- This is a call to the Rhode Island community to pay respects, mourn, honor, and acknowledge our fallen Black Cis and Trans* Sisters who have lost their lives and freedom at the hands of the Police State. A vigil for the lives that are too often forgotten or pushed aside. The names who do not get chants, the faces who do not get to be transformed into posters, the people who are not chosen for Million Marches. -

This event is not a march. It is a collective gathering to acknowledge lives lost and to speak out against Police State violence. It is a time for us to gather together as a community to mourn together and begin to heal together. Because of this the event is innately political. Honoring the lives that Society would rather leave invisible and speaking against the systems of oppression that would rather keep us silent and complacent (or dead in the streets). But, perhaps the biggest threat to Societal Order will be the act of us coming together as a community to care for one another. Communities of color banding together and caring for each other has always been terrifying to The State and status quo. -

I saw this last night and I haven’t been able to sleep since. These Ferguson Protesters put their lives on the front lines for us, Black People. They saw the beast in its full unadulterated and ferocious form…and they did not budge! With no weapon, shield or training they fought for us… We must support our warriors like our lives depend on it….because they do! What do you do when you look through the peephole and see a badge?

Remember: You do not have to let the police in the house unless they have a warrant — or probable cause. If you’re having a party, turn off the music, ask your guests to chill, and ask that anyone who’s too intoxicated carry on in another room.

Go outside to speak with the cops. Close the door behind you. Although some scary precedents are being set these days, police cannot enter your home without a warrant or probable cause. By closing the door, you’re cutting off a visual — or olfactory — line to potential probable cause.

Be polite. Ask why they are there. “Good evening, Officer. What can I help you with?”

Where possible, assure them you will take care of the problem. If the police ask to enter, inform them, “I do not consent to any searches.” If a police officer gives you an order and you are confused about your position, ask, “Do I have to comply?” If they continue with questioning, tell them you’ll need to call your lawyer and that you will not answer any questions.

Ask, “Am I free to leave?” This is especially handy if, say, a group of you’d been too bawdy on the patio and an officer stops by. If he/she is getting a bit hot under the collar, politely ask, “Am I being detained?” or “Am I free to leave?” If the cop has no reason to hold you, quickly, quietly, and politely retreat inside.

World’s Worst Cop Admits to Quotas, Falsifying Charges, & Extorting the Poor

A disturbing yet incredibly revealing video was uploaded to YouTube yesterday which shows an alleged Kennewick police officer admit to a slew of misdeeds.

“You better wipe that smile off your face brother, or I’ll show ya,” says the officer.

“Now, let me tell you what the difference between being a smart guy and a dumbass is. You sit there with that shit-eating grin on your face, let me see some id!” says the tyrant officer.

The young man then replies as he’s going to show the officer his ID, “It’s cool I got a clean record.”

That’s when the officer becomes brutally honest about how he can abuse his power to ruin innocent lives.

The officer replies, “Yeah, but you know what? I’m the guy that can make that record look dirty.”

This cop’s shocking confession explains everything that is wrong with the police in America.

“Plain and simple, if you fuck with me, I’m going to break your leg before you get the chance to run. I’m being honest I don’t screw around,” the officer said.

Mohamed’s friend said in return, “I never said I was going to run.”

"I’m just giving you a heads up. Just trying to be officer friendly right now,” the officer said.

Faysal Mohamed, 17, sent Fox 9 the video recorded by his friend, which he also posted on his Twitter account. He said after playing basketball at the YMCA on Blaisdell Avenue in south Minneapolis with friends on March 18, police pulled over their car. The four were ordered out, put in hand cuffs, and they waited nearly 45 minutes as police searched their vehicle and did background checks.

“Can you tell me why I’m being arrested?” a friend asks in the video.

“Because I feel like arresting you,” the officer replied.

You fucking see what they do? Absolutely incompetent, rude, criminal behavior of cop shows us the American system of law enforcement. Do you think that if ain’t no killed, then everything is OK? - No. It is not. Such behavior of the police remain unpunished only in a police state. You want to live in such a state? - I do not think so … Social media help us fight tyranny, so let’s use this opportunity.

I’ve noticed a lack of awareness for black female victims of police, so I’ve made a list.

Tanesha Anderson (37) was slammed against the pavement by police officers. She was apparently disturbing the peace in the neighborhood.

Duanna Johnson (43) was tortured, then shot in the head by police officers. She was transgender.

Rekia Boyd (22) was shot in the head by a police officer after someone “threatened” said officer…with a cell phone.

Aiyana Stanley-Jones (7) was shot in the head while sleeping during a police raid. This was for a reality show, apparently.

Tarika Wilson (26) and her 14-month old son were shot by police moments after they broke into her house. A companion was suspected of dealing drugs.

Miriam Carey (34) was killed by police officers while trying to protect her daughter. It was apparently a traffic incident, and she wanted to protect the baby after confronting guns.

Tyisha Williams (19) was shot 27 times by cops, minutes after her family called 911, worried about her not waking up. She had a flat tire during an evening with her friends and was waiting in a locked car for help.

Kendra James (21) was shot while trying to flee from a police officer. She was wanted for failing to appear in court.

Shelley Frey (27) was shot in the neck during a police chase on suspect of shoplifting. The police officer feared for his safety because of the position he was in, even though he could’ve easily shot a tire instead.

Shereese Francis (30) was suffocated by police and then put into cardiac arrest. She was mentally ill.

Alesia Thomas (35) was beaten to death during a struggle with a police officer. She’d been arrested because her children were left outside a police station.

Darnesha Harris (17) was shot several times after crashing into three parked cars and a bystander (who suffered moderate injuries).

Mackala Ross (13) and her mom Delores Epps (53) were killed in a car by a speeding police officer with no siren.

Robin Taneisha Williams (21) was killed when a state trooper who was driving drunk crashed into her car.

Some of these women committed crimes, but none of them deserved to be killed. Please remember their names.

Cops are trained to exploit people’s ignorance and use it to their advantage - often times through violent means. But there are cases in which asserting one’s rights during encounters with law enforcement can work to de-escalate or prevent a situation entirely. Asserting our rights is a practice in power. This zine is meant to serve as a basic knowledge-base for legal information regarding law enforcement encounters and police activity. Although we acknowledge the limits of laws and rights as they are conceptualized, written, and enforced in the US, know-your-rights information can be used as a tool for people to defend themselves against police and other law enforcement. While we believe in employing a diversity of tactics - including using our rights - as a defense against police violence, we need to develop sharper tools than dull laws that police are trained to circumvent. Although, we can only figure out what those might be through collective struggle. Considering that police typically work beyond the law to conduct their regular duty, it is justified for people defending themselves, their community, and their neighborhood against police to go beyond the law when necessary.
