aaaa that’s so cool!!! i’m glad people actually want to read it because as much as people say “oh write for yourself write what you love” it’s always nice to have other people enjoy it too :)

i read gotham by gaslight a few weeks ago and Oh My Goodness

i was a weird autistic nine year old girl once upon a time and victorian society was my special interest?? odd as fuck 😭😭 and i wondered why i had no friends

anyway dc and batman are currently special interests of mine so when i read gotham by gaslight my brain almost imploded out of sheer excitement because it was such a good overlap like i am in the middle of that venn

but the Brainworms™ got to me and obviously i was like “ok how can i make this about superbat” and i started writing again 🥹

basically it’s a victorian gotham set fic where bruce is very much upper crust and then clark is just a reporter from metropolis and bruce has to deal with expectations placed on a man of his station from his business and from his family whilst juggling his feeling for that oddball reporter

im actually shit at summaries but that’s the best i can do without just explaining the plot

would anybody be interested in reading it?? im 4 chapters in out of the 10 i’ve planned and by the time i finish ch5 ill probably start uploading it because if i commit to an upload schedule i might start writing faster for Motivation Reasons

just wanted to put it out there and ask people!!! might motivated me a little more lol

i haven’t checked my writing acc for a while and went on it for the first time in a few months the other day and found lots and lots of comments i’d never read?? people have been SO nice and SO encouraging and it’s motivated me to start writing new and different things again

i have sort of left byler behind for a bit?? not permanently i promise it’s just the hyperfixation has changed for now but my interests are like one of those fancy spice racks where it spins round so byler will inevitably be back and i’ll start writing for them again for anybody interested

but anyway a massive thank you for the love 🥹🥹 it genuinely makes my week to know somebody likes what i write

i hinge a lot of my opinion on myself on my ability to do things well, and i love writing and it’s maybe the only thing i’ve ever been confident that i can do

knowing people agree with me makes me so happy <3

i have two byler wips that i confess im not currently working on 💔 sorry to the people who were wanting to read them i promise ill finish them one day but right now im not feeling the urge

want to finish them before the end of the year tho (i know i know long time frame my bad)

in the middle of writing a superbat fic tho!!! i’ve only ever posted byler so idk how many people who follow me are into superbat but im 4 chapters in out of 10 and ill probably start posting when ive written about five of them?? im in the middle of ch5 so that might start popping up soon

i also have the startings of a bloodymary one rattling around in my head somewhere because the Brainworms™ have gotten to me as well which i might start writing after i finish the current one because i’ve told myself im not allowed to start anything new until i finish it

Summary:

Mike Wheeler left Hawkins for college and never looked back. When he needs inspiration for his new novel, a friend prompts him to go home.

Will Byers is planning the school's stall in the Hawkins Holiday Festival, which showcases art from his students, amongst which is his old friend's little sister, Holly Wheeler.

i got a set of comments on my (incomplete) fic, complaining about how certain plot points hadn’t been resolved, saying i needed to add more drama (despite the fact that’s not the focal point of my primarily fluff fic) and calling it unrealistic, saying that my plot basically didn’t have enough conflict for their liking.

i think some readers need to remember that authors don’t write specifically for them. yeah, it’s nice when people enjoy the writing you make for them, but when they act like they’re entitled to a piece of writing catered directly to them, and then coming across as quite rude and unsatisfied in comment sections, it’s actually fairly disheartening.

what really got me about these comments was that the person had some valid points, some of which ARE resolved in the final chapters, but instead of phrasing it as something to think about or as a suggestion, they wrote it as a demand with an implication that my writing wasn’t good enough because it hasn’t met their expectations.

i’ve deleted the comments because they actually knocked my confidence a bit, but my point still stands.

fic writers put so much effort into creating content for fandoms, and if you’re not a fan of that content or you feel it’s lacking, its good to remember that these people are giving you free entertainment that they put a lot of care into. to make disparaging comments about something they clearly spent time on does nothing except discourage authors from putting out new content that some other people in the fandom might enjoy.
