One of the things about Alice in the Country of Hearts is that Alice wishes for love/unconditional love and that's part of why she ends up in wonderland in the first place. Also her Sad Experiences(TM) (dead sister, her boyfriend sucked, father pays no attention to her)

So like... Alex loving Olivia but denying herself the possibility of telling her, until she can't see Liv anymore and doesn't have the opportunity to tell her. Making her appreciate what she had and face the possibility of rejection by telling Olivia she loves her, when she gets back. Because yeah, Liv MIGHT reject her, but *what if she doesn't?*
