If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) dir. Barry Jenkins
Hi! Iâm a Build A Bear employee. I am also multiply disabled. I am autistic, have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and vasovagal nerve damage in my heart resulting in a tachycardia condition. I am capable of doing all major job functions, but rely heavily on my service dog to mitigate the symptoms of all these conditions.
My job preformance starting from my first week has consistently exceeded preformance goals. This is documented by my workshop manager, and on written notes from supervisors. When I asked to bring my service dog with me on specific days, I was told I could not because they were afraid of the liability presented by having a dog present somewhere that works directly with children. I offered a strategy that would place my dog out of reach behind a waist-high door that is employee access only, where my dog could still do medically necessary alerts to preempt my symptoms so I can take precautions that protect my health and safety. When explaining this to my district manager, including my strategy to avoid their (illegal) fears of liability, I was told this was an undue hardship on the company.
Build a Bear store 218 in Gainesville, Florida is refusing to accommodate my disability, is refusing to document the conversation we had regarding accommodations and is refusing to note in my employment record that I am disabled.
Corporate is putting themselves in a highly defensible position of denying me the proof this conversation happened. I was denied the ability to record the conversation on an audio recording device. I was denied a memo containing a summary of the conversation, or even a document stating this conversation occurred. I have been forbidden to discuss this with any Build A Bear employees, management, or direct supervisors of any capacity going forward.
I will be pursuing legal action but doing so may put me out of my job. Itâs important to me that I advocate for myself and others to defend my rights as a disabled person, and hopefully set a precedent going forward.
I donât know what this will look like, what it will cost, or how it will impact my life. Iâm very scared and need support in any way you can offer it either verbal, with advice, or with resources to assist me. Even signal boosting this would be very meaningful to me.
Please spread this far and wide if possible as I am unwilling to let corporate silence me on this matter.
If you would like to help me financially, which I would be grateful for, my paypal and Venmo will be posted below. All funds donated to me in response to this post will go to filling in for any lost wages resulting from this, and whatever legal fees I may accumulate. Iâm willing to post screen shots of receipts upon request for full transparency.

I donât have to be open to dating a man whoâs bisexual or whoâs experimented with men. I have nothing against men who do but I chose to not partake romantically with them bc itâs not comfortable for me. I donât have to make myself uncomfortable to appease the world thatâs just nut as shit.
Wait a minute⌠this⌠is valid! Itâs valid, thereâs no call for other people to follow suit, itâs a personal choice! Whoa!
You like stirring the pot on here
And Iâm here for witnessing your notes in shambles
Lmao ehâŚ.just say youâre biphobic and go. Itâs fine. Thereâs no real discourse here behind that.
Thatâs not what being biphobic is at all. People are allowed to have preferences. Would you also ask a gay person why they donât go for the opposite sex???
This isnât biphobia..
lmfao this isnât anything but her saying she doesnât want to be romantically involved with a man who would also be romantically involved with another man.
nowhere did she say she hates them or would judge anybody⌠she just said she wouldnât date a bisexual man⌠point blank periodâŚ
tumblr just loves to fuckin argue
Youâre right, NOBODY said she or anyone who chooses not to date bi people actively hate bi people.
The argument is that the *choice* not to date bi people is rooted in bi-phobia and the stigma attached to being bisexual.
Even if itâs not a conscious detestment, it is a learned attitude.
no colette⌠itâs rooted in people not wanting to date someone who is too different from them. let people do what they will. her saying she doesnât wanna date a bi man donât hurt no bisexual man..
Youâre being vapid in your thought process and Iâm tired of teaching for free. See my earlier posts and if you have any further questions feel free to ask/PayPal me.
youâre not teaching me anything maâam. nor do i believe youâre capable of educating any common tumblr user about how they would to go about their romantic relationships
if anything youâre forcing me to believe, in my heart, that iâm in the wrong for thinking that a woman not wanting to date a bisexual man is more so her âfear or hatred towards the whole sexual orientationâ
lmfao yeah, sure ms. colette, thatâs exactly what folks will pay to learn đđ
Why do you keep using my name? Do you like it or something?
The reason behind the preference to not date someone who is bisexual (despite being attracted to them in all other regards) is rooted in biphobia.
Just like people who refuse to not date black people as a âpreferenceââŚsure itâs a âpreferenceâ but where does it come from?
Name one good reason as to why you wouldnât want to date someone who is bisexual that isnât rooted in stigma. Go ahead.
because i donât wanna date someone whose sexual orientation falled under bisexual? why must my own views meet your standards?
op saying she donât wanna date a man who would date a man isnât harming anyone but you truthfully
But what is the reason why? Once again the same argument: you meet a lovely person who you are attracted to in every manner-but then find out they date people of other genders as well. Why is that a dealbreaker?
Reflect on that why
Biphobia & homophobia isnât just people screaming slurs
Sometimes itâs deeply internalized and is expressed in seemingly small sentiments
Like âI just donât date bisexual peopleâ
Donât be dense, itâs not cute at all. Please use your brain.
colette, iâmma leave you and yo wrong ass be.
cause by your statements and opinion, youâre saying everyone needs to like everyone no matter what baggage they have. no one should have a problem with each other and we all should date. letâs all be pansexual because you donât like it when straight people would rather not date a bisexual
Never said that, donât be mad at me because your argument is flawed and you donât have any point
shawty you had no point in the first place. just say you was bored and wanted to argue so we can leave this alone
Wasnât bored, made coherent valid points and all you produced was word vomit. You couldnât even adequately answer my question. You have nothing to contribute to this discussion besides being a âpick meâ ass boy defending op.
pick me?
colette, just because you yourself cannot grasp the simple fact that someone can choose not to want to date someone because of their life choices, doesnât mean iâm not making sense. youâre literally THE only party on that side of this argument. obviously only you understand because in your world people who wonât date someone whoâs bisexual apparently has some resentment towards them as a whole.
âLife choicesâ âbut Iâm not biphobicâ
Put your thinking cap on buddy
So answer this, letâs say a white girl says âI date people of any race EXCEPT black people. I have nothing against black people, I just wouldnât want to date oneâ
Do you perceive this sentiment as being racist, or just a preference?
YO this shit was wild
@lookitscolette something I donât get with their argument is how a person being bi affects who they are , and they canât because it doesnât, being bi isnât a personality trait it doesnât change who a person is, and they need to just say they are biphobic and kinda shallow ( wich is an actual personality trait wich could affect a relationship unlike being bi because what me and Jim the hot Starbucks barista do ainât got nothing to do with what I do with any one else that I Might be dating women or otherwise)
^EXACTLY.
TWO WEEK ANNIVERSARY OF ME GETTING MY FEELINGS HURT BY A MAN IN OVERALLS. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. IâVE NEVER BEEN SO HUMBLED.
LMFAOOOOOOO

Waking up feels like that the law and order noise sounds like
I just starting bawling my eyes out
Slavery was a choice though right?Â
My grandpa lives in clarksdale, Mississippi and HATES white people with a passion. I grew up listening to stories like this. His cousins had to flee to Chicago in the 60s for trying to fight a group of white landowners who wanted to hang them for trying to leave the land they worked on.
my goodness. MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!
shit like this is why i often need a break from white people. this shit wasnât done to us for our benefit. it was done for the benefit of white people. a benefit they still enjoy today while calling us âlazyâ and talking about how this was something we deserved. smfh.Â
