep both of you from breaking out into sweat. Though to be on the safer side, you took a detour and got yourselves drinks before resuming your walk.
No words were exchanged. Just the crunching of gravel beneath your boots was what mostly accompanied you. Sure, there were brief chats that mostly involved pointing out things like the cute puppy on the leash sitting with its owner Martin had urged for you to check out. Or a cloud formation that resembled the stuffed bunny Martin had painstakingly won for you years ago from Lotte World that still found its way into your arms every night. There was also this weird looking tree that made both of you laugh so much to the point of almost tripping over yourselves.
A joke was written here somewhere. Something along the lines of spending so much time with each other that youâve simply had nothing else left to talk about, so your eyes wandered instead.
To Martinâs sneakers, significantly bigger than your own pair of boots, taking long strides that always left you exerting more effort in keeping up by walking faster. To the half-empty water bottle he held, dwarfed by his hand, then to his faceâall sharp angles of his jaw and nose, softened by the delicacy of his big, round eyes and his lips that appeared to be in a perpetual state of pout, having a heavier bottom lip that jutted outâthen all the way up to his grown out blonde hair you helped bleach and tone last summer and maintained whenever his roots grew in.
There was a time where inclining your neck like this wasnât at all necessary too, and all you could think in the moment wasâ
âWhen did you get so tall?â
âHuh? What brought this on all of a sudden?â
âJust thinking.â You gave a lazy shrug, shifting your gaze forward again. âAbout how I used to be taller than you for like, five minutes. The one day I was staring at your shirt instead of your eyes. You grew a head taller than me the summer I turned eleven.â
Martin snorted. âGenetics played a huge role in itâlike, my dadâs white, which makes me half-white, soâtall,â he said the later half in English just to emphasize his mixed heritage, making you laugh.
âIâm very aware,â you replied, also in English, because of course you had to pick up on the language growing up as well as his habits. Itâs only natural. âYou could afford to lose a couple of centimeters thoughâso my neck would hurt less from constantly looking up at you. Maybe give me some of those cms so we could be the same height at least.â
âNah, I meanâI could just do thisââhe hunched over, demonstrating the most atrocious posture youâve seen him in and then turning his head to look at you. âHow âbout it?â
You were perfectly eye-level this way, but Martin looked too ridiculous to take seriously, the goofy expression he had offering no help at all that your cackles were immediate.
âStop,â you snickered as you lifted your hand and pushed gently at his cheek. âthatâs kind of insulting.â
He stood back to his full height, grinning and face slightly flushed. âI was trying to compromise.â
âYou're fine just the way you are.â You elbowed his side. âMaybe youâre just like Clifford The Big Red Dog.â
âYouâre comparing me to a fictional dog?â
âOkay, but hear me outââyou raised your pointer fingerâârunt of the litter puppyâyou. You used to be smaller than me. Puppy was loved and cared for by his owner, Emily, so much that he grew twenty-five feet tallââyou raised your middle fingerââIâve seen your family, Tin. Youâre really, really lovedâitâs so sweet, actually. Not just them, but anyone who gets to know you.â
Martinâs grin morphed to a teasing smile. âYouâre awfully sentimental today. Are you dying? Will I get to keep your stuff?â
âFuck off,â you laughed. âIâm not. I just think itâs cute, and it makes sense to meâso Iâm choosing to believe it.â
Maybe Martin would like to believe that as well. Would like to believe that not only his family, but you too had indeed loved him so much long before either of you could understand how complex the concept of love could turn out to be. Poured so much of it into his being that his body had no choice but to grow and grow and grow to size big enough to contain all of it, and maybe one day give it back to you tenfold.
The walk lapsed into silence once more, but something else hung in the air after your comparison. Something that had Martinâs pulse racing just a touch faster than usual. Then there was you, still glowing from your own discovery, a faint smile pulling at the corners of your mouth.
With each step you both took, the back of your hands brushed against each otherâs. Martin would feel a knuckle, sometimes even the full length of a dainty fingerânamely your pinky because Martin can differentiate them, apparentlyâgently trace a nonsensical pattern with each sway across the length of his hand.
And it was when he felt your pinky almost hook around hisâa barely-there tug against his own did Martin decide to say fuck it and make a decision that could possible change the trajectory of his life for the better, or for the worse. Whichever it was, heâs already planned ahead for both. He just hoped he wouldn't end up doing the most drastic plans of action out of the two.
Martinâs lips flattened into a thin line as he took in a deep breath and let it out through his nose, steeling himself.
He started slow. As careful as someone could be when dealing with an easily spooked cat. His fingers brushed your wrist covered by the sleeve of your knit-cardigan. He chanced a peek and you didnât seem to notice anything amiss.
Martin took this as a go-ahead.
Lower and lower, and finally, the pads of his fingers settled into the middle of your palm with his thumb hooked around yours. Your steps slowed, and so did he.
It was now or never, or the possibility of ruining something perfectly good. Safe.
âIsâis this okay?â He asked, too flustered to even look at you.
He heard your breath hitch and Martin had to close his eyes to brace himself for the worst.Â
Then Martin felt itâyour hand sliding up and pressing flat against his, meeting him in the middle, the unmistakable sensation of your fingers slotting in between his longer set and closing and Martin honest to god could have started tearing up then and there when you squeezed his hand; as if youâre telling him that this is okay, more than okay, that he didnât need to second guess himself when you pulled him closer so that your arms were flushed.
âYes,â you said, voice quiet as you gave his hand another reassuring squeeze. âYes, itâs okay.â
Tenderness bled through your simple, yet earth-shattering answer to his request that had Martin glance at you, only for his breathing to stutter when he found you already looking up at him. The same tenderness your words carried evident in your bashful expression, a smile that made his chest swell with an insurmountable amount of affection Martin was sure he was about to burst at the seams.
The look on your face had something in Martin shift. A place deep within him that was once hollow slowly filled with each second he had your hand in his.
Martinâs held your hands plenty in the past, treated itâyou like an anchor whenever you were outside to play. As you both got older though, plenty had become less and less, especially when you reached adolescence. A time where you start becoming conscious about yourself and everyone around you. Martin didnât want to make himself come across as clingy, didnât want any problems with guys who took a second longer staring at you.
He loved you, yes. Loved you more than words could ever give justice to the all-consuming feeling of wanting someone he wasnât sure he was allowed to want or have. But Martin didnât want to keep you from exploring life on your own, and he definitely didnât want to make you feel like you had to stay wedged to his side at all times.
It was one of the worries that disrupted what peace was left in his mind at times, and it would sometimes make him wonder if he had been holding you back all this time.
But as you looked at him, smiling so sweetly like this was everything youâve wanted from him, maybe Martin had been too trapped in his own head to actually see beyond the expectations he had limited himself to.
âTin, look.â
It was both lost to you how long you had been walking, finding yourselves face-to-face with a newly built playground just across the walkway separating it from the edge of the Han River.
As Martin took a closer look, he saw two kids playing at the swings. A boy and a girl around the same age he and you met for the very first time.
The boy didnât appear to be having much fun pushing the girlâobviously having the time of her lifeâon the swing, though he also didnât look like heâd be stopping any time soon. From here, Martin could hear the young girlâs shrieks of delight whenever the boy managed to push her hard enough to have her going higher, and as he squinted, he caught the boyâs triumphant smile when he was praised for âbeing so strong that she was almost flyingâ.
âWow,â you said. âI wonder where Iâve seen this before?â
Martin laughed. âLooks familiar, huh?â
âGosh. Itâs crazy to me how we were that small once,â you mused, gaze still lingering on the kids still in their own worldâa fragment mirroring the past playing itself out in the present you still shared.
Martin feels your cheek press into his arm, warm even through the material of his coat, followed by you holding onto the crook of his elbow. Martin had bitten down on his lower lip to keep himself grinning like a goddamn fool. He was right where he wanted to be.
âIâm really happy weâve found each other that young.â
There was a niggling thought in the back of Martinâs mind where it was persistent in its claim of you possibly meaning something else with that. Though he didnât linger on it for long and instead let himself bask in this quiet moment with you, wishing that this tender moment, where a mirror from the past reflected the now, would never end.
Thatâs how Martin found himself in your bedroom an hour later, both of you still in your outside clothes minus the shoes you left back at the hyeongwan. He couldnât find it in himself to leave you just yet and it was still early anyway; both to his and his familyâs standards, and they knew where he was, so they didnât need to worry.
He rested against your headboard, phone in hand while you laid on your stomach, painting the nails of his other hand with black nail polish. Something low and bass-heavy thumped from your speakers, courtesy of Martin, as this all was happening, and this here was the quintessential of your hangoutsâjust simply enjoying each otherâs company without much else.
âDo you think weâll still be together in every universe?â you asked, and Martin forgot how to breathe.
Together. You said together. A more broader term than the definitive âbest friendsâ. A label that has been attached to both your persons since forever that he feared thatâs all that there was for you both. That has to mean something, right? Youâve called your duo as best friends so many times that Martin had lost count. It was an automatic thing where it really required much deliberation. It just is. A fact known by many.
Maybe heâs putting too much thought into a question that you didnât mean to come off as loaded, so he stopped himself from spiraling and humored you with an honest answer. Honest as it was hopeful that there would be multiple versions of himself that would choose you every single time.
âA hundred percent.â
âYeah?â you grinned, âI think so too,â you agreed, ducking your head with a shy smile as you resumed painting his nails, your hair falling from where it was previously tucked behind your ear.
You didnât seem to mind the slight obstruction to your eyesight, carrying on as if there wasnât anything out of place. Martin, on the other hand, was a little peeved by it that his other hand, now free of his phone, reached out; thumb brushing the hair out of your face then followed by his fingers retucking it behind your ear.
And somehow, he ended up cupping your cheek.
At some point in his lifeâprobably in his pre-teensâMartin had wondered what it would be like to have the world at the palm of his hands. It was a thought he had when he had fixated on space back then. This was the closest feeling to it heâll ever getâthe soft skin contrasting the roughness of his hand, the warmth of your cheek, the gentle swell where what remaining baby fat resided fitting perfectly into the curve of his palm.
This was definitely crossing so many lines. Martin was very aware of that, though it didnât look like it bothered you in the slightest when you paused your work to blink up at him in question.Â
Still, it was like cotton filled Martin's mouth with his inability to say anything to save face. He scrambled to come up with anythingâan excuse, a made up emergency to get him out of here with no questions asked, or something ridiculous to make you laugh as a distraction. Anything.
Martinâs crash out didnât last too long, nor did it go long enough for it to be even considered a crash out because you were smiling at him.
The kind of smile that was content, yet shyâan honest, devastating mix exclusively detrimental to Martin who was already taken by anything you did, and as the cherry on top, you giggled. The short, yet cute giggle you would let out when you found something cute and funny as you leaned into his touch, looking absolutely darling in his hold. He was going to explode.
God, you were going to be the death of Martin one day, and he was going to be so pissed if death came at his door before he could even tell you how much he loved and adored you.

âAre they at least trying to be subtle?â you murmured, still scanning an opened document on your laptop resting on Martinâs lap as you leaned in close.
Then one day I was staring at your shirt instead of your eyes.
