john rod memes made me catch up with part 9. god damn, an entire part where no one has combat-ready stands and people throw hands instead is fucking crazy. Araki just wrote new Hokuto no Ken and called it Jojo. Paco vs Ningbo was the most exciting fight in years and it's two guys beating the shit out of each other with their hands, and every once in a while their disgusting Stands add a status effect to the other dude.
He's found a hack to avoid the editorial vetoing process and is just making any manga he wants and calling it Jojo part whatever. Super super fun read, a lot more interesting than how Part 8 was around this time.
It's so good. It's genuinely the most fun angle you could do after Part 8's "Oops! All Situational Combat Robots!" Stand design. It provides the right amount of grunge that the whole premise of the Part so far kinda needs to work.
Additionally, I think it's really something interesting that the only explicitly "classic" Stand design belongs to Howler / Eclipse Eight, who has been pointed out to almost be a more classically-Joestar-esque antagonist to reflect Jodio's... well, Dio-like tendencies. It's a lovely bit of subtlety.

An AU where an entire cabin + their camp counselor disappears after the first camping trip of Camp Ebottâs summer session. Everybody would be found 2 months later with a lot of friends in tow.
brother the fucking Krakoa event unlocks data pages, with the titles being written in Krakoan and everything, it's just a direct continuation of the art philosophy of the era. It's almost positioned to be able to be read as a little official crossover around 2023. How is it so peak.
I keep being shocked this game came out a few months after the era ended. The season letter in the main menu is a fucking love confession, someone in the office whose job was reading current early 2020s comics to figure out some character docs fell in love and evangelized the team on it. They're as sad it's over as I am. The Fantastic Four letter was just a long way of saying "wow making 4 characters in one season was a challenge."
The omega fumble Marvel editorial landed by ending this fucking era for a movie that's now been delayed until like what, after 2027?, might be the single biggest wasted opportunity in the modern industry.
It's not even like I don't understand the ~20 #1s issues they released since sell like water, because that's what #1s do, and it's not like I thought they were gonna stay in an island away from teams and the regular population for more than 5 years, because I didn't. That'd be stupid.
but holy shit the footprint this latest attempt has had on the industry and fandom is so fucking miniscule. The money's in but there's so little happening, the places they're in are so forgettable, the new characters are struggling to get people into them with the same ease that someone like Rasputin IV did, or how there's a lot more Synch and Doug fans now that got little to no place to go, or the complete lack of a reaction to a myriad of other moments in the last 5 years where shit just went back to being well regarded and good.
Instead everyone I know who was super excited for Krakoa era stuff is reading maybe a couple of the new books just in case they get good and most people who didn't like the era aren't super interested in this new one either, because it keeps not being about anything in particular. We're back to X-Men being that franchise that has some great old comics with one or two self-contained current runs that are good for a single character.
Marvel rivals is really good is what I'm saying, check out those lore pages for the mutants, they have some stuff going on.
also please do not bother replying with "here's why it sucked actually" or "here are the reasons why I hate it and why it's morally repugnant to like it", I do not care what you have to say and you do not care about what I have to say, it's been 6 years since the thing started and we've had this talk once a week, be so for real lmao
it's fun to get a notification for this one a year later, now that i just don't read x-men anymore and their latest attempt at winning people over is "the school is in their heads now!", with a third line-wide relaunch and brand new #1s already planned for december. house of ideas.
the new krakoa beach rivals map rules, go look at it.
as someone who kinda fell off Rivals, I still have to admire the sheer zeal of their lore/art/ui department
every season it's banger after banger of weird lore and deep cuts. There's still a few kinks to iron out but it's kind of shocking how much of a shit they give to the ostensible background stuff (rather than uh. balance. or gameplay.)
deltarune discourse is so strange sometimes because you'll be talking about literal text from the game and then 5 people will materialize and talk about their now-7-year-strong theories that have been constantly updated for so long, they just act like that's the text. Nearly entirely fan-created characters that have little to no basis on how their "real" versions have shown up in the story itself show up in conversation with the same weight and recognition as the main characters. Like how do you even talk to someone about the same story if their version of reading it involves taking every 3 words and arranging it until it's its own thing, that fuckass cat doesn't even have a tail or a name man lol

what the hell. what the hell man
hi I'm posting art for the first time in 100000 years:
Introducing... Kamen Rider Ozymans!
(and yes this is a kitbash Zi-O rider)
Wander! Wayward! Wonder!
With the power of the Mystek Beetles, Ozyman wanders the desolate wastes and alien lands of the far-off year 3045 in search of ancient mysteries... and to protect innocents from the wrath of the fearsome Treasure Raiders!
Parts kitbashed from:
- Sin Specter (Helmet)
- Dread (Chest, lower body armaments)
- OOO Tajador (Gauntlets)
- Majade (Cool robe thingy)
- Build (recolored undersuit)
Honestly, I know Iâm probably thinking too much about this, but HDG and Mechsplo stuff just make me like⊠sad?
Theyâre both depictions of oppressive, imperialist/fascist empires that *win*. But at least in them winning, the transfem characters donât have to fight anymore.
They just feel like declarations of surrender, a bone-deep exhaustion and a wish to stop fighting.
And fuck, man, it makes me depressed.
I know the want to stop fighting. God, I know it. But Iâve lived as long as I have because I kept fighting, and because Iâm gonna keep fighting. Iâm not gonna give up to myself, Iâm not gonna give up to my oppressors, even if maybe it would even feel good.
Idk. They just ring to me of abuse and imperialism, and while by no means should those things not be allowed to be depicted, (and to be clear even if I dislike the writing I still think folks are well in their lane to write it and enjoy it, Iâm just tryna think philosophy here I guess) I am put off by the likeâŠ
People *want* to be made into florets. They *want* to be made into hounds. The media of HDG encourages this, and while I donât know as much about WARHOUNDâs actual text, I donât think it discourages it per se. So, with my perspective, that just reads as a lot of people, a lot of my community, desperately wishing they could give up.
And the reason it reads to me as giving up rather than simply not *having* to fight, or *winning*
Is because the Affini always win. The Empire in WARHOUND wins. The antagonists, the empire, they *win*.
Iâm not going to let that happen. Iâm not going to stop fighting. Not until we win. Not until all my sisters win. Every one of us, across the world, fucking wins. Iâm not going to stop fighting.
Iâm not a floret. Iâm not a hound. Iâm a fucking fighter. And I swear to you, we will win. We will win one day.
I think Iâd just like to see some more kink fantasies about that, maybe.
Idk.
The affini are fantasies made specifically FOR those who cannot care for themselves and fight for themselves everyday. Yeah, they're "imperialist" I guess, but they chiefly help people, their spaceships are paradise, they take care of us and help us be happy. And most of all; they love unconditionally. The fantasy of the care being thrust upon us is simply a way to illustrate their deep and enthusiastic want to take care of and love us. We are shown not to be a burden to them when they fight so determinedly to keep us no matter what we say or do.
Look, Iâm not trying to pick on you or nothing, youâre just the first HDG person to reblog with with a comment.
âYeah, theyâre âimperialistâ I guess.â
They just *are*. Textually they are. Even if you think theyâre benevolent, itâs a conquering empire that wipes out cultures and civilizations.
Plus, like. Enlightening the savages is a classic justification for empire. Showing florets what they are, that they could be happy? âCivilizingâ the people they conquer.
I donât mind if you think itâs hot, if you even want it, but you canât just brush off the fact that the Affini are monstrous. Theyâre just another empire to give up to, this one just drugs you so you donât realize how oppressed you are afterwards.
Plus? Itâs a pretty fucking conditional love. They love you if youâre a floret. If they loved you unconditionally, they wouldnât need to change you. They wouldnât need to drug you and brainwash you. Again, thatâs hot! Fuck, I love kidnapping, I love intox! My problem isnât the kink, my problem is the full-chested refusal to acknowledge that itâs *still bad*. The insistence that no, no, itâs good this time because they love me, thatâs why theyâre drugging me.
Maybe Iâm too deep in the weeds on this. I know itâs not that deep. But still, I just⊠I canât help but think about stuff like this. I worry that it might make people more vulnerable in real life to getting into bad situations, because they think this is just normal or good or love. I dunno.
And, as for fantasies âmade specifically for those who canât take care of themselves/canât fightâ: as Iâve said to some of the WARHOUND folks, there are other fantasies that do that! There are a thousand thousand other fantasies! So what is unique about HDG as compared to say, dollification, or a more personal mindbreak, or petplay, or anything else. And whatâs unique is the empire. Itâs the conquering force.
âWe are shown not to be a burden to them when they fight to keep us no matter what we say or do.â There are better, healthier ways to be shown you arenât a burden. Respecting boundaries can coexist with showing someone they are loved, and, I would argue, it is easier and more earnest a show of love to be able to do that while not forcing anything.
Thank you for responding, I do like seeing different points of view. Ultimately, if you like HDG, good for you. Itâs hot. But, Yknow, chew on your casual acceptance of empire, and on your willingness to fantasize about your boundaries being broken. And hey, if you come out of that thinking going ânah Iâm good, this is fantasy and I think itâs hot and funâ then fuck yeah.
â„ïž
If I may voice my opinion on that topic.
Yes, the setting is fucked to an extend.
Yet, if Iâd be given the choice to make the affini real, to make them conquer us in real life, like they are in the stories, I would not hesitate to do so.
Lemme explain.
Irl, Iâm a fighter. I fight very hard each day. Iâm severely disabled, trans and generally queer and will fight against those who try to silence me or my queer siblings. Anyone really.
HDG is an outlet for me. A place where I can stop fighting because I donât have to. Because the affini are benevolent, because they make me feel secure and loved and Iâm also being a floret irl. My Mistress is best described as an affini stuck in a terran body. We are long distance, but she still helped me so much, helps me heal from my trauma and helps me with my self care a lot.
If I could choose, I wouldnât fight anymore. But sadly I have.
And thatâs why I would make the affini real if given the choice. I could stop fighting because there wouldnât really be anything worth fighting anymore.
The world we live in is sinister and dystopian. I donât want to live in that world anymore, but alas I donât have a choice. I also believe we humans are fundamentally incapable of genuinely making this world a good place. Someone is always gonna want to take more from others, exploit others, be corrupt and all.
I would not surrender to any given alien empire whoâd come here and take over. But I would for the Affini because they would make me stop hurting. I donât wanna hurt anymore. And I do not care about them being imperialist. This would be waaaay better than what we have irl.
I wholeheartedly believe the affini being real would be best for all of mankind. They donât just love you as a floret, if you think that, youâre not very well informed about the whole setting.
So far, I have respected everyone who has come here.
âI also believe we humans are fundamentally incapable of genuinely making this world a good place.â
You are a Tar Pit. Humans are flawed as hell, yes.
We also got rid of smallpox. We send golden records into space on the hope that maybe, somebody will see them one day. We do disaster relief, there is evidence of human kindness since before Homo sapiens was a fuckinâ species.
Nothing and nobody will ever shake my belief that a better world is possible.
Thereâs a bunch more I could pick apart here, but really, it wonât do much.
But youâre right, I donât know about the setting enough to say. But, if they love you even if youâre not a floret, why are then conquering us and turning us into them unwillingly?
Examine yourself. Yes it hurts. Yes it would be good to stop hurting. Rolling over for the first empire that says itâll make you feel good, who cares about anybody else, ainât the way.
Yes we can do good in the world and have. No, I donât believe we can do what it takes to make this world genuinely good. HDG is a utopia. Ofc, a utopia is never gonna be real, but just a bit kinder world would be nice. Iâm personally trying to make this world a better place. Still, I donât believe that we are able to do make this all better on a species level. Thereâs way too much fascism, racism and all that shit going on.
The Affini take over our civilization because they are capable of fixing all we did and continue to do wrong.
They donât just think they are superior, they are.
In lore, about 70% of a sophont species is living independently in the Affini Compact.
Out of the 30% of Florets are mostly volunteers and those that are domesticated involuntarily are either unfit to be independent or are a danger to themselves or others.
They take over because they love us
Imagine you see a colony of stray cats, living their lives but they are scared and survive on their own. Youâd take them or get someone to take them to a vet to check them out for diseases and help get them a warm home with fresh food and water.
Youâd make sure they have a better life.
Thatâs the thing with the Affini. We are the cats in that scenario.
The whole point about the affini is that they arenât human.
We also elected hitler, did a holocaust and generally genocides, had many wars that killed many innocent people, developed nuclear weapons, are currently in the process of electing more and more right wing fascist around the world, make rich people richer, destroy our planet and still install more fossil fuel energy plants, teach harmful stereotypes, are capitalist and so on.
Yes there are good things in the world. There is hope, humans can be kind, but Iâm sick of this whole shit above.
I have a very dark view about our species. I believe it to be correct. Prove me wrong though.
I hope I didnât give you the expression that I disrespect you, I also hope I didnât offend you.
I tend to be very emotionally reactive. HDG is a huge comfort setting for me and I found your criticism to be unjustified.
First of all, you did not disrespect me. You have your opinions that I fuckin wholeheartedly disagree with, but you didnât disrespect me personally.
Secondly, good! Iâm glad you find comfort in it and I *mean* that. Itâs a fictional setting that, if you take it at face value, is nice. Yes. Iâm not trying to stop you from liking it.
My issue is this: you can just say you like it because you like how it makes you, personally, feel. Making political grandstanding about how no, this time the empire is actually good, is what rubs me wrong.
Because every empire says theyâre good. Every empire has propaganda. So HDG going âwhat if this time all the lies empires told about themselves were trueâ feels in poor taste to me.
And, the fact that so many people genuinely *want* that imperialism is worrisome to me. Even ifâ and thatâs a pretty massive ifâ everything about the empire was good. That the affini are 100% benevolent. *Empires are still bad.* Humans are not stray cats. The affini, with their VAST resources, could materially help, rather than conquer and drug and brainwash.
As for humans doing both bad and good: yes, I recognize that. However, historically, time and time again, when the chips were down, people came together and made a better world. Why would you choose to live in a hopeless world? Why choose to see only the bad?
I say this in hyperbole, I am not telling you to do this, nor do I think this is your philosophy. However. If you, or any person, truly believes that humanity is evil, destructive, hopeless, etc. why do you not kill yourself? Or better yet, do a mass shooting? Whereâs the hope in the world other than extinct humanity? How do you make a better world if you are fundamentally evil?
I refuse to not have hope. I refuse to have a dark view of our species, because time and time again, I have been vindicated. In a thousand small and large ways. And yes, we also do awful shit. But slowly, over thousands of years, we have managed to chip away at the amount of awful shit. Itâs less than it used to be. And it can be lesser still.
So in summary: If you like HDG, good! Genuinely! But do not tout it as an ideal society, because it isnât. Itâs not a utopia, itâs not even very good. Itâs propaganda. Empire is inherently bad, even with the best of intentions.
Agree to disagree. To me, the affini compact is a utopia, because it literally is. Read the axioms if you donât believe me. The point about the Affini being 100% benevolent is not negotiable, itâs a fact that comes from how they are written.
Thatâs why I would make them real if I could. Because they promise that what is extremely unrealistic. Maybe Iâll meet a genie once, who knows.
Iâm never gonna kill myself or others. I have my dark views of our people, but I am also rebellious in that regard that I spit in the face of my oppressors and despite all the shit, live my best live. Not the life the affini compact might give me, but the next best thing.
Do note that Iâm severely disabled, suffer from bpd and dpd and more, thatâs why Iâm currently quite a bit depressed.
I have hope, but the more shit happens in the world, the more I watch my back when Iâm with strangers and leave the house less. I only trust those I have near me.

Absolute Martian Manhunter Full Book Review
âWhy do we do the things we do?â
I made this blog a month before Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 came out. I was inspired by the Luke Cage issue of The Ultimates, and figured, oh, this isnât just gonna be an Ultimate Universe blog thatâs gonna slow down tremendously as soon as the line gets bad. You see, the Absolute line is also coming out, and itâs probably gonna be pretty fun! Iâll have enough to talk about with those as well.
Absolute Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman were all about 5, 6 issues in, and I was having a good time with them. They were all really competent, fresh comic books, filled with good art and interesting takes that could be expanded upon for these characters. But they were still the characters I knew, just slightly updated. I presumed, by that point, this is what the line was going to be like. Good comics after a hell of a long time of uninteresting DC outings.
Absolute Martian Manhunter was not that. When I opened issue #1, I was confronted with one of the most unique, interesting comic books Iâd read in years, that happened to have a name I recognized on the cover. It was nearly entirely original, only referentially connected to the old titles, and it hooked me like I havenât been hooked by anything in a long time.
I dedicated a lot of my time to reading this book over and over again, and finding meaningful, interesting things to say about each plot point and theme that I found in this story. The reviews for each issue have been the most popular ones Iâve put out for anything, and as a result, Iâm guessing this is the last time Iâm gonna be talking to a lot of you. Hello! Thank you for the attention so far! I talk about Batman too if youâre into that.
All this to say, after writing extensive, sometimes labyrinthine reviews for every issue for over a year, whatâs left to say about it now that itâs over? Part of me sorta wanted to do something funny and just say âPlease go talk to your loved onesâ as the full review, but that would suck for you and me. That being said, thatâs also gonna be the takeaway from this essay. If thatâs what you were here for, itâs been nice having you! Otherwise, letâs talk about what Iâm guessing will be the best comic DC Comics will put out in years.
This is going to be an overview of the entire book, a little more âABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER EXPLAINED!â than just my thoughts as usual, because I really want to talk about what it does, and to do that I need to talk about how it does it, what is it doing, and why do I think itâs doing it so well. You should not read this without reading Absolute Martian Manhunter to completion. So without further ado, hereâs me oversharing about my favorite book of last year, while every once in a while commenting on What I Think It Means. Â
She's being so big and brave.
