The more I am trying to help fundraisers reach a wide berth of people, the more I am realizing that tumblr is a very performative website. Posts which are detailing a fundraiser have very little interaction, as opposed to those that point out the injustice of it all and have a tone of anger. But anger is not sustainable...if you want us ( those who are actively monitoring the fundraisers ) to give you a cause to rally against, if that is the only thing what moves you to donate, then how long can this go on? What does it even say about how you view the lives of people who have been forced to fundraise? They are not tinder to keep stoking your fuel of righteousness.
Every fundraiser which I am personally monitoring seems to only crest when the tumblr community at large either feels that appropriate bit of "oh yeah look I am so cool for rallying behind the cause." Or if there is a tragedy, an unimaginable pain a person has been put through and thus can evoke enough empathy/sympathy in the masses....what is this? What can one even say to this?
Anyway I do not know if you will see this post or scroll by, but if you would be so kind to go through it, can you at least spread the word about these fundraisers?
Shahed Muhammad- a 21 year old student, a daughter, an elder sister who made herself sick in trying to raise funds for her siblings to evacuate. Please help her evacuate too
Siraj Abudayeh- a journalist in Gaza, who took 10 years of pain to build his house only for it to be bombed.please help him rebuild, it is his right and his resistance
Shaima and Muhammad- brother and sister of Wafaa, the siblings who helped Wafaa at her most vulnerable. Please help Wafaa help them in getting their children evacuate at least
Every fundraiser here has been vetted and is present on Hussein and Nabulsi's spreadsheet. Shahed is at 224, Siraj at 219 and Shaima/Muhammad at 260.
Purrr... Purrr... Purrr...
hey parents: there is literally no non-abusive reason a person would want the ability to read someone’s emails, track their location, and go through their calls and text messages without their knowledge or consent.
I want to address the person who tagged this “what if they’re missing??”
Google Trusted Contacts.
that’s it, that’s the answer.
what this does is allow you to set up a list of people who are able to request your location. when they do so, you have five minutes to either refuse or grant the request. if you don’t respond within five minutes, the request is automatically accepted, in case you’re hurt or otherwise unable to get to your phone. your trusted contacts can also see how recently you used your device.
in other words: if someone genuinely wants to know if you’re okay, they can check the app and see that you’ve used your phone five minutes ago, and that can be the end of it. if they want to be doubly sure, or it says you haven’t used your phone recently, they can request your location. if you want them to know where you are, or you can’t answer, they’ll have your exact location within five minutes. if you don’t want them to know where you are, you click deny, and they still see that you got the request and responded to it, meaning, again, they know you’re okay. this is safety with accountability: you can’t track someone’s location without their consent unless they fail to respond to the notification, and you can’t do it without them knowing about it.
if you want to track a friend or loved one for genuine safety reasons, set this up. it gives you all the access you need if your concern is actually for the other person’s well-being, rather than a desire for control. (it’s not out for iOS yet, but Google says that’s coming soon).
(also: don’t be the jackass that makes a rule that someone has to accept all your location requests because that makes you just as bad as the people who install tracking shit covertly.)
It’s not abusive in any way for a parent to want to know where their underage child is and who they’re talking to, and saying so is a foul misuse of the term “abuse”.
anyway like I said there is literally no non-abusive reason a person would want the ability to read someone’s emails, track their location, and go through their calls and text messages without their knowledge or consent
I’m glad you live in a world where adults don’t groom kids on the net, or by calling them or sending them text messages.
I live in this world:
a world where parents are an order of magnitude more dangerous to children than “adults grooming them on the internet”, and giving parents unchecked powers of surveillance is for that reason alone more likely to put kids at risk than to keep them safe.
I live in this world:
a world where the psychologically debilitating effects of surveillance are well-established and well-known, yet adults do everything in their power to invade young people’s privacy and then ask dumbass questions like “why are kids so anxious?” and come up with answers like “it’s probably because of selfies”
I live in this world:
a world where invasion of privacy is recognized as an integral part of emotional abuse, but parents still get away with it because “they’re just doing it to keep them safe uwu~”, despite the fact that this is the same line the goddamn NSA gives us and most of us don’t take that sack of lies from them.
tldr, I live in a world where you’re not just wrong, you’re promoting attitudes that are actively harmful and you need to sit down, shut up, and listen when people are trying to educate you about issues of justice and safety.
what I really like about this post as well is, again, the statement as a whole
“ like I said there is literally no non-abusive reason a person would want the ability to read someone’s emails, track their location, and go through their calls and text messages without their knowledge or consent ”
“ without their knowledge or consent ”
Once, as a teen, I made a friend in PlayStation, a boy, older than me, and we agreed to send each other face pics. My brother, upon hearing this, (because I commented it in conversation,) immidiately grew worried and asked if he could supervise the whole interaction. He told me the reasons he was worried. I said yes. He supervised, I talked with my friend, and nothing bad happened in either direction (as in the boy being creepy or me having conflict with my brother.)
Children and Teens are little humans beings. If it gets to the point where you feel you need to work through some danger signals, and you are able to talk to your children about it, then you should be able to gain their consent or otherwise communicate your concerns in an understandable way. If you cannot communicate with your child, then things began going wrong between the two of you well before the interaction.
Why would you want to check without their consent or knowledge? What do you gain from them being ignorant of it? Is the purpose to catch them in a lie? To surprise them with something they were unaware of being a problem? Why can’t they be protected while knowing when you check and why? Ultimately, the best is that they learn to protect themselves, and they cannot learn if they do not know what to look out for, especially if they are more focused on looking out for their own parent. Ideally, you would have had a conversation on internet safety and, when in doubt, they could come to you to consult something they are not sure how to interpret.
^ this also helps you model caution, boundaries, and trust.
Kids don’t want to be hurt. If you explain ‘hey I need to do this so you don’t get hurt, okay?’ they’ll say yes 99% of the time. Especially if you make it clear that you aren’t saying no, you’re just wanting to make sure that if it’s unsafe then there are safety measures being taken.
Like supervision or checking your kids dms for creepy messages or blocking someone.
You’re teaching them safety is important and good and maintaining safety is not to their detriment. You’re also teaching them they can trust you to keep them safe and keep their best interests at heart and that those things do not need to include nonconsensual invasions of privacy, violence, strict adherence to rules, or other controlling/abusive behaviors we justified see later on in violent relationships.
You’re teaching them critical thinking skills and to judge a situation’s safety for themselves; whether or not it’s good situation for them to be in. Learning it’s okay to ask for help and admit they don’t know everything.
And I feel like this is Really important: they learn what a healthy relationship with privacy looks like. Consent is so important. They learn when to recognize people are just taking advantage of it when they have an example of someone who is genuinely just taking care of them.

i love mcr because this is what the four albums were like

N.B.: These are all Palestinian fundraisers who have reached out to my inbox or my side-blog's inbox (@videogamepoc). These fundraisers are roughly listed in the chronlogical order in which I've received them. They have all been verified by other Palestinian accounts active on Tumblr. I am not vetting any myself, as I am not qualified. If you have a question of whether a fundraiser is vetted or would like to have one vetted, please ask another account that is able to do so. I’ll also be updating these as I get new asks.
