“ why are you looking at me like that? ” emilyyy

“Good,” he nodded once, too. “Then you’re both dismissed.” 

With the man now safely out of view, all Dean's anger returned at once, bubbling up in his chest from where he'd swallowed it begrudgingly. With one pointed look in Emily's direction, he stalked off in the opposite direction, shoving open the front doors with force. He really needed to hit something now.

He eyed her as she explained herself, before taking another glance at Dean. The man still looked angry, but considerably less so than before. Clearly, he’d realised he was being unreasonable. Bellamy, now impatient to get away and think, shrugged. “Fine. That’ll work. As long as it gets done. But I’m holding you responsible, Eve. And you’ll relieve her on the cells at dawn,” he nodded at Dean. “Everybody understood?”

Growing impatient himself, Bellamy was about to put the older male in his place when the blonde stepped in. He raised his eyebrows at her a little, wondering why she’d bothered to step in. Why she was involving herself in his orders. “Tucker,” he nodded to acknowledge her. “I thought you were doing a perimeter sweep.”

“Not anymore you’re not. We need you elsewhere now. Tensions will be high with this announcement, and I have important things to do. You can end your shift at dawn. Got it?”

Nothing could have stopped Dean from snapping back then. Not even his brother. “Oh, you have ‘important things' to do? Like organise all those people's tortures? ‘Cause you’re the big man in charge, right?” He questioned, voice dripping with sarcasm.

It was clear to Amy that Emily was suffering with disassociation or memory loss, and whilst she was no expert on how to recover awareness, she could at least provide some comfort until the professionals arrived. Considering how busy they’d been since the Capitol breakout, that could be some time yet. Taking a few steps away, Amy grabbed an old plastic chair and pulled it up bedside, hoping that a seated position would be less intimidating. 

Emily nodded at the woman’s remarks, lip trembling as fear gripped her heart. She couldn’t recall one moment from her life, gut feeling the only thing she had to work with. Of course she was terrified. The stranger continued to explain herself, their surroundings, yet Emily didn’t feel any calmer, because the more she spoke, the more lost she became. Absolutely none of it was familiar. Whilst a rational part of her understood she had to be safe, as she was clearly being looked after in a hospital, that was as far as her bargaining took her. A few tears escaped, Emily struggling to work out where to start. “Amy…” She frowned in thought, chest still heaving with shallow breaths. “I- I don’t know you. I don’t know that name. Is there anyone here that… that I’m close with? Anyone that’s n-not an acquaintance?”

Kol dropped his hands as she flinched, her words a clear sign of confusion, or even memory loss. Hopefully it would pass as quickly as it came, and it was the just the initial blur of waking up that caused her distress. “Emily, you’re in the hospital. You’re suffering from a gun shot wound, you need to avoid moving too much or you’ll cause yourself further damage.” Kol pulled up a chair and sat beside her, wondering how much she could recall. He didn’t want the burden of reminding her. “How much do you remember?” 

Emily? A sob escaped her, shaking her head in refusal, growing overwhelmed. “Who’s Emily? I’m not- I’m not Emily.” Hospital? Gun shot wound? He’d answered her questions, but none of it had sparked any memory. Except, perhaps, for the wound, because as she’d tried to sit up, she’d felt an unbearably sharp pain in her gut. Shaking hands felt over bandages, finally lifting the blanket to look down at her stomach, whimpering at the sight. Something had happened. With no recollection, his explanation was as good as any. Perhaps, then, there was some truth to the rest of what he’d said, too. “Nothing. I don’t remember any- anything,” she cried. “Please, please tell me — who am I?”

Kol knew it was Emily before he’d opened the door, considering he’d become accustomed to her heartbeat and scent, but his eyebrows still raised in surprise to see her standing there. “You were? You must be feeling better. Or worse.” He smirked, standing inside to invite her in. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
