Rewatching Civil War and hearing Nat say these words to Steve literally made me choke in tears. Not only that, but what she says before this,

"Just because it's the path of less resistance, doesn't mean it's the wrong path."

She believed this even if it meant sacrificing her own life. To her, dying had always been/was another path of making sure that the most important people in her life

I love this show (?)

I don’t question my love for it, but the... why?

I was really excited for season 2. 

‘was’ because I’ve already watched it and I need to form some sort of legitimate opinion and why not post a long rant and excuse it as a review?

For starters, season 2 was great. To put it in the usual pretentious commentary: the colors were great, the costumes, the acting, the camera shots, the music... It was great. 

But why WHY why

Why the last five(ish) minutes? What was the purpose of it?

(and honestly, as I type/attempt to rationalize this, I think this is why I’m having any issues at all with the season... for the most part)

I read a review earlier today (before I finished watching the show) basically saying that both the show and Midge are similar in the way they don’t know what to be. Or are still deciding. Like, is she going to do the whole independent women comic thing or is she still wanting a housewife from the upper west side?And I sort of get where it’s coming from, but I also feel like whoever wrote that review hadn’t fully watched the season. Or fully analyzed it? Is that rude? Am I throwing shade at someone I’m not even going to bother linking? Because it’s not that they’re wrong, but I just think they didn’t get it.

I think the show overall (somewhat) makes it a point to (eventually) demonstrate that Midge is serious. She even says it. Like twice. 

(And spoiler warning) 

But like why the hell does she have to go back running to beeping punk ass whiny little beep Joel Maisel?!

I don’t know if saying this is taking it to an extreme, but I think it defeats the whole purpose of this alleged ‘journey’ our ‘heroine’ has had this season. Any character development Midge and, for God’s sake, even Joel may have had comes crumbling down the moment she “admits” she’s going to be forever alone (join the club) but wants one more night with someone who loves her. 

So she goes to Joel’s place 

Excuse me? Why?

Freaking Benjamin (played in the utmost superb manner by Zachary Levi)  loves you... or idk he wants to marry you and like, as a couple, you decided to make it a whole ordeal with your dad and your mom so why the BEEP are you going back to Joel? 

Joel,

the guy who cheated on her (but forgives anyway)

the guy who makes such a big deal over the fact he doesn’t want to be with her because she’s too real about her life on stage (and he doesn’t want to be a joke pathetic) 

the guy who had literally just established (and had several times before) he was done with Midge, was going to move on and, like, start a nightclub (?) idk

the guy who dates a different chicks every night but still has the audacity to feel entitled to get hammered and whine like a beep over Midge. 

Um, no no honey, tu la jodiste. Okay, he’s not all bad but I really don’t think she needs to get back together with him. And focusing so much on his BS of a subplot and his family didn’t really add anything to the show. On the contrary, it took away from the potential of better scenes with better characters and character development. 

Because, was it just me or did it feel like you were basically anxiously waiting for another scene with Ben? 

I don’t think they showed us enough about Ben (period) and then want us to assume he’s obviously not the greatest guy for her. And I don’t mean he’s a great guy because of his status and because Rose says so. 

I genuinely feel like they have/had/idk so much potential to be an amazing TV show couple. 

I don’t know you guys. Why introduce him and not take full advantage him but make us go through so many minutes of Joel’s annoying ass mother?

I’m going to stop here (for now).
