The first part of the updated stat cards is the concept of experience points. Anyone who has played really any combat game knows that experience points are the key to leveling up - and it is the same in this case. Each stat takes ten experience points to level up, with higher levels obviously equating to stronger related abilities. As we move forward in-game, each character’s statistics will become increasingly relevant to gameplay.

Experience points can be gained through personal plots and development, participation in group plots, in-character activities such as classes, regular monthly activity, or for certain one-time events.

There are two types of points given, although both contribute to the same end result of leveling up stats: admin-awarded and player-chosen. Admin-awarded points are experience points assigned to a specific statistic by the admins; player-chosen points are experience points that players can assign to any stat they want, by letting the admins know what stat they want applied to.

New players start off with the given stats and zero experience points, but will have the opportunity to gain as they go. Current players will be receiving updated stat cards within the next few days - please keep an eye on your inboxes!

Character power: The concept of touch has always given Brittany so much life. The feeling of a warm hug or strong hands holding hers, anything like that, really made her heart swell. It was one of the things she loved most about being on this Earth. It was something she not only loved, but she needed. Being alone was a painful experience for her, and that was her greatest fear - to be left alone.

But when she was able to touch someone else, it was a beautiful thing. She had what was called the ‘touch of knowledge’ - her power was to see into that person’s soul, no matter who it was. Even if it was a brush of shoulders, she suddenly had a clear image of who they were and what their desires involved. Oftentimes it was only a small image - maybe a little bit of information or just a minuscule fact about them, but it was still so much. Because it was always intimate knowledge that she wasn’t supposed to have about this person. Which made her feel happy inside; it was so special. It was a big power to hold, and it was honestly overwhelming at times, but Brittany wouldn’t change it for the world. 

Sometimes, however, it got her into trouble. While she loved knowing little things about people, it was tough when she knew the big things. Like someone’s secrets or their passions or the really intimate details of their life. These were things she had to hold with her forever, and it was hard. When she connects with someone’s painful memories, it hurts the most. When she can relate, she often closes in on herself, not knowing what to do. And she never forgets, so it often takes a decent amount of time for her to start to feel okay again. And while she doesn’t forget, it often gets muddled in her mind associating the secrets with the person, leaving her mind jumbled, bringing back that horrible loneliness once more. Which is why she’s determined to learn how to control - or at least somewhat control - these powers. 

Area of Study: She is majoring in performing arts with a concentration in dance, which is her greatest passion in life.

Course Load: She is interested in a moderate course load, as she gets overwhelmed easily and would rather put her everything into a few classes that she can really focus on rather than not be able to give her all to a heavy amount of classes. She is interested in the theater elective, so she can apply her dance skills to another field, giving her a more well-rounded education.

Dorm Style: As she loves to be connected to people, Brittany is rooming in the Bishop dormitory with a double suite with one roommate. 

Clubs/Sports/Extra-Curricular Activities: Craft Circle (as focusing on little projects often calms her down from the stresses of college life), Feminists Union (as she is passionate about women’s rights), LGBTQ+ Association (as she is bisexual and loves to meet others who are like her), Waldron Dance and Movement Society (so she can apply and practice what she is learning in her major). She is also on the Dance and Cheerleading teams. She understands that these are all time commitments; however, she doesn’t mind working on and doing things that she really loves or enjoys, especially when she is with her close friends whom she loves.

Bio:

Brittany had grown up in a loving family with two parents who wanted her to have the fullest life possible. Her mother was the light of her childhood, and her father (while he wasn’t her biological father) made her feel special and safe whenever he had to. While her father was a baseline human with no super abilities whatsoever, her mother had the power of telepathy. She always knew what Brittany and her father were thinking, feeling and wanting. Which could get on both of their nerves, sometimes, but it often led to the families advantage - the cliche that mother knows best was literal in their case.

Brittany hadn’t realized her powers until she was in middle school - the 6th grade. She had many friends throughout her life, and she was loved by peers and teachers alike - she was a great student; although not the sharpest tool in the shed, she made up for her lack of knowledge in heart. Which made her kind, caring and always loyal, no matter what.

After school one day, Peter (one of her best friends) grabbed her hand before saying goodbye. And that’s when she saw it - saw, well, everything. She already knew Peter fairly well, but suddenly she knew more about him than she ever had before. His father’s death. His mother’s chemotherapy. His babysitter’s sexual abuse. His- this had to stop. Why couldn’t this stop?

Since then, she felt frozen. Unable to communicate with Peter anymore because of what she knew. And soon, she started learning more and more about her other friends because of their touch. Touch was the trigger, which made Brittany feel a weight on her shoulders that was pulling her down, down to the Earth. She cried every night, and if it weren’t for her mother who knew exactly how she felt, she knew she would have ended up alone. And that thought hurt her more than anything.

For the rest of middle school, she was home-schooled. She knew she couldn’t face her friends or anyone else. She would often spend time in her room imagining up worlds and doodling them. She would listen to her favorite soundtracks and dance around her floor, dreaming of something greater.

Eventually, she began to come back out of her shell. She was determined to make high school worth it. She joined the cheerleading squad and found her love for dance. Not just a love - she was good at it. Fantastic, even. And it helped her self-esteem become greater than it ever was. She started filing away the touches she made with others in an attempt not to think about them too much. Once in a while, she would find someone who affected her more than others, but after a while she began to love her power. Her love for being close to people mixed with the knowledge of touch sort of went hand in hand, and she loved it.

While it was hard to explain her powers to her loved ones, she eventually found her place at Waldron University. She knew she would find others like her there. She would be surrounded by new people, new faces - while that scared her to think about, she knew it was time to grow up and move past her fears. If she didn’t, she had no idea where she would end up. Not to mention, she could pursue her passion and learn how to control her powers better. She was ready.

Writing Sample:

Your power or skill has just misfired. What happened? How do you character feel about it?

Brittany’s eyes turned into hearts as soon as she sat down across from Vivian. In a recent turn of events, Brittany has explored her love for not only boys, but girls - and she was so happy she did. This was her first date with her long-time crush, and she was determined to make it worthwhile for the both of them.

It’s been two years since she started high school, and she’s gotten much better at learning not to touch others unless she knew them and was able to confide in them. She needed them to know that getting close to Brittany was a risk, and if they didn’t trust her then it might not end well. After a certain period of time, touch is unavoidable.

But here she was, with Vivian, and the rest of the world seemed to be melting away.

“I’m so glad you said yes,” Brittany said, a dorky smile overcoming her pastel pink lips. “I’ve kind of had my eye on you for quite some time. Or, my eyes. Both of my eyes. Obviously.”

They were laughing, and smiling, and Brittany’s heart grew bigger as the moments went on. And suddenly, time stopped.

Vivian reached out to hold Brittany’s hand, and it was too late. Brittany’s vision became blurred and all she could see was Vivian - as a child, as a teenager, where she is now. Her feelings, her loves, her heartbreaks.

And it was so much stronger than usual. At this point in her life, it was easier than ever to file things away in the back of her head, but now, with this - with Vivian - she knew she wouldn’t be able to forget. Her own heart broke as Brittany immediately began shaking her head as she ripped her hand from Vivian’s, her breath stuttering and harsh.

“Brittany? Are you okay?” It was obvious that Vivian was confused, and at this point Brittany was crying. It was all too much, and they barely knew each other - she couldn’t do this.

“I’m sorry. I - I’m so - I have to go. I'm sorry."
