Finish up with some Legends
Last year this section was the meat of the marathon, but things are certainly much different this year, only 3 titles in this category. Â For a refresher, games Iâve dubbed confirmed are currently set for a release next year and are also ones that Iâm planning to pick up.

When, oh when, will we see these
Thereâs a big name in todayâs set that many are hoping to see soon. Â The others are more recent announcements to series I canât wait to get more of.

Keeping the hopes high
Starting up with some games that Iâm hoping to see sooner, rather than later (or not at all). Â Thereâs one that still might be a ways off and a pair of Falcom titles Iâd love to add to my building collection.

Time to get your moneyâs worth
Today is the one and only day for remakes and remasters. Â Double dose of Disney infused Square-Enix, a blast from the past, and a rather unexpected revival.

Didnât see that coming did ya
Last day for the honorable mentions. Â Plenty of sequels here to big hits, but thereâs also quite a surprise showing at the bottom.

Beware of pun below
Continuing with the Honorable mentions Iâve got a bunch of fan favorite titles today. Â A little calm, a little goofy, and a little punchy(?). Â Letâs keep this ball rollinâ.

Honor where it is due
The next few posts will contain games Iâve dubbed âHonorable Mentionsâ.  These are mostly big name releases that donât pique my interests currently, but are worth mentioning for their own merits whether as new entries in a storied franchise or an upcoming game that deserves some hype.

Some Honorable Re-mentions
This second half of the Repeat Offenders contains mostly Honorable Mentions from last yearâs list. Â Now that these will be out of the way, everything past here will be new content.

Itâs Back!
If you were following this spot last year you caught a rather lengthy countdown full to the brim with exciting title releases from this past year. Â As you can already probably imagine, Iâm back at it for the 2017 releases! Â But first, letâs take a look back at last yearâs set of games. Â Of the 37 (!) I featured here (31 of which had planned for release this year), 28 saw a release in 2016. Â That means 4 of the 6 unconfirmed titles wound up making it, boy was I happy (well with 3 of them at least *glares at Aksys*).
This year thereâs 32 games on the list, broken down into 5 categories.  Like last yearâs games everything on here, sans the âhopefulsâ category, are currently looking at a release window for the coming year.  Iâll be starting things off with games dubbed ârepeat offendersâ, that is: games that were on last yearâs list but got bumped back for one reason or another.  I wonât spend too much time with these ones, but theyâll all have new trailers (where available) for your viewing pleasure.  Letâs get things rolling! (Dates reflect US releases)

10 Awesome Games You Probably Havenât Played (Or Heard Of) [Part 2]
Second half, again, Iâll be jumping right into it.
10 Awesome Games You Probably Havenât Played (Or Heard Of) [Part 1]
This one is for you guys who always see my (or someone else) mentioning obscure games that Iâve been having tons of fun with. Â Iâll keep this straight and to the point as well as keep out spoilers, as the goal here is to inspire you to play and explore them yourselves (we can always chata directly if you have further inquiries). Â Splitting this in two since there is a restriction on the number of videos that can be in a single post, and trailers are a nice way to hype up the experience.
Final Salt-asy
Letâs just get this out of the way: Iâm salty over the Final Fantasy VII remake.  I understand that from a business perspective re-hashing one of the most over-rated games in history is an easy cash grab and I hope it leads to similar projects in the future (with better games).  But it doesnât quell my dissatisfaction with their decision to bring back FF7 over so many other titles deserving a fresh coat of paint and tune-up.  Like say the games of Summer 2000 (or Fall-ish 1999 if you were in Japan).  Listening to Rocky Horrorâs âTime Warpâ may be appropriate here.
E3: Starved for Attention
Another E3 has come and gone. Â While some things change, mostly they just stay the same. Â Depending on which company you are, this can be a good or bad thing. Â If you are expecting me to be unbiased, then clearly you have not been paying attention or you are new to the blog, in which case: hello to you.

E3 2016: The Calm After the Storm
Weâve reached that time of year again, the wonderful âpreview of whatâs to comeâ show that is the Electronic Entertainment Expo (A.K.A. E3). Â Starting next week (first conference is on Sunday), developers will showcase all the goodies we can eagerly anticipate in the months that follow. Â While itâs hard to believe an E3 would not have any new things to show off, I wouldnât go expecting as insane a list of titles like there was last year.

World of Entitlement
An interesting bit of news arose this week relating to Blizzardâs behemoth of an MMO, World of Warcraft.  Though instead of being about the current live version, it seems that Blizzard has force closed a private run server that was hosting a âvanillaâ or classic build of the game.  Now in an intelligent world, that would be the end of it, as Blizzard has every right to to put an end to, what basically boils down to, theft of their product.  Iâm not going to get into the details of the legality, as Iâd bore myself writing about it just as much as you would be bored reading it.  Instead letâs take a look at the backlash from the âfanâ (used lightly) base.
Go to any site with an article on this subject and chances are they have a comments section, take a peak. Â Even for internet comments, it almost feels like thereâs extra amounts of stupid congregating to this happening. Â First and foremost, this is Blizzardâs game and they can do whatever the hell they want to it, just as players have the choice to stop paying at anytime. Â At no point are you forced to continuing playing. Â You know what I did when the Cataclysm changes hit and I found them terrible, I left the game and havenât been back since. Â There, statement made.
Instead of being reasonable human beings, players are now trying to justify private servers by baseless facts that Blizzard is ignoring them and not giving them what they want. Â Hereâs a hint, if Blizzard found it reasonable to pull off financially and it was going to be profitable they would have done it by now. Â Blizzard is a rather large business now and unlike some they arenât as shy when it comes to taking risks and experimenting. Â Thus we can logically conclude that the ratio of cost to erect and maintain such a server versus the return by interested players is not as large as these people think.
A lot of gamers need to get off their high horse and come back down to reality. Â As an individual, Blizzard or any other company owes you nothing. Â They make games the way they like to and if you like it you play it, if you donât like it you donât play it. Â Itâs a simple concept, but so many players canât seem to grasp it. Â Everyone is so hung on the idea that everything should bow to them and that they are entitled to this, that, and the other thing. Â This is not something that is just relative to the world of Warcraft, but the world as a whole.
So to all you faceless internet commentors who think youâre hot shit, hereâs a reality check: no one cares about your opinion when you sound like a whiny brat. Â I mean here I am, some nobody calling you out on your idiocy, imagine what more respectable sources think.

Adventures in Game Design
Between being a little burnt out from the mass of entries I dropped in December and the hunt for income becoming more stressful, I wound up taking a short break from tumblr. Â My computer also committed seppuku at one point more recently, but thatâs another story. Â As you can venture by the title though, none of that is what Iâll be talking about.
Due to a recent turn of events, Iâll be putting Black Out on a pseudo-back burner in terms of creation focus, but thatâs because a new project has sprung up! Â A friend of mine came to me with his design, which is super detailed and pretty close to complete. Â Iâm still working through all the story, but thatâs primarily due to my programmer instinct being more drawn to the technical details. Â Which actually seems kind of weird, given how big of an RPG guy I am.
In our first big meeting (such as it was) it felt good to have another person to talk game design once again. Â Of course weâre a bit of opposites in focus, he being more aesthetically focused and myself more technical, but these are just two sides of the same coin for designing a game. Â Plus, we have a good deal of overlap, so it works out for bouncing ideas and such. Â Most of our discussion boiled down to can this or that be done, which is actually a bit of a change from previous group efforts Iâve worked on where I also designed a good deal of those gamesâ structure and elements. Â A change of pace is good sometimes though.
Though his humble self may say it is âourâ game now that he has shared it with me, it is very much his vision and I want to respect that and stick as closely to it as I can. Â Thatâs not to say I wonât use my technical knowledge and experience to convince him where things could change for the better, as weâve already talked about a number of those.
I donât want to disclose any details just yet, but I will say it will draw heavy inspiration from classic RPG designs like the SNES Final Fantasies. Â Weâll splash in plenty of modern design elements, so itâs retro with a twist. Â Iâll have to get him in here at some point to talk more about it.
