Soliloquy for My Wife
Day 188
In Those Quiet Hours
In those quiet hours
When dreams are born
and restless visions haze:
In that sleeping place
I step out
and walk
through a timeless maze.
It’s at this place
where I see your face
Your image
lingers there.
I walk the place
we have walked and
remember sweetly
where we have talked
of princes, kingdoms,
pain, thoughts of
growing old and
wisdom bought
at the price of our youth.
In those quiet hours
I think of you.

A long time ago before you even thought you were dying
waking up crying from a dream is always a discomfiting way to start the day … i feel so bereft
i shouldn’t get bangs … i shouldn’t get bangs … but they are Calling To Meeeeeeee
i’m never going to get another duffel bag (until my current one breaks) no matter how difficult it is to squeeze all of my clothes into it. never give up. my ability to shove another linen tunic on top of an already mounded parcel of clothes is greater and more powerful than the confines of my cheapass bag

dragging myself back into living kicking and screaming
Also, I wish they'd kept the middle English a degree or two more alien to a modern ear
It's such a cliché to say that a film isn't historically accurate and Werwulf is a horror, so of course it's atmospherically grey and gloomy. And I am so excited to go and see it - it looks gruesome! But the 'muddy middle ages' trope continues to vex me! I don't know if I've seen one film or television show set in medieval Europe where the use of colour and decoration is appropriate! It's a horror and it makes perfect stylistic sense for the visual vocabulary to be muted - I know this is an unreasonable complaint - but even poor people loved colour and decoration whenever they could get it, and the more garish the better. I'd like to see one film where it's just medieval technicolour madness and then I'll pipe down
