Brown eyes go wide, and all thoughts of practicing letters (truly that’s all she had been trying to do) vanished from her mind. “Witches and warlocks?” she repeated softly. “Sir, would..would a familiar have reason to know about runes?” The question was hesitant, her expression pleading. She knew so precious little about her kind, any tidbit she might be able to gather was worth risking the ire of the man beside her.
“Yes, I’m sure you’re familiar with witches and warlocks,” he answered. There were plenty in the city not including himself as well. The question caused him to pause, looking her over. It was easy enough to guess what type of creature she was now and he smiled softly, always having a bit of a soft spot for familiar’s. “Familiar’s are innately magical in their own way. I’m not sure if there would be a reason but it might just be natural for one to know runes.” His own familiar had spent years reading over his shoulder out of interest. “Do you think there’s a reason why you’ve written them?” the elder asked.
