Straight up. Time for some real talk.
If you think a suppressor renders a gun Hollywood movie quiet and/or that suppressors are not already heavily regulated and are easy to obtain legally, you really have no idea what youâre talking about.
Please sit down. You look absolutely foolish.
I waited 11 fucking months for mine.
E
L
E
V
E
N
MONTHS
Same for my first one. And then nine months for my second. Thatâs a whole ass baby worth of waiting and jumping through federal government hoops.
Thatâs:
FBI background checks
Fingerprints submitted to the federal government
Passport photos submitted to the federal government
Registration to the federal government
ATF approval
A whole bunch of money up front
$200 non-refundable tax stamp fee on top of cost and sales tax of the actual suppressor
Not being able to take my own property home until big brother says⌠Nearly a year later
Still having to submit a 4473 and pass a NICS federal background check when my suppressor was approved and tax stamp was finally mailed back to my licensed dealer EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY PASSED A FUCKING FBI BACKGROUND CHECK AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ALREADY APPROVED EVERYTHING AFTER MONTHS UPON MONTHS OF WAITING FOR THEM TO DO THEIR JOB
For every time a suppressor is purchased.
Needs to be more regulated my fucking dick.
The ATF itself actually recommends you do the build-a-bear method because they have a different office process those requests. Like the ATF even acknowledges that itâs quicker to just build the damned thing yourself.
One of these days Iâm gonna get the tools and the balls to build my own Form 1 can.
My local gun range advertises âconjugal visitsâ with your suppressor so you can actually use it at their range while you wait for your paperwork as it languishes through the Federal bureaucracy. Â
What a great range it must be.
Thatâs actually pretty common for gun range/store combo type places that also do NFA stuff.
I was not fortunate enough to have that.
Oh no the poor little gun fetishists are having a tantrum that itâs so hard to get a fucking SUPPRESSOR FOR A GODDAMN FUCKING LONG GUN. Poor babies are so oppressed. Thoughts and prayers.
What the fuck is this? No one should have a suppressor. Period.
My 2019 Conventions
Because itâs a FAQ, here are the conventions Iâm confirmed to appear at this year:
DATE: July 25-28
EVENT: Supercon Raleigh
LOCATION: Raleigh, NC
DATE: Sept 13-15
EVENT: Rose City Comic Con
LOCATION: Portland, OR
DATE: Sept 20-22
EVENT:Â Cincinnati Comic Expo
LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH
Thatâs it for 2019. Thereâs a nonzero chance Iâll add one or two, but most of the potential cons for me to visit this year happened to fall on dates when I had existing commitments.
O.M.G. I do not know why Wil Wheaton has decided to come to my little podunk townâs comic convention. And I have never gone to a comic convention. But I am going to meet Wil Freaking Wheaton!
Donât shortchange yourselves, Millenials. Youâre not done yet. You may kill the student loan industry yet, god willing and the creek donât rise.
I always thought that Googleâs informal motto being âdonât be evilâ was about as comforting as a coworker having a sign at his cubicle reminding him not to snap and murder everyone in the building.Â
As it turns out, watching the coworker remove the sign is even more ominous.
Meanwhile, Facebook has hired a key architect of the Patriot Act as their lawyer.

Tumblr when they were removed by Apple from the App Store:
Tumblr âworking as quickly as possible to resolve the issueâ:
Tumblr on December 18th looking for 60% of their users:
Underrated post
Itâs funny that Apple pulled Tumblr from the app store, when Facebook had an app that was getting root access to childrenâs phones and when Apple told them to stop, they used a backdoor method to keep doing it and then Apple caught them and Facebook is STILL in the app store.Â

1990s Tom Sawyer Island Map
I went to Disneyland maybe four times when I was a kid, and I always felt like I never got to spend as much time on Tom Sawyer Island as I wanted to. It felt like this magical, mysterious place that was full of secrets to discover.
Yes - this. Exactly this. I have fond memories of running around the WDW Tom Sawyer Island from my first or second trip as a kid. I met another girl in the spooky dark caves, and we ran around the island adventuring and taking over the fort and chasing and just having fun. It felt like forever and no time at all, and I donât think we even exchanged names. Just fellow adventurers crossing paths on a hot November afternoon.
Tom Sawyer Island is one of those odd liminal spaces that can only be accessed when youâre a kid - the magic of it is just not the same once youâre older. But as a kid? Magic and adventure around every corner - the island is yours to explore, and it is the most amazing and dizzying thing to try and remember.
This is such a beautiful story.
This is really true. Even when I was a little older and beginning to be jaded by Disney World, living in the Mouseâs shadow as I did, Tom Sawyer Island was always magical. As soon as you left the dock, you were truly in a magical world where your imagination could run wild. Honestly, as a child, it was the best part of the whole Disney experience for me. Better than any ride or show.
New Blog Title
Itâs a subtle change, see if you can spot it. I liked Joe. But itâs not funny anymore. Need to think of a new picture.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) took a shot Tuesday at former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultzâs chances of mounting a serious presidential campaign, the latest salvo in a budding feud between the progressive senator and her potential 2020 rival. âWe have a billionaire who says he wants to jump into the race and the first issue heâs raised is âno new taxes on billionaires.â Letâs see where that goes,â she replied derisively when TPM asked if she was worried Schultz could play a spoiler role in the 2020 presidential election.
Elizabeth Warren Mocks âBillionaireâ Howard Schultz
Time to start a serious and focused effort to boycott Starbucks.
(via wilwheaton)
I donât think Warren is our best choice right now, for a lot of reasons (though, if sheâs the nominee, Iâm voting for her), but Schultz is, best I can tell from everything heâs said in interviews about running, just a Republican who figures he canât run as one. If he actually runs, it will hopeful be a short lived campaign that burns out before the primaries are really underway. If he somehow mounts a serious campaign, it could be disastrously idiotic.

Free Audiobooks and Ebooks on OVERDRIVE.
Free Graphic Novels (DC, Marvel, Image, etc), Music, TV shows, and music on HOOPLA.
Free music that you can KEEP on FREEGAL
You are PAYING for all this with your tax money - USE THEM. Most likely systems will have all 3 or 2 out of 3, so if you arenât sure call your local libraryâs reference/information desk and how you can get set-up or started.
Hey, highkey from a library worker:Â
Overdrive has a new mobile app called LIBBY I find it easier to use. Itâs the same content as Overdrive just better for mobile. Overdrive and Libby both let you send items to your kindle as well. Â
Hoopla been clutch
I LOVE LIBBY You know what my favorite feature is? If I donât finish an audiobook and itâs on hold so I canât renew it or I forget to renew it⌠the next time I check it out IT STILL REMEMBERS MY PLACE FROM THE LAST TIME I CHECKED IT OUT. FUCKIN MAGIC
Well, I hope this new Libby app is good, because I gave up library audiobooks because the process of using Overdrive was so awful and I wonât go back. By all means, give it a try, especially if youâre short on funds.Â

This is really interesting. An historian who specializes in early 20th Century jazz (when this song was originally recorded) analyzes it **in the context of the time it was made** to explain what it means.
On the other hand, what any work of art âmeansâ is largely in the mind of the audience once it is released. While the artistâs original intent, to the extent that we can glean it, matters a bit, it doesnât matter much, at least in part because no one knows for sure what it was, and most people donât know at all. What matters now for anyone deciding whether they want to play or listen to that song is simply how it makes them or their audience feel. And to a modern audience, regardless of context, that song is creepy AF. Now, itâs entirely possible to like or love a song with problematic lyrics. It can even be OK to play it on the radio. But sometimes itâs also OK to drop a song you or your audience have issues with, regardless of what the original intent in context was.
