On Wednesday June 24th, PVD7 defendant Cameron Battle was assaulted and maced by Capitol Police at Rhode Island Superior Court. While on court recess, Cameron was speaking with his lawyer in the lobby and an officer came and told everybody in the lobby to move. The officer did not like the pace that Cameron was moving, so he decided to take him into custody and wrestle him to the ground. As more officers joined, they pepper sprayed and beat him.
Cameron has since been released, however he does not have his wallet, keys to his home, or his phone. Bail was originally set at $8000, but a bail bondsman posted $100 so he could be released. Now he owes the bail bondsman $200.
We are collecting donations to help Cameron pay back the bail bondsman and cover any ongoing court fees. Any extra money collected will go towards covering the court fees and other legal costs for the #PVD7.
