we do need to revisit the wording of "you can't have your cake and eat it too" because i don't think it clearly enough conveys that it's more that you can't simultaneously retain a cake and also get to consume it (which would render you cakeless). for years i was like But why not....it's my cake....?

the unabomber was pedantic about idiomatic phrases like "have your cake and eat it too" and rephrased it to "eat your cake and have it too" (which to be very fair makes sense). fast forward to when he starts writing manifestos. he uses the phrase word for word in his pedantic style and his brother (who has been keeping his eyes on the unabomber shit for obvious reasons) notices the phrase and is like "oh fuck that's my fucking brother no one else fucking says that" and calls in an FBI tip

I'd seen Talk Radio during the pandemic randomly, and that gave me a very good idea of a Daniel Molloy-esque, so that's where I took some feelings and little movements and machinations. But I didn't want to overly rely on that because it was also important to add some extra color from me.

There were certain other influences at the time, which really helped. What's interesting is that Eric and I both had a very similar influence for Old Molloy and Young Molloy: Lou Reed. I was Lou Reed in 1973 and he was Lou Reed in 2008 or so. I found this out from Eric when we were in New York. We were talking, and he was like, "A lot of people think it's this person, but a lot of my stuff is actually from Lou Reed." Actually, I had found a picture of Lou Reed when I came to New Orleans, and I went into the costume department and was like, "This is what I want to look like."

Ok to be clear, this whole time what Daniel Molloy thought happened was:

He hooked up with Louis in 1973

Then listened to him rant about his ex for 8 hours

After which Louis tried to kill him

He woke up in a second location and was like wow my craziest trip yet!

He didn't hear from Louis for 50 years

Until he gets an email like hey bb sorry about the murder attempt do u wanna come to Dubai? u can interview me again i probably won't kill you :)

And he's like yeah sure

And then he still spent the whole time bullying him
