Ryland Grace, the domesticated fox turned livestock guardian. For a while things might’ve been okay with Eva, until two of the guard dogs die. Then Grace doesn’t look so much like a friend. Or maybe he does, but now he looks like a liability too. A predator among the livestock. The poor shepherd didn’t want to be rid of the fox, but her duty as a guard dog was ultimately more important. It probably hurt to send him away, but it was simply what needed to be done. The livestock would know him as a tamed friend. No one would know about the cries of the fox, begging not to go.
