Mike’s brain hadn’t quite processed Julie’s request. Either that or it refused to. Julie looked at the stunned Burner next to her in concern but, after a few minutes of awkward silence, her concern turned to annoyance.

Recently, there had been a long stretch of peace in Motorcity, as well as a few birthdays among their friends, so the Burners took advantage of the calm and allowed themselves to relax.

On the weekend, it was Dutch’s own birthday and they decided to go all out for him. It was a small but lively event, with Tennie and a few other close friends getting invited to their HQ. Jacob had even offered some of his homemade beer as a gift to the group. Now, none of them were big drinkers, merely enjoying the occasional glass every once in a while, but on this occasion they all drank until they were pleasantly tipsy.

Tonight, the two of them would have sex for the first time.

Well, Chuck mused, maybe if you wanted to be technical they’d already had sex a few times but these were frantic handjobs during stolen moments of peace and quiet. Those barely counted. Tonight, however, they had all the time in the world to be intimate.

I know I haven’t been posting much art, lately. But I’m seriously busting my chops on this new project. This is just a teaser. And it’ll be a long while before you can read this one.

All I can say about it; the sketches are finished and ready for refinement and it’s related to Motorcity.

Well I’m glad that you’re enjoying it. You make a valid point about Claire’s mentality. From Claire’s perspective, she’s concerned about Julie’s well-being and she knows that what Julie is doing is really dangerous. Gotta give her] props for not ratting Julie out. 

I love Claire just as much as I love Julie and I don’t want people to think that I’m trying to make either one to be a monster. Most people would easily see Claire as the apathetic/naive person who doesn’t really care about MC.

In the show they did bring up the issue in a round-about way in “Julie and the Amazons.” 

Julie: "funny, I’ve been trying to tell you for months. But apparently I didn’t have a cool enough wardrobe or haircut to make you listen." (translation: You’re too self-absorbed to listen to what I have to say.) 

Claire also addresses Julie’s faults in what she’s doing too. Which is lying about who she is to both sides and her decision to participate in the “war.” (via Mike)

For the record, I do not support “jukebox” at all, but I love tugging on the string to stir up the tension.

It was implied in the argument that Mike was Julie’s initial reason she started to care about what happens in Motorcity and her father’s methods. (but of course, it’s only an observational headcanon.)

Claire: "You didn’t use to dress like that or talk about cars…then you met Mike and everything changed."

And you’re right, Julie and Claire would have clashed about it again more seriously if there was a second season. This was just how I imagined their argument would go. Lots of hurtful accusations and hurt feelings.

I think that’s where Mike came in. Mike was the first person Julie saw that stood up to Kane so boldly despite how close he and her father had been. Up until that point, Kane thought of Mike as a son and probably heir to Deluxe (and I’m sure Julie was aware of that, maybe even a bit jealous of how proud Kane was of him.) 

Seeing Mike throw everything away to fight for what he believed in was the inspiration Julie needed to start fighting for what she believed in. She finally started to feel like there was something she could do to make a difference.

So Claire was right: everything did change when Julie met Mike. And, through Mike, she discovered there were even more people willing to stand up against Kane. 

From Claire’s perspective, it may have looked like Julie was going down to Motorcity because she was “into” Mike or to impress him, but Julie says one of my favorite lines from the show to Claire — “I have something I believe in and I’ve got to fight for it.” Mike showed her how to fight for her beliefs. 

I agree that Julie would have lacked the courage to stand up to Kane in the beginning. And envious of Mike's relationship with her father. In my headcanon, I believe that Julie hated Mike out of jealous for a long, long time. He was her father's golden boy, the "favorite" sibling and Julie was the literal "unwanted redheaded" child. Funny how that worked out. lol
