studying anatomy n iâm pretty much a huge mess but i guess tables with impt info & 3D diagrams from essential anatomy r what makes things easier to memorize đ¤Śđťââď¸
sometimes I spend way too much time trying to âbeautifyâ my notes with cute calligraphy n making sure that I write neatly... but honestly, sometimes the beautiful notes I see on tumblr doesnât help me with keeping the content in my head!!! itâs pretty but is it really realistic?
if your current study method doesnât work for u, take a step back and think about what really makes stuff stay in your head! Is it listening to audio recordings? going through the lecture recordings again? paying attention in tutorials? scribbling the content down multiple times? creating mindmaps that link stuff together? looking through summarized notes that seniors have made?
think about whatâs the most effective for you as an individual!
just doing some revision with my old high sch notes before the brain starts to rot :-)
Questions to Prepare for Med Interview
Keep in mind that the key is to have examples prepared to answer these questions! For the first med interview I did, I never thought beforehand about the examples that I would use and it ended with me being a nervous wreck throughout my entire interview and I did not get into that particular school T_T... It is also good to have 2-3 points prepared to answer it question; I believe the advice is 2mins per question! Think PEEL structure. Also, donât try to âfitâ your prepared answers into whatever questions the interviewers throw at u... it will seem very obvious that you prepared beforehand... Leadership, teamworking, communication and ability to handle stress are themes that are generally explored!
Why do you want to study medicine? Prepare 3 points; each with 2-4 sentences elaborating, rmb to include examples!
Can you tell us more about yourself? Give a brief intro, move on to elab about your academics, leadership, teamwork, hobbies (keep it short!)
What is one of your weaknesses? I know this sounds very stupid but u have to pick one weakness where its partially a strength... (google this)
What are your strengths? think of a few points and examples to prove your points... donât be shy!!
What do you want to achieve in medicine? 2-3 points
If you were to become a doctor, how would you wish your patients to describe you, and why? think about the qualities that would make you a good doctor
Why do you want to be a doctor, rather than enter another profession that is caring or intellectually challenging? This is kind of the why medicine and not nursing question!! tbh i think not many of us know what is the actual distinguishing factor between nursing and medicine since the lines are constantly blurring; there are nurses in very senior positions that can override the decisions of a junior doctor any day so itâs really important for you to âreferenceâ how other people would explain it. i know this sounds very hypocritical but it must be done!
Why do you believe you have the ability to undertake the study and work involved in becoming a doctor?
Why should we pick you rather than other, better-qualified candidates?
What branch of medicine do you think would interest you? Why?
What impressed you most about the doctors in your work experience? i think this question is too specific, itâll probably only pop up if you specifically state that you have work experience
What qualities do you most need to develop in yourself? this one you can talk about your weaknesses, but you must somehow show that youâre working on them
Tell us about a team situation you have experienced. What did you learn about yourself and about successful teamworking?
Are you a good leader? Are you a leader or a follower?
Think of a situation where communication skills have been important. How have you developed your communication skills?
Are you a compassionate person? this is very hard to answer... i think... but examples can include doing volunteering work, helping a friend out, etc.
The study of medicine requires considerable commitment. What can you tell us about you that shows us you have this commitment?
How do you cope with stress? itâll be good to think of 3-4points with examples
Should a doctor be honest at all times? Think about placebos and a situation where child abuse has taken place
A difficult decision you made?
Why do you want to study at XX university? look up the uniâs website to see if their course has any distinguishable details from the other unis! you can say xx country is closer to home, you have relatives there, you visited the place and really enjoyed the environment, etc.
What have you done to find out more about being a doctor? this is where your attachments and work experience comes in handy!
When did you get face to face professional feedback from a person in a senior position? Did you agree with this feedback? Would you have given the feedback in the same way?
Were you responsible for something that went wrong? What did you learn from this? examples~
Tell me about a time where you didnât meet you or someone elseâs expectations. What was the cause? What could you have done to fix things? What did you learn? choose an example where u can elab on
What would you do if you do not get into medicine? just say the truth haha but would be great if u would try again? many times during situations like that we often want to lie? but i wanna put it out there that honesty is very important esp if youâre going to be a doctor in the future! you can also remain âhonestâ by revealing the partial truth - ok iâm not really making sense -_-
What would you do if you were struggling with medicine next year? I think the key is to show that you wonât give up
What would you do if in a year you realise medicine wasnât for you? same as the above but show that youâve thought through the issue and heavily considered
How do you think you will have changed by the end of medicine?
Given 100,000 dollars to address a medical need. What would you spend it on? this was in one of âthe medical methodâ videos on youtube!
Name and describe a person who has contributed to the community. It would be nice to pick something with relevance to the healthcare industry XD
What do you understand about diversity in a community? Why is diversity important? this can be about racial diversity or possibly branched into feminism-related topics
Most important advancement in the medical field? research!!!
Significant medical stories in the media? pick one that youâre interested in
What do you understand about the âHippocratic Oathâ? wikipedia helps for this one
What are your views on Euthanasia? its good to present the general opinion for both sides and then conclude it using your personal views; this gives a more well-rounded answer
My sources for these questions: âSucceed in Your Medical School Interviewâ by Dr Christopher See; i strongly suggest you purchase this book for more in-depth information and examples on how the professionals answer these questions Google - I googled âxx medicine interviewâ and found a document on melbourne university interview questions - copied some of the questions over! My actual interview experiences x_x... i signed an agreement not to reveal any for a particular school but I actually found similar questions floating around google so... i did not actual reveal any of them ok!
