Bird- Cries often in front of others, has no control over his tear ducts. He doesn’t particularly like showing weakness to anyone he distrusts. Comfortable crying in front of Fate, Destiny, and Attendance.

Fate- Usually unable to manifest tears. She doesn’t cry much at all. Bird is the only one who ever sees her cry.

Destiny- Hates crying in front of people. Doesn’t like feeling vulnerable unless it is with her partner Attendance.

Attendance- Doesn’t cry in front of anyone, even Destiny, she doesn’t want anyone worrying about her.

Bird- awful boundary setter, sometimes a pushover. Has trouble with confrontation.

Fate- She will often keep her true needs to herself until she bottles them up for too long

Destiny- has a healthy way of setting boundaries but sometimes can allow others to take advantage of her.

Attendance- good at setting boundaries but pushes herself to go above and beyond to meet people’s standards.

This is my personal take on a “mermaid.” Although they are more half coral, shell and sea anemone than fish.

Many characters come to me when thinking about the relationship of my body to the earth. Coral reefs are so beautiful and colorful, I wanted to make a character who inhabited both human and coral characteristics.

Even so, I am not entirely sure how this character came to be covered in coral, but feel that this character came from my desire to stay somewhere so long I become apart of the natural ecosystem, become covered in it, even if it eats away at my human form. I hope this is expressed here.

The symbol near the figure is one I referenced from medieval design, I felt connected to it and wanted to associate it with “new life” or a “coming of age.” I feel like this character is possibly going through a transition from human to coral.

Thinking a lot about uzuren lately. I imagine that kyojuro is reluctant to share his feelings for tengen, thus spending many nights, hot faced. In this panel, kyojuro is snuggled into a wisteria protected outpost. He reminisces on all of the exchanges they’ve had begins to wonder if tomorrow will be his last day, without a confession.
