A boy who lost his mum when he was 12, probably the only person, the only safe space he had back home, having to deal with a shitty brother and a strict dad with no empathy. Being sidelined all his life explains why he is a giver, why, deep down, he believes that the only way he is deserving of someone's love and attention is when he sacrifices things for them.

So, it isn't surprising that when Shane asked him to consider playing for Ottawa, he didn't bat an eyelash and agreed point blank. It was his love for Shane, 100%, but it also felt like it was his fear, mainly his fear of losing someone he loves if he doesn't conform, that further solidified his decision.

This is hands down one of my favourite moments of Shane and Ilya.

Despite resisting the idea of being together with Shane a few seconds ago, Ilya doesn't hesitate to be his most vulnerable self in front of the same man.
