ELLIE ROSETTE

“Pizza,” Simon responded automatically, nose wrinkling up in disgust at the thought. Everything seemed so unbearably unhealthy, and even though he’d been vamped up for quite some time now, old habits died hard. “Loaded Pulled Pork Cheese Fries? I think that’s the most American thing I’ve heard for months now.”

“Don’t knock it ‘til you try it,” Ellie grinned at the other, amusement etched onto her features as she observed his clear disdain for the food choices.  “The cheesy goodness, the bacon bits on top. Seriously, it doesn’t make your mouth water just thinking about it?” she asked the vampire, a playful tone lacing her voice as she took a step closer. “You’ve only got all of eternity, why not live a little?”

She had stepped out the back door of Hangman’s Tavern for a breath of fresh air. The day had been spent dancing, drinking, and playing games in celebration of Founder’s Day, and she needed a moment of quiet to decompress before returning to her friends.

The familiar scent of honeysuckles caused his heart to nearly miss a beat.  Ellie.  The mere thought of her awakened something in him that had been asleep for a very long time.  Shepard felt like gravity itself was pulling him towards her.  “Ellie, hey,” He greeted as he approached her, a smile spreading across his lips as he did a quick look up and down her body.  “Wow, you look incredible,” He pulled her into a hug, turning his head to lightly plant a kiss on her cheek.  “Have you checked out any of the rides yet?” He asked, reluctantly releasing his hold on her.

“You think so?” she asked, her smile mirroring his own as she did a quick spin before being pulled into his embrace. Her arms circled his neck quickly, resting them there for a second as he pecked her cheek. She had half a mind to brush her lips against his, but they were far too many people around and Ellie was already the talk of many conversations since her kiss with Arthur. She didn’t need ever more talk going around, but still felt a pang of regret as he dropped his hold. “Nope, not a single one. But, if you’re lucky I’ll let you kiss me at the top of the Ferris Wheel.” she teased, briefly entwining her fingers with his before dropping it once more. 

Needless to say, Frankie couldn’t remember the last time she pulled out her curling irons - not to mention even touching make up or a suitable dress. She was feeling a little out of place and spent at least twenty minutes pulling down her dress for fear that it would ride up her thighs… Yet also pull the dress up for fear that she would accidentally flash someone but she wanted to at least TRY look nice for the town’s event. and probably cared a little too much.

Eventually, she pushed herself out of the motel room and headed out to the Founder’s dance. “Okay…” She mumbled to herself, eyes darting around for a familiar face. Once she had found someone, she let out a breath and approached them, “You look nice.” She complimented, kindly.

“Me? Look at you!” Ellie flashed a genuine smile. “Come on, do a spin,” she told the brunette, twirling her finger in mock demonstration. It was true that Ellie got along with almost everyone in East End. There were a few people who rubbed her wrong, but for the most part, she loved the residents of her small town. And she liked Frankie better than most. She’d met the woman while having lunch at the Red Fox almost two years ago and they instantly hit it off. It was nice to have someone who didn’t realize the supernatural community was afoot, and instead lived an ordinary life. It made Ellie feel normal, which at times was exactly what she needed. She loved being a wolf, but sometimes it was nice to think about things aside from supernatural politics and power plays. “I’m glad you’re here. I can’t decide if I want to shop the booths, grab some cotton candy, or try to win that giant stuffed panda over there.”

“Twenty bucks says one of the wannabe victoria secret models trips over her own heels.” Clicking her tongue against the back of her teeth, Cassie threw another loose stone up at the stage, just barely missing one of the contestants. “This shits a fucking drag, where’s a dead body when you need one?”

“That’s just cruel,” Ellie laughed, snaking her arm through the other’s. “I’m surprised you’re even watching, honestly. I saw we ditch and grab a funnel cake. Or a drink.” It felt as though it had been forever since she and Cass had spent quality time together, and Ellie really missed her cousin. 

Nik, still isn’t sure what had possessed him to sign up for the pageant, it wasn’t like he knew anyone in it; at least he hoped he didn’t know anyone, but here he was, helping organise gowns, shoes and hair spray. Was it too late to fake an illness, or to call Ryan, and tell him he was sorry about before, and if he could find another spot for their band, to book them in again? Something told him yes. He groaned, as he was ordered to get the girls, ready for their first day and their first event. If it hadn’t been for the authoritative earpiece and clipboard he’d been in charge of he probably would have jumped the fence. “Okay, uh, excuse me, girls…” Or did he call them women? “They want you ready in five.” With that out of the way, Nik headed out to find a moment of peace in quiet, well at least until he heard someone peep up behind him. Great, now what?  

Ellie was thankful for the Founder’s Day event. The town needed something— anything, that granted the residents of East End a small break from the non-stop madness that had fallen over their town since the arrival of the Dragovic family. Not that they were responsible for every catastrophe that had occurred, but it all seemed to start with them. So, when the mayor announced the festival, she was ready, which is how she found herself walking down Main Street. How people had managed to throw together booths and games, and food on such short notice was beyond her, but seeing everyone come together warmed her heart a little. She was admiring the charmed jewelry at a traveler’s booth when Nik caught her eye. She quickly handed the woman a few dollars for a mood ring and made her way over to the man. “Hey, you.” she smiled, sliding the ring onto her finger. “You’re looking pretty official. What’ve they roped you into?” 

She had been watching the people of this town - observing how they interacted with one another with a flask lightly held with her fingers. She watched as a woman got a little too drunk and tripped in her heels, a child running so fast that their mother had to rush through the crowd to catch up with them and two aggressive fellows shout so much in one another’s faces that one of their fists collided with the other’s nose. Violetta scoffed, the corners of her lips twitching upwards in amusement before bringing her drink up to her lips again.

Her eyes locked with a stranger’s then and she rose her brows at them, “Don’t look at me - I wasn’t meddling in that at all.” 

Ellie threw herself between the two wolves, pushing them back as hard as she could before either one landed another blow. “There are children around, you drunken idiots.” She yelled over the string of obscenities they were shouting back and forth. “Don’t make me call Sylas and Ines.” The threat was enough to give them pause and Ellie took the opportunity to spin her packmate around and give him a nudge in the opposite direction, eyes landing on the redhead as she turned back around. “But something tells me you just might be the meddlesome type,” a small laugh fell from her lips. “But, no, Jake’s always getting into something with someone. It’s the one thing you can count on around here,” she said of the Crescent wolf and then, “Are you new here? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”

He was trying to figure out why her spending time with Arthur bothered him so much.  Was it the fact that belonged to the same faction that murdered Elaine or was it because he was jealous of the other man being in the receiving end of her affections.  Of course he would never admit being jealous, not willing to risk sabotaging their supposed no strings attached relationship with his negative feelings.  “Please don’t worry about me.  If I have a concussion I’ve already done the worst thing which is fall asleep.  In a few days you won’t be able to tell anything happened.  Or so I hope,” Shepard scoffed.  After regaining consciousness a few hours after the fight, the thought of calling one of his pack mates for assistance was completely out of the question.  He didn’t want anyone knowing he had been beaten.  Instead, he drove straight home from the bar with the full intention of hiding from everyone until he healed.  “Ellie,” Shepard sighed, “If he ever hurt you, I don’t think I could live with myself.  I’d have to kill him and honestly, I don’t think I’m strong enough.” His voice cracked when he admitted how powerless he was.  He wanted so badly to tell her to go, that he did not want to be seen in such a pathetic state, but he didn’t have the heart to drive her away.  “I wasn’t going to fight him until he mentioned you. Then I had to fuckin’ hit him,” Shepard explained, nodding slowly when she asked if he started it.  “I thought that if I punched him hard enough, he would leave you alone.”

Despite the nature of their relationship, Ellie still cared deeply for the wolf before her. Her friendship with Arthur suddenly feeling like a personal betrayal to Shepard. It would be a lie if she said she thought her pack would be understanding, but she’d never stopped to consider his feelings separate from the pack’s. “How can I not worry about you, you idiot?” Her voice held no malice, soft as she examined the damage his body had been inflicted once more. He was right. There really wasn’t a point in going to the hospital now. With their accelerated healing and high body temperatures, there wasn’t much the staff would be able to do for him. Carefully, she climbed higher onto the rock, setting next to the man’s head and easily brushing through his dark hair. She doubted anything she did right now would make him feel better, especially telling him she didn’t think Arthur would ever hurt her. It would come across as though she were defending him. Even she could hear it. Instead, she lowered her head and softly kissed him on the forehead. “It won’t come to that, Shep. I won’t let it.” She was surprised to hear that Arthur had mentioned her, the thought fueling her anger a little more. “Do you think we could get you back to the house if I helped? I can clean you up a little. Wash the blood off.” 

He genuinely smiled back at her which was always easy to do in her company it seemed. Rhys felt like he could really just be himself around her. Anything that had happened in the past just slips through his mind and all he can think about is Ellie. It wasn’t romantic but it was love; she was his best friend of course he loved her. “Otter Box, that sounds like something you made up just now,” Rhys plopped back down on the bed as she returned with two glasses, taking it gratefully from her hand and lifting it to his lips to take the first sip. Letting the alcohol warm his stomach with a slight wince at the hard taste. “You can paint my nails if you like, I don’t got any nail polish but I have acrylic paint, that’s basically the same thing, aint it?” he flashed her another toothy grin as he took a second sip from his glass. “Should’ve invited, Shepard. Or would that be weird?” Rhys wasn’t sure if Shep and Ellie had a thing going on, but there were some days where he could smell them on each other and well he could put two and two together. “Sure wish them fish creatures would go back to where they came from – same with the Dragovic’s, I’m sure if we dug deep enough we could push ‘em back into hell.”

There weren’t many things Ellie kept from her best friend, but the nature of her relationship with Shepard had been one of them. She hadn’t lied. She’d simply just never brought it up. But, tonight she didn’t feel like dodging the question or changing the subject. “I don’t think it’d be weird. God, I don’t know. Everything’s gotten so complicated lately.” She rested her head against the door frame, bringing the tumbler to her lips. Her relationship with Shep was meant to be no-strings-attached, easy and carefree, but more and more it seemed to drift until her feelings were muddled completely. Throw Arthur into the mix, and Ellie was a downright mess. “But, yeah. Why are they even here?” she spoke of the naiads once more. “Just to wreak havoc and disappear back into the ocean. I haven’t seen them since the storm cleared. And as for the Dragovics, hell would be too kind for majority of them. They aren’t all bad though.” she confided.

Shepard was starting to come to terms with the ass kicking he received last night.  It was hard not to make excuses for his poor performance in the fight, only surviving a handful of punches to the face from Arthur before getting knocked out cold; yet Shepard summed his loss up to the fact that he was unable to shift. Unfortunately, the bar was crowded and he could not risk the potential exposure. ‘Did I even land a hit?’  He wracked his brain trying to recall the fight, but everything from the night before was such a blur.  He had missed work today, having called Valerie early and telling her to handle things today without giving an explanation as to why he was not showing up.  Too ashamed to admit defeat.

He had wandered out into the woods behind his house hours ago, with full intention of clearing his mind.  Shepard had attempted to shift, but the pain emanating from his bruised, swollen face and his hangover was too much and he gave up.  He went to sit on a large flat rock before collapsing onto his back and staring up at the full moon in the sky.  Shepard had just started to dissociate when he heard footsteps approaching, turning his head to look in the direction of the sound.  He could not help but smile when Ellie walked over to him, in spite of learning about her and Arthur.  Until his mind caught up with the primal surge of happiness when Ellie appeared to remind him of why he got into it with Arthur.

“I got in a fight with that Dragovic motherfucker that you’re apparently friends with,” he replied dryly, looking up at her.  The left side of his face was darkened with bruises, his left eye completely swollen shut.  When she asked if he was okay Shepard sat up, the blood rushing away from his head causing him to wince in pain.  “I’m fine,” Shepard answered with a sigh, before cutting straight to what was on his mind, “Out of all the fucking people in this town, why him?”

To say Ellie was shocked was an understatement. How had no one bothered to tell her!? “Ar-Arthur?” She questioned as if it could be anyone else, not wanting to believe the two of them had come to blows. Self-consciously she wrapped her arms around her body as if hugging herself, before she quickly tucked her golden locks behind her ears, settling down beside him on the rock. She’d known she couldn’t hide her growing friendship with the vampire. More and more, they were seen around town together. She knew their last encounter, the dance, was sure to spread like wildfire through the grapevine, their kiss practically begging for whispers and juicy gossip. A kiss that she still hadn’t yet fully processed herself. “You are not fine,” she said adamantly, resting a hand softly on his leg. “You should have gone straight to the hospital.” She was preparing to go on a long rant about taking better care of himself, not getting into fights, when his next words caught her off guard. She wracked her brain for an answer that would make sense but came up short. “I don’t... I don’t know. He’s not like the other Dragovics, not like Luke.” Though she wasn’t sure about that anymore as she looked over the various marks and bruises on Shepard’s body. Anger whipped around inside of her, but she’d confront Arthur later. “Wait, was this... this stupid fight about me!?” She raised her voice slightly, realization dawning on her. “Did you start this?”

There were few people in the Crescent pack that Rhys could get along with. There were few people anywhere that he got along with as well as he got along with Ellie. She’d been there since the beginning when Rhys joined the pack, they’ve been friends ever since. Catching the pillow she threw at him in his hand, “See, this is why you’re my favourite,” he threw the pillow back at her. Dialing the pizza place number, hopefully at this point they’d be back up and running after the storm. He ordered a meat lovers pizza because well they were wolves after all, and after flashing his guest an incredulous look, he ordered a box of ‘those cinnamon sticks’ just for good measure, “I don’t like those Iphone’s, I’m always breaking the damn screens,” hanging the phone up back on the wall, “Well, you’re in the mood to party,” Rhys teased, “do you want to do each others hair and paint our nails tonight while we’re at it?”

“I better be,” she grumbled playfully, sitting up on the bed and folding her legs criss-cross style. Ellie wasn’t only thankful Rhys had given her a place to crash after the storm, but that she got to spend quality time with him. It was sometimes hard to between her job at the hospital and his as a Marshal, and it had been entirely too long since they just hung out. “It’s called an Otter Box,” she quipped back, holding own phone up for a demonstration. “It protects the screen. But suit yourself, grandpa.” She slid off the bed and padded into the kitchen, pulling two tumblers from the cabinet before turning to grab the whiskey. “Yes, yes, I am,” she called back to the room as she poured the amber liquid. “It beats just sitting here, doesn’t it? And if I thought you wouldn’t fuck up my nails, I’d be all for it. I can paint yours though. A pretty neon pink, maybe?” She teased as she walked back into the room. She leaned against the doorway holding the glass out for the other. “Besides, with all the craziness going on, I need a night of fun. To not worry about freaky fish creatures or the Dragovics.” Though it seemed she couldn’t shake on particular Dragovic from her thoughts lately. 

Her shift at the hospital had just ended and instead of going home, Ellie found herself heading to Shepard’s. Walking under the moon, she felt the warm breeze over her skin. Nights like this were her favorite for letting the wolf inside run free and she was set on convincing Shep to change with her. Except, she found his home empty. On a hunch alone, she followed a path leading away from his house. It was one she knew well as it lead to a small clearing in the woods only a short distance out. She’d learned that sometimes, when he wanted to alone, she could find him there. With how off-kilter everything in her life had felt lately, she wanted to be next to him. By the person who made her feel safest. 

As she made her way into the clearing, Ellie realized she’d been right as she saw his figure on the other side. She quickly made her way over to him, noticing the bruising covering his face first. “What happened!?” she exclaimed, dropping down beside him. She started to reach out to him but wasn’t sure where to touch that wouldn’t cause additional pain. “Are you okay?”
