Where the subtitle of my blog comes from:

Out of all the music and poetry in the world, this 1992 piece from an iconic Spanish duo, is the one I identify with Antonio the most. 

It’s written from the perspective of a person that no matter the hardships (that affect him from the outside or, mostly, from the inside), the bad luck, the state of the world, or the heartbreak, knows he will overcome it all and keep resisting, keep living on and bend but not break. Against all odds and expectations, and whether it’s worth it or not. 

Which, more than anything, sums up the history of this country. In fact, it almost seems to me to have been written for it. Specially this part that seems to reference a certain XXth century event.

Ah yes, he thought this to another dream, but wouldn’t it be great to realize that it wasn’t a dream but reality? Hearing that rusty Latin made him smile a little more as he held Spain close, beginning to pet his head when he heard that barely audible word of Papa. The Roman did not speak, letting the love he had for Antonio speak for itself by holding and comforting and kissing the country’s head. “Meus puer… look at me.” He said soflty.

Antonio sunk in into Rome’s embrace. The bundle of emotion in his chest felt way too real. It was, certainly, the weirdest false awakening he’s ever had. Well, one of the weirdest. 

When Rome asked him to, he obediently lifted his head, giving the old man a sheepish smile. Gosh, he looked so real...

Pulling him up and close, he hoped that perhaps a hug would get him remembering. So, he squeezed him in a tight bear hug and kissed him cheek, pulling away yet still holding him as he looked into his face. You could see the pride in his eyes, and yet there was also a bit of sadness. Why was he sad? Because he had missed this boy man and felt a bit guilty for leaving him alone.

Antonio giggled, the beer bottle barely managing to keep itself in his hold. His cheeks were rosy and eyes glittery. He tilted his head up from where it was slumped on Gil’s shoulder and gave his friend a giant, mischievous grin.
